This Deadly Topwater Method Gets SOO Many Blow-Ups!

- In this video I use a method that's deadly for getting shy fish to blow up those top water baits! Its simple but really effective! Rigging baits this way is killer especially for chub that tend to like a more subtle presentation. With the rivers being closed this is a great way to get some chub action on the canal!

Fantastic video as always Chris. It's unbelievable how you seem to spot fish with such ease 👍
Kevin 👋
Your skill at picking fish off, seemingly at will, is amazing to watch and has to be admired.
David 👋
Agreed. However, if I may raise one point; my local perch/pike don't seem too put off by my slightly heavier set-up; so for anyone wondering, I wouldn't worry too much about using heavier braid with lighter lures, up to 20 lbs BS, let's say.
I usually use as follows
[15 - 20 lbs BS braid mainline] - [anti-kink vane] - [About 12 - 18 inches of 15 - 20 lbs mono/flouro leader] - [15 - 20 lbs BS wire trace]
I have even used this set-up on a rod as light as 3g - 12g Ultralight Albatros Street Fishing Concept rod; so I don't think a light rod matters; it seems to be a matter of the right bait, and a little skill and patience.
@@NobleKorhedron Hey 👋
I know, it took me over 30 4-5 hour sessions to catch my only pike, it was a great looking 10lber on a lure. I feel very rewarded for it but it was a lot of effort tbh. Haven’t really lured since
If you carry on like this Chris , it won't be long before you are the next John Wilson 😎
Mick 👋
i love how you handle your fish, people often dont realize the most crucial thinng is not keeping it out of water for long
Best angler on youtube, pure diversity. Really helps all us novices learn new tricks.
Lexington 👋
very nice video Chris, i don't have canal's in Suffolk, but it's good to watch you do it thank you 👍👍
What’s up ⬆️ James ???👋🥰
Nice one again Chris,Some cracking chub and a Great size too . Nice rod & reel set up as well.
Trevor 👋
this looks like an absolute blast! Never associate Chub with the canal - unreal scenes!!
👋
Absolutely nothing this past few weeks , gives me a bit of motivation to keep going cheers.
Wayne 👋🎈
Cracking video Chris, never thought about using creature baits on the surface, will be trying it out next time I go. Should work a great on my local rivers, that is when they open.
Me to. I’m sure I can find a few chunks when the rivers open😁
@@pauldaniels921 Drifting a bait under a overhanging willow, should get some chub.
I can picture said willows in my mind right now👍👍

Hi Chris, I do like your videos and the care you give the fish. I fly fish and for 35 years until 3 years ago fished on the River Ure at Masham, North Yorkshire. I regularly caught big chub taking my trout flies. Never weighed any but all quickly freed. My biggest would have easily been 6lbish. Nick from York
Nick 👋
Great video again, love to see videos of you tackling foreign rivers like the Ebro. No better man.
Another great video Chris. Thanks. You inspire me.
Cheeks 👋
Cool video Chris, will be trying this for sure, 😁👍👍
Jay 👋
I catch a lot of chub on micro wake-baits and love the top water hits.
I may have to re-evaluate the soft baits after this for when a super slow presentation is needed.
They're confident on that lure if they're taking it that far back. Awesome vid
Imo you’re the best fishing channel on YT nowadays. I am very envious of your ability as a fisherman. We can all learn the knots and rigs, buy the gear etc but it doesn’t equal ability. If I had even one of the sessions you have regularly, id be bragging for months on end.
Thanks buddy!
@@The_ginger_fisherman you’re welcome mate. I like to see people doing well.

Great stuff as always. Really relaxing videos, good job. You deserve to grow more as a channel.

Great fishing Chris! I’m planning to do the same with Zman lures this summer for pike.

I think I'll have a go of that myself looks great fun 🎣

Chris you need to do a video on spotting fish because I'm terrible at it. Also get your fly rod out again 😉
Chub rule, I miss you since I moved to Ireland ....
Great video as always. Thank you👍🏻
Great video Chris decent size chub in that canal
Great video Chris some awesome chub mate
Great video with some cracking fish 👍👍
Great chub video Chris!
Great video! With loads of good tips!
Great video! You have a nice place there for chub!
Always a great watch
I would love to fish with the ginger fisherman as I'm a river fisherman as well, personal best fish include, pike to 23lb 12oz and chub 7lb 4oz
Minted video as always Chris by far my favorite Fishing Channel!, I've yet to catch a nice Chub(Only been fishing for a few years lol) - If you have the time could you maybe do a video/help me on how you chose the correct type of Polarized glasses for your river stalking etc. The online advice is kinda mixed emotions on which colors for which type of fishing every website seems to be different advice. I noticed you have Grey/Black and this is for everyday fishing I think. Any advice would be top

I think I've fished that stretch of water studied close by to there remember me and my pal getting off train and walking along it with us eyes popping out it its like a disney cartoon in warmer days fish all over top didn't see many getting on for that size though definitely didn't catch any of that size by time we managed to fish it but had a good few and good time while we was at it good vid mate.
Great fun fishing.......for em..... Always important to blow,.away .. at least one dandelion head each year....

Chris class as always👊 just wondering here do you keep a record of all the fish you catch?🤔
Tony 👋
Great way of fishing 👍 I wonder if a perch would go to the surface to take one
Doyle 👋
Your so lucky to have Chubin the canal. Never ever seen one in the Ashby Canal
Steven 👋
Love watching your videos, your knowledge and plethora of techniques is incredible! What’s it take for a day of fishing with you? I’ve got my own go to waters local but would love to fish some of these areas with some local know how
What reel are you using buddy like the carbon handle
You gunna do some more carp fishing this season ? Great videos as always 👌🏽
Yes matey
Hi Chris just fished the very same peg you had your first fish on today in-between the dog shit bin and the sports and social club 6 chub 4 bream and a good couple of dozen skimmers perch and roach also 1 tiny pike double red maggot size 18 hook to 2lb hook length on pole lost a few but a cracking 5 hours great video as always looking at this I might get the fly rod out
Great fishing mate. I've been meaning to have a go for the bream there for some time. I know there's loads in that section
@@The_ginger_fisherman they tend to hang around on the long bend up from the lock had a netfull there last autumn
Great video, what's the rod and reel combination you're using here? Thanks
Apologize for the rookie question, is it possible to fish canals all year round?
Does anyone know what size hook to use to rig the fox rage floating creature baits?

Nice one mate, what net is that
Dead jealous of you Ginge - nearest canal to me is just under 2 hours drive and as for trout fishing, we’ve got it, but it’s fluff chucking only. Still waters just aren’t the same ☹️
Well that’s cool
Nice fish man.. Where its canal?
Another cracking vid Chris, awesome tactic defo be giving it try. Can I ask what fluro you used on the reel? I've tried a couple of brands in the past and had problems with horrific line twist
Dunc 👋
Being able to see chub in ya local canal is a proper bonus! What if ya can't see sh1t 🤣 cast and hope I'm guessing 🤷♂️
Are there any restrictions on tackle and a spawning ban on fishing throughout the year.
Just no fishing on rivers and SSSI waters. No restriction on methods or species
What Polaroids do you use?
I always seem to get a break at the knot when using fluorocarbon. Which knot do you use?
Great video BTW
Bubb 👋
Would this work for brown trout or sea trout?🤔🤔
what sunglasses do you use
Great video chris ,what size hook do you use on the creature baits mate ,forgot to ask you
It ok chris just seen hook size mate 🤣
So it’s just unweighted weedless creature bait?
Yep
Nice! Tried this after I bumped into you last week, but no joy 😢. Perhaps my ginger beard needs thickening up?…
Its the beard that does the trick mate 😂
What time of the year is this session? Thanks
Just over a week ago 👍
@@The_ginger_fisherman that’s more awesome :D…i tought that they strike only in the summer like that.
Thought this was an American channel by the title
When you see garbage in the water, pull it out.
Did ya grab ice cream from shop ?
I thought it was closed season for coarse fishing ??
Only on rivers, canals can be fished all year
🔥🔥🔥🔝
love the idea, Chris. Works with big booby's too.Try micro baits on fly lines.
Chris - great vid - pity the water wasn't clearer - nothing like seeing a great big pair of white lips coming up!
Hi
Used to I did fishing in itching river at Hampshire I did catching 3.5- 4 kg few chubs down there but some Lithuanians spot me and you can catch fuck all now they took any fish what's they catch big, small
