"Swampert is a blueprint of how defensive pokemon should be". I cant agree more to this statement. Swampert imo may not be the historically strongest pokemon especially in later gens, but its one of the best and most balanced well designed ever.

7:43 Plus there's also how, from Gen 2 to 3, stat EXP was replaced with EVs, meaning it's impossible for Swampy to run max bulk - it has to skimp somewhere, unlike GSC Snorlax or Suicune. If it skimps on Speed, it can't prevent Claydol from Rapid Spinning away Spikes. If it skimps on offenses, it doesn't get guaranteed KOs on threats. If it skimps on defences, it can't last as long against said threats, especially if they carry Surprise HP Grass.
@@skeetermania3202 No you can't - you can't run 252 HP/252 Def/252 Sp. Def in Gen 3. You have to choose a maximum of two stats to fully max out, with EVs, sacrificing the third aspect. Salamace was from my sapphire copy as a kid, where i grinded it out to lvl 100 by going through the elite 4 like 50 times. The metagross and dragonite i got in my recently purchased emerald and fire red. I EV trained those two and the metagross has a 399 attack.
