  • Behind the scenes of BAIT - a BAFTA award-winning film from Falmouth University Distinguished Professor Mark Jenkin.
BAIT is the only British film to be selected for screening in the Forum strand of the Berlin International Film Festival 2019.
Part crewed by Falmouth University students and part-funded by our School of Film and Television - this film was shot on location in Charlestown and West Penwith, and hand processed on 16mm film using a sustainable and environmentally friendly process (involving instant coffee) in Mark Jenkin's Newlyn studio.
In this video, Mark Jenkin dicusses the story behind BAIT and how Falmouth University supported the making of the film.
Set runner and Falmouth University student, Natalys Willcox also discusses her experience of working on BAIT and gaining real industry experience.

This is really interesting, I advise a lot of my FE Photography students to seriously consider going to Falmouth, I'll add this as another selling point. Great to hear the film-maker extolling the virtues of collaborating with Falmouth and having lived in Cornwall I understood his apprehension relating to the logistics of shooting in Cornwall.

Well done Georgia and team. Almost as good as the film which I saw on Friday night at the lighthouse in Newquay. I shoot 100% film through my stills cameras, this inspires me to take the next step. Thank you:)

Inspiring stuff. I've got a script/project that could easily be shot the same way. Although it's been a very long time since I last picked up a bolex.

    How was the sound recorded?

All in post. Actors had to do all dialogue in ADR. No sound was recorded at the time of filming. All syncd by Mark Jenkin after he'd developed the film rolls himself.

Righteous film of a white working mans struggle. Only at the end does the bourgeois tourist types wife begin to get a clue about Martin and his community, that money and hard times and snobbery are destroying their way of life.
