    About fifty years ago i found an ammonite and boy was i pleased with myself. I still have it on my mantelpiece, but its only about 3/4" across. Boy you made me feel jealous, but its an amazing thrill isn't it to hold something in your hand that could be in excess of 65 million years old? Take care out there.

    You are so lucky finding ammonites all over the place! I live in Northern Ireland and there are very few places to find fossils along the coast. i found a broken piece of ammonite and a broken piece of an imprint from an ammonite.but i was so excited to find those bits!!! But i would love to find a complete specimen or even better a pyritized one!!

    • @WhitbyFossils1
      @WhitbyFossils1  Год назад

      More or less none at all. You have sites called sssi which means you can hammer or dig the bed rock. Anything ex-situ is free to whomever found it.

    Why you walking around with a shopping bag mate? You need to get yourself a nice backpack with a cheaper liner. Would be less likely that you can damage your finds whilst constantly putting them on rocks and it's so much nicer carrying them on your back.

  • @dizwell
    @dizwell Год назад +1

    Sorry to ask, but under Section 18 of the Coastal Protection Act 1949, aren't you videoing yourself committing multiple offences that could each trigger a £1000 fine? I've read of people merely taking home a Cornish pebble being compelled to return it from whence it was souvenired, for example. Just wondering what the legalities are.

    • @WhitbyFossils1
      @WhitbyFossils1  Год назад

      No problem. Collecting is completely fine. It’s Queensland(or kingsland now I suppose). Anything you find is yours. Only rules are for sssi locations, which means no hammering or digging in situ, meaning the fossil is the bed rock or cliffs themselves. Anything that has come lose from either is perfectly find and no issue. Hope that helps 👍

      It is possible to believe in God without being a literal creationist and calling gastropods "Devil's Toenails" in certian knowledge that they were a work of evil to decieve mankind. What can be more godly than seeing evolution? Personally, I am a flying spaghetti monsterist/Jedi.
