WOW. I love the matte black with the turquoise green and brown plates at the beginning of the video! And the black and white sgraffito plates are INCREDIBLE. So, SO beautiful! Thank you for sharing!
Wow! I love the scraffiti plates. I also love the art pieces that Jackie did. What a talented pair you are. It's lovely to see that you share the same passion. 🙂
Good morning Vaughan, a rainy few days here in Cornwall. Open Studios Cornwall started yesterday, unable to put tables outside this weather. My studio doors are always open but KROWJI doors are open to the public for the next 10 days - Krowji is Cornish for workshop/shed, it is an art hub here in Redruth. Loving the large platters and the painted mugs
Thanks Susy, That is a nice name for a shed/workshop. We have been told to expect a rough hurricane season since the ocean is warmer already than it should be by summer.
Do you ever use low fire fire glaze pieces? My high fire always comes out ugly...and I had bought 25 high fire glaze, don't know what I'll do with them now, because I'm just going to stick to low fire glazes
Yes, we use red moist clay from Laguna #20. I bisque fire to cone 01 and glaze to 04. The colours are much brighter. You should be able to sell the glazes. Who made them? Sometimes the glaze needs to be applied at a precise thickness for optimum results. Glaze layering also enhances appearance. Over glazing a first layer with an oatmeal or variegated glaze also works to create a textured surface. Good luck.
@Vsmithpots the glazes are high quality Mayco, amaco, celedons, shino, spectrum, botz, all variables mattes, crystals, texturizers. I do follow exactly what each glaze states, just can't figure it out. Not worth all the time I spend on carving & Sgrafitto for them to turn out so ugly. I've got about 12 pieces sitting in my studio over 4 months now there high fire & ready to put in kiln, but afraid to do it.
@@Vsmithpots Darn it! I would probably pay you! Seriously I’ve been admiring your work for a long time. I grew up in Maine; your videos make me homesick.

Vaughan, those sgraffito maritime platters are incredible. WOW!
I gasped when I saw the plate of Lunenburg - so beautiful! (So much patience!)

45 years and still learning from each other, sometimes it is tempting to almost copy something and take it further.
Wow Vaughan the plater’s are exquisite, they look so lovely with the rim which really draws your eye into them 😍
Thank you Mel, the black edge has a way of focusing the eye.
The yellow is nice! Like the bright colors but dark blue is still my favorite 💙

Nice pieces. The owls are my favourite.
That nautical plate is amazing!
Jackie's trays are superb! Love the sunflowers including the matte black vase! Is there a video of Jackie making her trays please?

Really love your blk / white Sgrafitto designs.❤❤
I just made 24 expresso mugs in Sgraffito, my hands ached.
@Vsmithpots I know they did, mine cramp up @ 4 pieces!
Love the trays!
Would love to see a demo on the owl platter.
Not a fan of yellow, but that jar looks nice with the green. Reminds me of a lemon.
just plain awesome.

Sorry we don't do that any more.
