  • Let's talk about the latest trendy wine: Portuguese Wines. Port is the most famous wine in Portugal BUT what else is there besides Port wines? The Portuguese wine market has grown like crazy in past decades, and there are a lot of exciting, very tasty and affordable wines coming out of Portugal.
I didn't know too much about Portugal to be honest so today we are going to learn about the region together, talk about the classification, native grapes like Touriga Nacional, and highlight a couple of the most famous and up and coming regions like the Douro Valley, Vinho Verde, Dao and Alentejo. We will learn how to buy Portuguese wines and find great deals.
    Cheers!

Bairrada is my favorite region. Many say it has the best terroir in Portugal. The Baga variety is Portugal's version of Nebbiolo. Very Burgundian.

That wine is a normal supermarket wine, not by far an example of a good portuguese wine :)

I had a Dão wine last year that was great. Very smooth and drank like a Pinot Noir. Cover Puqlia next.

do Tejo means from the Tejo. Tejo Is the region, the DOC and the River that ends at Lisbon. Also known as Tagus. Touriga Franca is the cab franc of portugal, not the merlot.

Portugal is like absolute wine paradise. I recommend you try some good quality Vinho verde for hot days (ex. quinta da Brejoeira), then try some good quality syrah from alentejo (ex. 100 reis) and then you have mind blowing wines from douro (Pintas from wine and sould or Legado from Sogrape). They are a bit more pricier but you will be blow away!

I have been saying this for years, Portuguese wines (non fortified) are probably the most underrated in the world. What fantastic price quality ratio too!
