No way he got it from Vesuvio. Artie only sources the freshest ingredient and the level of care. Ma almost cried!

It was obviously the Indian place they ate at.
Love the backyard rabbit!
Tony, i thought you were a gabagool guy.. what are you doing eating muscles?
I feel like him getting sick and having these dreams on the same night as Tony comes to the semi realisation that Pussy is a rat at Vesuvio's when he's talking about the phone card scam is a big clue that his illness is a mental thing.
We’re doin a bang bang 😂😂
The real question is who swapped the orange peeled beef at the Chinese restaurant
Great video!
Heart broken then
Tony was stuffing his face so much by that point he could have gotten it from half a dozen different places.

These are the kind of questions that need answering
Yes. Yes they are.
Agreed
It was stated in the book that it was the mussels.
@@matthewbarry1746I gotta get that book
Whether it was the mussels, vindaloo, or psychosomatic, it was definitely written by someone who has had a bad case of food poisoning. Many years ago, a pharmaceutical rep brought in a deli tray to the office. I was the only one that had a sandwich with mayonnaise. That night, I was violently ill and had some of the most vivid, strange, and terrifying dreams ever.
Bet she was selling anti-nausea medication. Creating new clients. Makes you think 🤔
Tell us about the dreams
Go figure a pharma rep doesn't know food safety 😭
The worst case I ever had was from a TV dinner. I'm pretty sure the TV dinner was allowed to thaw out, and then got put back in the freezer. It was a Hungry Man. 12 straight hours, violently throwing up or having to sit on the toilet, which is extra disgusting when you have to throw up again.
It was the mayo. Mayo at room temperature goes bad quick.
It was eating at Satriales after they just processed Richie there. Aprile's revenge.
No, Richie was buried on a hill overlooking a little river...

I thought the bigger questions from this episode were: 1) How does AJ NOT KNOW who's letting those big ones? Did he not just hear Carmela say his Dad wasn't feeling well? 2) How thin are the walls of that house?
One of my favorite scenes in the entire series. So special.
I hate to think Carmella ever would fart like that with that beautiful ass of hers.
Especially being that only 4 people live in that house and 2 of them were standing right in front of AJ.. process of elimination isn't his strong suit
@@Damidas Well, he also had to have 'gutters' explained and shown to him. AJ was so frustrating.
@@cade377 That part was funny, Tony thought he was being a smartass but he really didn’t know. Even tho he got older, AJ stayed being a child the entire series which added an innocence to the balance of the cast ensemble
Food poisoning is an experience you’ll never forget… or want.

@@billyheaning take it easy.
There is a seafood theme going on there. The fish on the platter, the mussels and the fish in the fever dream.
foreshadowing to Pussies final resting place
And Big P dying at sea and ending up sleeping with the fishes.
Funny how this means Artie came close to killing Tony twice. That put him at odds with Junior with his hit on Tony and pulling the good ol "Cazzata malanga" on him
Food poisoning couldn’t really kill him tho since he had doctors and everything anyway but yeah closest to getting Tony vulnerable 😂
I agree that it was the realisation about Pussy that made him sick, I believe Steven Shirippa and Michael Imperioli spoke about it on the podcast also when they covered funhouse
The camera lingers on the mussels. Artie was so proud of them. They're prominently featured. Moreso than the vindaloo. Of course it was Artie who gave him the food poisoning.
The camera lingered on the mussels, it compromised and was the vindaloo instead
Crispness of the beans.
@@Norwoodg00ner idk how this shit always gets a laugh out of me
I agree. Chicken vindaloo would've been cooked well, and Cuze was right about the microbial agents. But Artie was also right about the Gee. I think it was a mix of BOTH that got him sick.
It’s always gonna be Indian food that messes up ur stomach
I'm sorry to say that Kino, as a RUclips content creator you are running a fucking popularity contest here!! Good vid as always. Always fun to listen to your take on things.
My pizza never hurt nobody
Come again, sir?
Lets be real here, Tony’s food poisoning is definitely from two black guys
It was definitely the Indian food, because the mussel’s where share, and Pussy didn’t get sick. Besides that, food poisoning is rather different from Adriana’s problems, because it can’t be cause by the mind. In some subconscious level Tony knows that the card scheme couldn’t be pullout by Pussy, by the same way Arties mussel’s couldn’t be cause of his food poisoning, because Pussy has being aliened from the game. Therefore in his dream Tony realizes that Pussy is an FBI informant. Um abraço do Brasil! 🇧🇷
I think the answer is the Italian food made Tony sick. If you have ever been sick from seafood, it’s one of the worst food poisonings. At first Tony didn’t want to believe it because how could his beloved Italian food betray him? In the same way some of his men have actively worked against Tony(Paulie for example) Pussy’s betrayal also exasperated his illness.
Beautifully written as always but this little story was deeper than just food poisoning. Pussy is the Italian food and tony doesn’t want to believe it’s what made him sick, that pussy is the one betraying Tony especially given how close they are.
I gotta agree, the psychosomatic theory is good but I like the Italian food being the cause in the story better thematically
@@militantautist9811 correct. It’s in line with the story and theme of the episode. Almost like a Caesar moment, et tu Artie?
I proudly haven't vomited since March 30, 1992, and the culprit then was a can of Campbell's Manhattan clam chowder. So I totally understand seafood poisoning being one of the worst!
oooo I like that
You know what they cook with in Indian restaurants? Ghee-- clarified butter. You get a rancid hit of that...
Kino, love these theory videos. Keep ‘em comin’.
I got food poisoning once from old chicken wings and it sucked. When you get really bad fevers and sickness it definitely effects your dreams. The show was brilliant in the way his fever dreams made him face what he already knew about Pus. The night before, Pus was telling Furio how the calling card scam worked, almost like he told that story a few times before.
Same, the 1 time I got food poisoning was also from chicken and I was having fever dream hallucinations that looked like Tron with electrical grids everywhere, it was freakin crazy
@@Damidas I specifically remember having these dreams when I had food poisoning from bad wings, where I was biting down on huge pieces of fat and biting/chewing really hard while pieces of metal train track were deep within the fat I was chewing which made it feel weird like I shouldn't be doing this. LOL. Hard to explain, dreams are weird when you're NOT trippin balls from poison food you ate LOL
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 That sounds horrible, I know what you mean about the uncomfortable sensations from dreams when you're ill. Ever since I was a child I've had this reoccurring hallucination during fever dreams of a single object in a giant open void of dark space and whatever the object may be is simultaneously filling up the entire giant void of space while also existing as a tiny microcosm within the giant void, but i can see both sizes of the same object at the same time, it's such a distorting feeling. Like I would see a teddy bear that is 300ft tall and then my focus would immediately switch to the teddy bear appearing as if it's 1inch tall lol it's so weird
@@Damidas the mind is a terrible thing to taste
Why were you eating old chicken wings?
I always figured he was sick from anxiety. Anxiety can really make you ill like Tony was.
Our parasympathetic system 'fight or flight' puts blood in our muscles, not to digestion. Digestion is sympathetic "rest and digest" system.
Anxiety, what?
@@LOL60345 if I had a fever, was hallucinating, and threw up and shit out everything in my stomach, and a doctor said it was anxiety, I'd probably punch him in the nose.
Anxiety ain’t making u sick like food poisoning 😂
Nothing makes you sick like food poisoning trust me. At first you’re afraid your going to die, then you’re afraid that you won’t die.

I ate a bunch of seafood at a restaurant once with my dad. we ate the exact same stuff but while he was completely fine, I had really bad food poisoning. I think it was the Italian food.
It had to be the Indian food.
It takes hours, sometimes even a full day to digest a single meal into the G.I. Tract.
The Italian food was later in the day, and wasn't enough time to make him sick like that.
Nah. I once got food poisoning because of something I ate for lunch. I vomited and shat out everything before 6 pm
Not really, I got food poisoning a few hours after eating it.
I always figured it was the Indian food because apparently I'm racist for thinking that
@@smartyjonez5470 ohhh 🤌🤌🤌
I been sayin that for years that it wasn't food poisoning, he was upset about killing his friend.
Personally I think it was Tony coming to terms with what he had to do about puss. He was avoiding that situation since season 1. Also after they got to puss he was fine again.
Personally I always took the psychosomatic answer as true ever since my first rewatch. The series was always about the psychology of people and what can drive them to both good and horrible actions (mostly horrible). The repeated reference to such problems made me think this was a necessary psychosomatic illness to connect Tony’s conscious and subconscious to admit to himself what he knew about his friend. This idea of connecting conscious and sub conscious is expressed in many of the weird dream sequences in the show.
I agree look at Adrianna how sick she was and for how long all the drinking and drugs she did. Yet we see no evidence of her being sick day to day until the stress is put on her.
Naw, if it was psychosomatic it would have been diarrhea like Adrianna. This was definitely food poisoning, but a lot of things can cause food poisoning. For all we know he could have poisoned himself, I'm sure that fat fck ate at home too
I think he really was sick. Tony wakes up thinking he’s having psychological pain before realizing it’s physical.
@@cardinaloflannagancr8929 very true
@@TheXcizer fair enough dude we just differ on that. I just think because they tend to blend psychological and physical illness as a concept. Also there’s plenty of shots of tony looking like he knows something is of about puss but is shrugging it off briefly before the dream.
As someone who has eaten out of countless dumpsters and has never gotten food poisoning before, this is intriguing
I would eat from dumpsters as long as I watched the person place the items IN the dumpster and the part I ate didn't touch the bottom or sides or anything. I wouldn't take food that's been in there awhile since rats or bugs could've gotten on it.
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 I was homeless and on the streets. Couldn't bring myself to go to shelters all the time. I'd go to soup kitchens when they were running and I'd dumpster dive. Worst thing I ate was a rancid donut from a Dunkin. Only took one bite and I could instantly tell it was off.
Most of the food was perfectly fine. If it ever seemed questionable, I'd find something else. Couldn't always wait to see when it was thrown out but I'm much more selective now that I'm not homeless lol
Ew nasty I bet you stink
@@AdaptiveApeHybrid I dont think you can get food poisoning from a donut i think it has to be some kind of meat. But what do I know
@@johnv6806 yeah that's absolutely wrong, no offense lol. Rice causes a bunch of cases.
Not that rice equates to donut but my point is grain can cause food poisoning and it's very well documented
It's that damn clarified butter I tell ya.

You can let some of them go!
I know Who Gave Tony Food Poisoning! It was those two Blac...

It was some old gabagoo. Gandolfini complained that it was the same gabagoo they had been using for a scene last season. The director yelled at Gandolfini and questioned his manhood, so against his better judgement Gandolfini ate it. It was in all the papers at the time.
I don't know what's more head shaking: you still making vids about the dumbest little thing in a show that ended like a decade ago or that I still watch said vids.
Pure kino you are one great analyst
I disagree with your interpretation of Tony waking up in the beginnings of a panic attack. He's waking from a dream where he's literally just set himself on fire with a fever and symptoms of a stomach bug. The interpretation I have always taken was the dream he is waking from, the self immolation, was the first of many fever dreams throughout. Dream sequences do play a big part throughout the series, often giving surreal imagery that seems to always be hinting at something, but the dreams in Funhouse stand-out in how Tony goes in and out of them, and has the lines of reality blurring, the happenings in the real world around him having a direct influence on his dream imagery. This is the only dream heavy episode where there are the odd sound effects in the background, often sounds from reality bleeding in. A good example is the scene where Tony sits down at the table to announce he's buying a boat and Meadow announces she's going to Columbia, with the sounds of wind and Tom Petty Tony snaps awake, still suffering from the symptoms in the back of his Suburban with Tom Petty on the radio on the way to whack Pussy. Yes, eventually Tony does get another boat, and Meadow does decide on Columbia, but neither of those things happened that day. The only other episodes with a similar bleedover from reality to "dream" would be the coma episodes, and that's a whole different thing in itself. The fact he also got a lookover from Dr Cusamano, who is established as his primary care provider, so he knows Tony's medical history, including his tendency towards panic attacks. Tony was running a fever, and the Cous's biggest advice was to chew ice chips to help with his fever and to keep him hydrated, and gives his medical opinion as to what Tony likely has based on the situation. I think all that together is a big sign that the idea that it's psychosomatic is a stretch. Tony already has a condition that is caused by his stress, the panic attacks themselves. While I think your pointing to other examples of pyschosomatic instances in the series is interesting, this would be inconsistent for Tony's experiences with his panic attacks. They never presented in a similar manner through the course of the series. So, I think this is a stretch, but good content as usual, and an interesting take.
As to which restaurant is the culprit, well, that's another matter, maybe both 🤣

Sopranos fan too, but your review of College is OTT. Yes Sopranos was groundbreaking in the way it depicted the mafia. But if you scour the 70s, you'll find some realistic and gritty depictions. Golden Age is pushing it. Please refer to the 70s and 80s. Also feel the makers of the Sopranos most likely have a broader reference to choose from. See Rockford Files, Homicide Life on the Street, The Corner, Hill Street Blues, Mash and a ton of UK, European and world TV. Get out your box and watch something non American and get back to me.
😂😂😂 a video made to verify what caused food poisoning. Even though the show didnt say what specifically caused it.
These speculations 😂😂😂
Bacteria isn't really the issue with food poisoning is it though. It is all about the toxins left behind by dead bacteria. Artie would never have food poisoning in his restaurant, and I don't want to hear about it again.
I think Tony ingested some "rat" poison, and knew he had to finally do something about it.
you know its a complex as fuck show when there are videos investigation who gave the main character the shits
It was the gabagool!
maybe you mention this idk im being an asshole and commenting before i finish the video, but i totally interpreted it as symbolic of like... Tony is attacked and hes unsure if the source of his attack is foreign or domestic. like are the people violating his life from inside his circle or out
Got food poisoning from bad chicken back in 1998. It's the worst.
He ate grilled cheese off the radiator between the mussels & Indian
there's our answer, he compromised but didn't have Phil's experience at it.
YEAAAAH no it was the indian food, the clue is in the waiter at the restaurant who is holding a tray with a fish. The same fish that Tony dreams about.
Couldnt have been artie. He picks every shellfish himself.
Bang Bang with seafood in one meal and Indian food on another?.. No need to ask what exactly made him ill. Just the mix was enough
The true cause of the food poisoning, has yet, to reveal itself (rolls away)
I don't wanna insinuate anything, but it was probably the deli meats he eats nonstop.
It was New York.
Adriana was diagnosed with colon issues. It wasn't entirely psychosomatic. My cousin had the same issue and she had no mental problems, she just got sudden diarrhea now and then. It can be treated with medication. The scene where she vomits all over the table at the FBI was psychosomatic, though.
She was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis which, although can be genetic and not purely psychosomatic, the initial onset can be caused by a stressful psychological period.
Your cousin is a rat you just haven’t spoken to some fish in a dream yet
I always thought it was interesting how Tony said "its not my head..its my stomache!" Because he had already convinced himself that Pussy wasn't the informant, but, his gut instinct told him differently. Add the dream sequence; Tony went with his gut and not his heart or rationale.
This biggest unanswered question is what happened to the Russian
It wasn't Tony S who got sick, rather James Gandolfini. He probably got it from what remained of a picked-over craft services spread after an especially long day of shooting that ran way past the expected wrap time. The writers tinkered a little bit, a llittle bit, and/or the actors improv'd a little bit. A little bit. Now go get yer Maalox.
Naw man I’ve had alottttt of anxiety. Had alot of NAUSEA from anxiety, but getting a fever for DAYS? I don’t know about that one
Merry Christmas to all Sopranos fans. The rest can go to hell 🌲
This is the type of content I subbed for.
I thought it was stress-induced. The chef himself explains it. The mixture of certain cuisines is risky. Plus he realized a seriously harsh truth and had serious anxiety about needing to murder his oldest friend.
I’ve eaten weird food and have been kinda stressed out and have ended up being completely wrecked. My advice: never go out for oysters and then have a hot chocolate for desert while going through a bad breakup.
Haha.
Point is, my stress didn’t involve murdering a childhood friend.
There is no mystery. He ate weird food and the food poisoning is symbolic of it making him “sick”
The guilt, the paranoia, the possibility of going to prison forever or being murdered regardless of whether he murders him, but he cannot allow him to live…
If that doesn’t make one nauseous and vomity and flulike, I don’t know what does.
It’s the undeniable knowledge pussy flipped that matters. Not the food he ate.
Idk just my interpretation
How can you even debate that Ralphie did NOT kill Pie O My. .. That was clear as hell
I honestly never believed Ralphie killed Pie, he was so angry that Tony kept insisting he was responsible but didn't deny that he was relieved about it, I feel like with Ralph being the psycho he is, he would have confessed that he killed the horse either accidentally during his outburst or intentionally to rub it in Tony's face if he did actually do it but I really don't think he did, still had it comin' either way tho.
It's Ralphie's fault that horse was a klutz?!
I saw a crackpot theory that Paulie was the one who really killed Pie O My out of jealousy (which is why he kept looking at the picture of Tony with the horse strangely). I doubt this is what actually happened, but it’s interesting to think about
It had to be Indian food. Tony goes to Arthurs's restaurant all the time and never got sick. It was a mixture of food and stress he was having denying Pussy was an informant. People can get sick when their stressed it happened to Adriana when she was being integrated by the police.
I don’t know about that. I’ve gotten food poisoning at a restaurant I frequently go to before and never again. It can happen.
@@SplendidCoffee0 Another thing to look at is when Tony and Pussy we're eating at the Indian restaurant. The statue of Shiva is behind them meaning he represents revelation.
@@theowlman7091 that’s a pretty reasonable way to look at it.
It was neither. The stress of Pussy’s betrayal made Tony sick.
Ssafood can become deadly when not handled properly.
See that sprint to the toilet? That’s how you letter in football
I always assumed it was his mind telling him signals about pussy being a rat, and his heart didnt want to hear it. So i agree wiyh you.
Indian food made him sick. Always does me in, too.
If it was food poisoning, it was the mussels. It was actually Pussy who quickly barked for the order of mussels, connecting them to him. He could stomach the poison (being a rat) that Tony couldn’t. Or perhaps Tony got the one bad one. Either way the dish was ordered by Puss. He made a choice that made Tony sick (representing his betrayal with the Feds).
All I know is it didn’t come from Vesuvio.
But ... My pizza never hurt nobody !
I never noticed there was something more to it until now
A Louie reference IN video about The Sopranos hahaha let's fucking go
This proves it. Tony does not have the makings of a varsity athlete..
Quite possibly the mixture of the two got him.
Tony needs to slow down and taste his food. That's the first step towards not eating a bad mussel.😉
A piece of shellfish doesn’t make it in to Vesuvios unless hand picked by Artie personally
Ghee can keep at room temperature for a month because its clarified butter, its the mussels
Stress alone can cause what Tony had it also can make your body less able to deal with what might have been minor issues. Also even if spices killed bacteria (doc didn't test anyway) that does not mean the spices didn't cause you to be ill. Find someone with ibs or chrones and feed them things which inflame their condition, they will be as bad or worse than tony. Sal only had a touch of diarrhea and was fast asleep having split the muscles with Tony.
WHO ATE THE LAST PIECE OF CAKE?
“That is SO racist!!” Says Meadow for absolutely no reason. She would have fit in well in 2022
It was the seafood. He was fine all until that point. His dreams are about a fish (seafood)
His dream were about a fish because they dumped pussy in the ocean with the fishies
You know Kino once your sopranos recap series were done I thought I was out of my addicted binging...then you put out something like this AND YOU PULL ME BACK IN!!!
Hi Kino can you do a video breaking down the scene where Carmela visits the no nonsense shrink? There’s so much to divulge and I honestly would love to hear a breakdown of the meaning when the guy says to “visit any shopping mall or ethnic pride parade” to see what psychiatry has become. Thanks again for all you do this channel is amazing!!!!
I feel like this lends some weight to his singing the Gilligan's Island theme song on the bathroom floor. He's shipwrecked on the island of having to accept the reality of what Puss has done
Zupa Da Muscles....if anyone has eaten Muscles on regular occassions you know you take the risk......not saying anything towards Arty, but you get a bad muscle and you will know about it!
Feeding Tony is like having an elephant, he'll keep eating and eating, and eventually he'll sh*t all over you.

You should do everything I missed pt2
3:52 I wish more people would mention this. It should also be noted that the profound moral of the story that you think is so earth shattering and deep is also something literally placed into the plot to make you think a certain way. And it’s more powerful if you think you came up with it, Instead of the writer ir director just putting their intended message up on the screen
As someone who has suffered from food poisoning I will only say that it was one of the worst moments of my life... shivering and laying in the shower covered in my own shit and vomit whilst having one of the highest fevers I ever had...

Also I never trust asians with my food.
It was the squid ink pasta. WRA-A-A-A-AGH!!!
You're right about that.
On my initial viewing of this episode, I knew it wasn't food poisoning. I grew up with undiagnosed anxiety and always attributed my upset stomach as this or that. Once diagnosed I understood my stomach issues were casued by anxiety.
I've watched this one, the one about the animals and the one about Tony and Artie friendship. Brilliant observation and logic.
I got sick as hell from mussels in Toronto years ago…probably food poison, so I stayed in bed the whole trip. 😢
