All the "small" super sedans from that era were gems. The RS4 and the M3 with their super high revving crossplane V8s, the C63 with its enormous 6.2l and the Lexus IS F honestly for just being a 5.0l V8 powered Lexus. They all sound awesome, look pretty good and are unique in their own way.
Its really ridiculous how everyonr argues what's a better car but thr truth is subjective. Test drive every single car in your budget , buy which ever one makes you feel good and fits your personal taste. Stats, numbers, track times, all that crap means nothing at all. The world isn't a track nor is it a drag strip. So if your trying to find a daily fuck everything else and pick the one that gives you goose bumps!! so many great options out there
Reallity is that the best most fit car in the real world is a confortable one, mostly driven either city or highway. Audi or Mercedes. Where do you do drifts in city or highway, huh bmw?
What I feel needs to be considered is that these cars get used as daily drivers all around the world. Whilst the M3 is an absolute blast to drive, and hands down the most dynamic of the two, it can't offer the same versatility that the RS4 can. The RS4 is available as an estate, it's far more reliable (no rod bearings causing engine failure), and when the going gets tough it leaves the M3 and other cars like it for dead. I live in Norway, a country in which we tend to have 5-6 month long winters with icy roads and LOTS of snow. With an M3 you'll have to spend 20 minutes every morning shoveling in order to even get it out of your driveway, and then you'll have to drive it as if it only had a fourth of its power, because if you as much as look at the throttle the tail will go mad. The RS4, on the other hand, just wades through snow as if its not even there. Even in the worst of conditions, you can use every last drop of the power that its V8 delivers. It damn near feels like a full on rally car when you drive it hard up a mountain road during winter. If I lived in a country where conditions tend to be a-okay, I'd probably be in the M3, it's an absolutely stunning car. However, as a full on daily driver in a country like mine, it wasn't even a contender. Had my B7 RS4 Avant for a couple of months now, and it's just the perfect combination of everything. Also, values are increasing!
Rs4 more reliable lol, are you having a laugh. Trust me the rs4 is far from reliable mate. Mine has cost an absolutely fortune to run and repair. My M3 is much more reliable.
@@ChattanM3 Could you specify what exactly cost you a fortune on the RS4 ? One of my relatives has owned both as to my knowledge the M3 was much more to maintain especially when the rod bearings were shot.
@@ChattanM3 stop lying. The bmws have rod bearing issues which are a fortune to replace. This Audi V8 shares the same engine as the R8 V8 which it’s only problems are carbon on the back of the valves and the oil cooler lines. None catastrophic engine problems, unlike the trash bmw.

on the road i think the Audi would be quicker as it quicker off the mark until m3 catches it but by then there's been a round a bout and Audi is off again, bm won't catch it like that, bm will only catch and overtake it on a track
I don't find the Audi's do give me confidence, that rubbery removed feeling leaves me not knowing what's going on under my front axle. No doubt the Audi will get off the line better, but once at speed on roundabouts the advantage I'd say is even if not slightly in the M3's favour.
The confidence the quattro-system gives you is false. Not-so-experienced drivers might think that because they have more grip when accelerating they can also corner quicker. That's how you end up in a tree and to a coffin...

As I currently drive an RS4...I'm kinda bias on this one. The Beemer sounded better than I thought it would but that auto box kills it. That model with a manual box...and you might have a competition. FYI, the RS4 (unless you fit a Supercharger) doesn't have an Intercooler as mentioned at the start..
Driven both back to back prefer the m3 (had a GTS gear box flash) huge difference in power delivery and drivability being a auto m3 sounds better looks better imo more theatre to it than the rs4. Rs4 is mental too but the m3 just tops it
Haven't driven the RS4 so couldn't say, but I do own a 2011 frozen black M3 and the driving experiences are never ever a dull ride EVER! It does bite that I live in Canada and can't drive it 4/5 months of the year so there's that.

Excellent video! I owned an e92 M3. The other day I drove a B7 RS4 saloon on Welsh roads. I really enjoyed it. I could buy the car but am not sure. It's been sat around for about 12 months with hardly any use. Sad. It's only done 56k. I think I could get it for a reasonable price but am not sure whether to make an offer.
Either that rs4 has super long throws or he just likes to granny shift. He goes deep into the red line. Prob why I'll never buy any b7 rs4 that's not perfectly pristine and maintained. They're cheap enough now for people who beat on cars to buy. The B8 S4, is lighter, better weight diatribution, better diff, faster, and more refined. Better fuel economy. Basically better in every way. But I still want an rs4 for that glorious exhaust note. They're both old school euro muscle cars and will be a relic someday. Cars from a time when manufacturers didn't build it because it made sense, they built it because they could. Hopefully I'll have one in my garage before they become too collectible to afford or there aren't any good ones left!
I Got a miltek non resonated valved system fitted on my rs4 b7 and stage 2 mapped last Friday at mrc tuning, and wow the sound is just epic! Sound on video’s just cant do it justice.
Can you explain the intercooler on the mod list of the RS4? Since a (stock) B7 rs4 has a NA engine. M3 vs RS4 is a difficult choice If it was purely for track use I would choose the M3. Imho the B7 RS4 is the best RS(4) audi has ever made. It's raw, I think it looks and sounds phenomenal. I have driven the b8 rs4 and it just feels like less of a drivers car compared to the b7. ALso when you live in a rainy area or area with heavy winters the quattro really adds value. BUT the quattro also makes it less fun to drive compared to the rwd m3. Just bought a rs4 b7 and I'm absolutely loving it practically identical to the one in the video. but the m3 e92 was my first choice. I want a Manual e92 m3 but love the dct gearbox . So I'm still torn . The thought of never missing a gear then having to drive it like you stole to make up for the mistake . Does it take the fun out I'm not sure but I'll be buying one around Christmas time. Any thoughts or feed back would be much appreciated. Great video as well love this channel.
I hate how some people try to make one brand look better and the other is nothing? Both Audi and Bmw are great cars and both at good at something i myself have a b5 a4 1.8tq 240hp and 330i e46 the Bmw is a great car handles well and you feel really connected the steering gives you great feedback and corners are more fun due to the rwd , Audi is fun aswell and does give you more confidence and feels faster due to the quattro but the best thing about Audi is that it finds grip nearly everytime and wet roads are not a problem and you can play with it increasing power is so much easier. Bmw could be better in wet conditions and Audi could have a better steering feel and give more feedback but to say that either one of these cars suck thats just silly they are both great cars BTW that was some really good driving
The rwd gives you thrills the quattro can't! Simple as that for me. It might be quicker in the real world but just flicking the tail out on the roundabout like you did that's what does it for me. I do like the growl of the RS4 better though. Did you have the mic right by the exhaust on the M3? I can hear it crackle and spit a few times but never hear that in mine unless on track... Fab cars both of them and future classics for sure

While m3 is for sure faster on track, I think on road you can go faster with rs4 as quattro gives you much more confidence. Great video

That rs4 seems to rev so free compared to newer Audi's. Is it just me or...?

I hate how some people try to make one brand look better and the other is nothing? Both Audi and Bmw are great cars and both at good at something i myself have a b5 a4 1.8tq 240hp and 330i e46 the Bmw is a great car handles well and you feel really connected the steering gives you great feedback and corners are more fun due to the rwd , Audi is fun aswell and does give you more confidence and feels faster due to the quattro but the best thing about Audi is that it finds grip nearly everytime and wet roads are not a problem and you can play with it increasing power is so much easier. Bmw could be better in wet conditions and Audi could have a better steering feel and give more feedback but to say that either one of these cars suck thats just silly they are both great cars BTW that was some really good driving

The rwd gives you thrills the quattro can't! Simple as that for me. It might be quicker in the real world but just flicking the tail out on the roundabout like you did that's what does it for me. I do like the growl of the RS4 better though.
Did you have the mic right by the exhaust on the M3? I can hear it crackle and spit a few times but never hear that in mine unless on track... Fab cars both of them and future classics for sure
M3 sounds aggressive and raw but the RS4 sounds like its trying hard to be aggressive.

The RS4 B7 exhaust note sounds very similar to a ford mustang GT350R , if it had a super charger it would be difficult to tell th3 difference.
