Am I missing something? I was looking for the links to get the hardware items used in this tutorial but don't see any....
Just got my first EPROM burner a few months ago and this video is super helpful, I wasn't sure how to do the TSOP conversion until you explained it. Awesome!
Great job! Might try this myself at some point.
I don't really see what is wrong with selling flash carts as repro games (as long as it is listed as repro) because the original company is not profiting from this, only the people who have the real carts are.
Spot on, very important that it is labelled in a way that fraudsters can't screw over people saying it is genuine. That's just mean, right?
***** Thanks, it's nice to know that someone agrees.
I hope there's more of us out there, fighting for the little guy! :)
I ordered some unlabeled reproductions myself, I'm not losing sleep nor do I feel the need to label them. I'm not a reseller so I don't feel like my collection makes a difference for anyone. The Chinese factory did it not me ;D Aside from that I actually like repros better because they have new batteries, they lack infestations like bed bugs (which are carried in electronics), they aren't dirty, no baby teeth marks, and it's the same game. I guess people like their "authenticity". I'd rather pay people that are still producing the games than some reseller that's profiting off stuff they don't create and gouging the market.
Smash bros 64 - chinese repro 25 bucks, ebay 70 dollars.
Hi! Thanks for the video. I have one question: All i need is a flash memory like 29f032 and a TSOP40-DIP36 adapter? No decoding chips or something like that? just burn the 32mbit ROM on the memory, attach to adapter and put it to the cartridge?
have you got a written down step by step version of this guide?
I know that I heard it somewhere, but what is the music played on the background from the beginning?
Also I had a couple of questions. Did you cut the socket to size to fit the Tsop adapter? Also how do i know if im buying the right size sockets and pin headers?
Where did you find you TSOP-40 Microchip NOR Flash chips? I looked at mouser and a couple other sites and they are out of stock. Otherwise, this is very interesting and I'm going to build my own adapter. Thanks!
wooowwww man I just discovered your channel !!!!! I LOVE ALL this videos about old hardware and hacks !! so interesting !!!! I am subscribing right now !!!!! Good Job !!
has any problems with the funky region protection propped up with earthbound? also that link the the guide is now some sort of Japanese beauty tips blog.
Do you know where we can find just chips from old games like this? I want to do everything authentic though
+Deatonis Actually I picked up some AM29F040 chips, which I believe are DIP and should work in the Willem-to-TSOP adapter... I haven't tested this yet... but when I do I'll post a video. That way it avoids TSOP soldering, so it might be easier. I think I just picked the chips up off eBay. Sadly though the MaskROMs that were used in the games had a custom pinout and didn't match any standards of the day (or now even). So unless you have a game chip and a suitable PCB (they were different from game to game most of the time), you might be out of luck!
hi, on 12m56 timeline, patch game using ucon64 to remove ingame zone protection before burning protection (remove frequency protection, sram checks etc..)
so this might be a stupid question but can you Gameboy ROMS using the same method I was thinking of making a SNES pokemon game but not sure if I want to sacrifice my super Gameboy thanks
Please. Do I need to convert a rom to bin format?
How to write roms using flash memory? , I have a Tl866?
Nobody teach how to write since the begin.
Sorry for my english.
wait.... how can you re-flash it? can it be used like a flash?
Nice video, Just one question:
I have the GQ-4X willem and adapters, but I´m only able to write/verify, not erase.
Can you erase the flash chip with that adapter?
I really enjoy all of your videos. Very informative.
Running ZSNES within Parallels is a classy move all around I think. Cheers lol
Hi and thanks for the video, i have a question, Can I use a S29GL032A chip? these can be removed from internet broadband adapters and since I recycle a lot I have a few of these every now and then. please let me know, I already ordered the tsop to willem adapter and may be ordering a GQ-4X soon. thanks again!
Hey bro, how to convert the .smc file to .bin without using WSB since that program is more for the 27c801 than for the flash memory? How you did it?
Hi Shane. Thanks for the guide! Out of curiosity where do you find the parts required? A quick Google search didn't reveal much.
Thanks!
theres any tutorial with schematics of how to make cartridges from scratch using the tsop40?
Nice video! Surprised it doesn't have more views, I did one may years ago (if you search "super nintendo hacking" or "super nintendo cart hacking" I think it is like the second link/first video that comes up for some reason), and not nearly as informative. I think it was before the TSOP thing became en vogue (I was still using UV chips! I saw some tutorials with many many DIP chips that I could never get to work). To all the hackers out there you should invest in a nice programmer. I had a willem one and it took nearly three times to get the chips to write correctly. I finally had a bit more money after college and got a Batronix Batupo and the software is much better (with good english!). I didn't know about drag soldering (I went to art school, not engineering) the soldering looks a lot less intimdating than I imagined. Strangely I've never had any country/lockout issues, even if I removed the chips that weren't part of the ROM/SRAM.
Hello, I have a doubt, how you change the file .SMC to .BIN, to record the AM29F032.
When you write the rom to the tsop chip do you need to convert it to bin? or can you just program the smc file straight to the chip?
This is great stuff man! My only question is what website did you order the purple adapter chip from, aushpak was it?
I hope you have lots of luck with your venture.
Thanks! I hope we all win in the end though!
Can I use any donor cartridge to make another cartridge?
Nice video. I am going to get my SNES from the basement and play some donkey kong. :-)
***** Sadly my N64 died while playing DK64
Hey Shane, Do you have a Nintendo GameCube in any color?
It would be cool to program your own games with all these stuff or make repro's with it.
It would be really cool to be able to fully emulate those enhancement chips such as dps1,superfx or st018 chip and make games for it to fully benefit those chips.
And that was one of my motiviations for attempting to learn programming, but I really want to do a biology science based course. Didn't the SD2SNES come close to having full support for all games?
+Shane McRetro yes it dit.
I need to use that flash cart more! Need to get my SNES working, wait SFC working first :-)
+Shane McRetro how's yer class going? I'm curious about emulating the chips also. Very cool vid. As far as I know SD2SNES can only play games that had ONE chip so still not quite full support but I only have the SuperEverdive and Everdrive N8. Thanks for the vid and yer time.
basically you are changing the rom chip with a reprogrammable one right? how reliable is this kind of flash cart?
Hi Mate, thanks for the video very informative. Would this process work with the MiniPro TL866 programmer?
Okay, I have a serious question:
Can I do this SAME THING (EarthBound, but NTSC and hacked to have no DRM or whatever it's called this week) with an NTSC-J SimCity 2000?
Ah, okay.
Hey Shane, do you have any Game Boy Advance SP in any color?
Did you ever figure out how to fix the earthbound piracy block? If so, how?
Suggestion: Add a microcontroller and make it flash the EPROM from an SD or USB. Or better yet, let it emulate the EPROM and map it to a file on a SD card.
Where do you buy your flash ICs from?
Shane,
I have tried to reproduce your method and am having the hardest time getting the chip to id. I have a GQ-4x with version 6.26 and am using the same retrohacker.info adapter you used. It has id'd at times but most of the time it id's as "FFFF". Did you paste any special code to the device.txt file for it to ID all the time. I was able to dump and play the bin from my game emprom from my donor cart. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex
Hey Shane, what are your favorite games in your SNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System)?
Nice Video!
Anyway i dont know yet about how do I prepare the rom for the AM29F032B chips. I know for eproms M27c801 the snesROMUtil is required, but how about the AM29F032B ? Example a rom that is already 4mb and dont need to expand size or something
Do I need to convert it for .bin, right?
+Nihongames It was so long ago, I'll actually be revisiting the entire process in a new video shortly. I've got three more carts to make and should document the entire thing from beginning to end. I've ordered a new programmer too since my GQ-4X died... uggghhhh such an expensive hobby! :)
I remember that EarthBound didn't need to be expanded to fill the full 4mb (32mbit), as the game itself was only 3mb (24mbit). I did use "wsb-sfcr2.zip" (Looks to be snesROMutil) which I found in the folder with all my SNES stuff! I think that remove header might have been the only option I selected, but I'll address that in the new video once my programmer arrives :)
And yes, bin does seem to be the format of choice.
+Shane McRetro Thank you for reply
I'll be watching your new video for sure to see the entire process
Btw how about Sega Genesis repros? Have you done any of it?
+Nihongames Almost, my programmer (GQ-4X) died on me... so I've gone and picked up a Wellon VP-390 and it should be arriving in the next few days! :)
And it looks like TSOP won the vote on the latest video so I better get to it! :D
Well you've piqued my interested.
I ordered some 29F032 EEPROMs and TSOP40 adapters from buyICnow.
I now need to get the EPROM reader blow the dust off my soldering station.
Very nice job on this so far! I'm so glad that I found this video. (I gave up researching because there weren't many videos on this topic especially for snes) I actually wanted to write a rom for earthbound as well so I have a question for you. What would I need if I bought Mother 2 (The super famicom japan version because the cart looks really cool) I have a super famicom and I know it plays US games so would it be less work if I had the actual cart that earthbound would use and switch the US mask rom? Or would I need to start buying all these chips and adaptors?
EarthBound was there ever a pal release?
sabe de algum site que posso compra esse flashcard sou do brasil
You can get the PCB card from any of the cheap PCB manufacturers out of China usually, shipping takes a while but seems to be worth it for the price! 😊
I was wondering how hard is to load the ROM from a SD Card/USB Drive instead of a EEPROM.
That's what the SD2SNES is for :-) All the hard work is already done for us! :-D
Yes for earth bound though ;)
Do ta doo dooo..catchy..an fun video >
So very true :)
that is a really good helpful video and the NES NO MORE!!!
Hey Shane you know what? my Nintendo GameCube explode because it needs 110 Volts ONLY and a regulator too (in any brand) and I plug it inside the 220 Volts wall Socket by accident
subscribed!
Hope one day you'll put a guide or hard/software list online?!
Could you create a working copy of a game that is not produced anymore (obviously) and hardly anywhere to be got? For example FF3 (the japanese FF6)?
And then post the costs of the used up hardware?
Just so I can get an idea in what ranges of money I have to think in order to recreate such a thing myself? (Tools included)
can this be done for N64?
Can you do with NES and GBA?
Such a nice channel great job i'm subscribe :)
And Shane my Nintendo GameCube is color Gray and my GameCube game is Pokemon Coliseum. What is your games in your Nintendo GameCube?
Any way to burn a Super FX game? (Star Fox 2 to be exact)
OhNoNotMyPenis Thanks
Subscribed, this is good stuff.
Nyaruko YES more!
How many save from different games one sram can hold?
Only one, tested :P
If input another game, erase the past save.
Raph Furendo Yesbody thea how to white since the beginning
if I want to burn a translated secret of mana 2 , is it right to take japanese seiken densetsu3 rom, apply the translation with lunarIPS, and then convert the sfc file to BIN before burning? (copy /b som2.sfc som2.bin) ? or do you take the translated SFC and burn this to the tsop?
+phreeze83 Entirely up to you, either way should work. You can always do a comparison of the ROMs using some sort of hex editor, I use Hex Fiend on the Mac... what's that really popular one on Windows... HxD?
I guess the classic hexedit ^^
+phreeze83 Did you have any luck? :)
first try not. Not sure if I'm gonna waste any more time on those
So it's like to use a bad game and make it a newer one?
good job
I'm planning to do this with the Mother 1 / Earthbound Zero / Earthbound Beginnings remake by HS since he's remaking with the Earthbound graphics.
Ohhooo, got any more info? Where do I look? :-D
forum.starmen.net/forum/Community/PKHack/Mother-Remake/page/97#post2189565
Here. I'm NintenEBLegends
worlds easier to jist tin the pads and use a hot air reflow gun for those smd chips
mmmm just thinking about creating using a microcontroller a flashcart with autoflash from sd...well maybe you will do that somethime... maybe
Can this work with those CD quality music hacks?
Yes decoding chips or something
no links?
"Chip's a little bit crooked ,don't know how that happened"
Nobody knows how that is happening to all of us
Pro tip: you can watch movies at KaldroStream. I've been using them for watching lots of of movies these days.
@Antonio Steven yea, been watching on Kaldrostream for years myself :)
@Antonio Steven yea, I've been watching on kaldroStream for years myself :D
You can remove the copy protection with uconn64 ;)
Hi dear friend, i trying make that, but not have success. My problem is , the earthbound smc , when converted generated 4 files, 4 x 1mb, and i dont know how i can join this files. If possible you can put here a link with .bin works, in 4shared to try ?
Thanks a lot for this video man, =D
Your description says to get an N8 to do SNES games? good luck with that. N8 stands for 8-bit NES (NES 8 Bit). heh.
How to make NES ever drive???
Could you please point me in the right direction for putting this www18.atwiki.jp/sm4wiki_mix/pages/64.html (thats just the patch file not the actual rom but I'm sure you will understand) on a cart?
+Tabu11211 I'll see what I can do, which one were you after? Mix4 or Mix4_AA?
+Shane McRetro First of all I would like to say thank you for your quick reply! I am interested in the Mix4_AA version.
+Tabu11211 You got lucky! :) I'll look into it and let you know within 24 hours! Stay strong!
+Tabu11211 It looks like the IPS file is around 24mbit (which means a 32mbit cartridge would suit, such as this exact video!) It appears to use. Was the IPS patch supposed to be used with the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros 4 / Super Mario World?
+Tabu11211 I made this guide up for you, it should help getting you most of the way :) mcretro.net/2016/03/16/rom-hacking-super-mario-world-usa-with-mix4aae/
could you do a video like this for game boy?
Yes problems
Can you make a Nintendo 64 everdriver
good
should just put a zif on it
-Shane McRetro
Hey, Big Thanks I REALLY Need This For Homebrew Games!
Also Thx For Subscribing To Me!
Also Chat With Me On Hangouts! Well, If You Want To
+Trentyne 567 Not a problem! I always sub to my dear friends who comment! What sort of homebrew will you be up to? :) Ahhh I don't use hangouts, I run out of time in my day too easily. Not quite sure where all the time goes!
+Shane McRetro Um, Just Games I Have Made Fresh From Scratch!
+Trentyne 567 I like it already! Wait till you see my amazing Mega Drive game, maybe I'll live stream it when we get decent internet here - any week now!
oooh! I Used To Have The Psy-Q Dev Kit
When My Mother Used To Develop Mega Drive Games!
+Trentyne 567 That's pretty cool! Any fun games come out of it?
I'll be messing around with a Mega Drive SDK in a little while, no idea how to program, so it should be quite interesting to see what examples out there can teach me!
ucon64 cracks Earthbound
+TheMapeha is that all that needs to be done to earthbound before its put on an EPROM in a reproduction?
This particular flash chip doesn't require any cracks, just works as long as you have the right hardware for your cart! Sort of wish I had a too smaller or larger SRAM to see what happens :)
make N64 one
Ohhooo the N64 is a very complicated beast, even the SNES was more complicated than I expected. Sega did a better job by keeping their carts cheap and putting all the bits in the console itself. (Well most of the time, Virtua Racing comes to mind)
I want play RE2 in N64
Ebay here I come, ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Nooooooo my cabbages! :-)
How much do you charge for putting a real game made in assembly language on a cartridge?
:)
16000$
You did a good job explaining how to make a super nintendo repro. I've been making repros for a little over a year now and my collection is awesome looking now because of it. You should take a shot at making a star ocean, or even a mario rpg Armageddon.
superreproductions.com
LMAO ... So you just so happen to be doing this with Earthbound. .. the most lucrative fake cart about just now ... good show lmao
Well yeah, Since its a very expensive cart , would make sense to do so. Hes not going to reproduce duck hunt is he
The CIC chip doesn't like your mod. find a board without a CIC chip then do the mod.
*****
Check out GameTechUS channel for cards and chip mods.
This is not a flash cart.
>zsnes
It's not pronounced as one word NES it's N - E - S!
In Australia its a NES and SNES respectively :D
Peter Jones Lol idk why he really needed to point this out, most of us in in the states say SNES as well. It is actually just weirdos who say the letters.
Shinomori Ryuichi Are you implying that all Nintendo fans aren't weirdos? Face you're just as weird as the rest of us, you're just saying it wrong!
Yh but that takes too long to say.....
Eddie Tupy It's pretty amusing to me that this comment I made in jest 9 months ago is still getting reactions.
Earthbound is a highly sought after game and if it is possible to change the rom into a snes cartridge and the outer label to earthbound it is safe to say that it could pass as a real game and be able to fool collectors into buying a really expensive knock off cartridge not worth a cent.
+NeoSonic25 There are reproduction labels, but there are differences between them and the original that anybody who looks close enough would be able to spot. (The originals have a glossy look, while reproductions look more flat.) Plus, most people will ask for board pictures when buying an expensive game like Earthbound, so you'd be caught there. All in all, it's a real scumbag move to try and pass a fake cartridge as authentic, so I'd recommend not doing it.
I was speaking hypothetically of course, this video really made me think and I'd love to do this sort of thing myself to get star fox 2 on a physical cartridge it would be great!
+Nitro GamePlay A guy named HS is remaking the first Earthbound game Mother 1 / Earthbound Zero / Earthbound Beginnings with the Earthbound engine. So i would want to make a cartridge out of it and actually play it on a SNES
Ninten
Hey actually I want to thank you for mentioning that, just keep it a secret if Nintendo hears it could end up like AM2R. And yeah it's possible to put Earthbound on a blank cart I have a reproduction, I bought it intentionally so it's okay and it does work, the Anti-Piracy methods in place on Earthbound have been cracked since 2007/8 2 version of the ROM and one was exploitable in a way that would prevent the piracy checks from running.
***** No problem my friend.
Or just buy a everdrive
Ohhhh where's the fun in that, party pooper :-)
*Looks at all the EverDrives in cabinet*
Yep, Krizzkzk has been good to us :-D
Very nice hentai any idea of how much it costs for all the bibs & bobs to bring this flashcart to life. Not to mention the trial & error of the inexperienced would be Cart maker? I’m just saying... this vid is cool, very informative but Bass Hunter statement is valid.
too many ads mate dislike and no subscribe....learn ur lesson
Lol!!!
