Justin, you said in the video that the arms get to full extension well after contact. This is not really what you would want to happen. The bat is traveling at its maximum speed right before the full extension of the arms and wrists. The goal would be to make contact with the ball as close to the timing of the full extension as possible. This rarely happens because to time this up perfectly is so incredibly difficult. However, knowing that that is the goal, it helps to better understand how the body is supposed to be working to gain maximum efficiency in creating bat speed. Dig into this more for yourself and I believe that you will agree. Think of it like you were driving a nail into a board with a hammer. The most force (a function of speed and mass) is delivered by the head of the hammer right as the arm completely unfolds and the wrist unhinges. The baseball bat works the same way. When you realize the importance of this concept in the swing, it really makes you a far better hitter and even helps in understanding how to create power and bat speed hitting the ball to all parts of the field including the opposite field. Take care Justin.
Looking back at this video 9 months later: I feel my disconnected was caused by a misunderstanding/not understanding how the arms turn the barrel properly. Also not activating scapular/back/obliques/core when hitting can cause disconnection too. Or not keeping your chest over your feet. Or having your weight go to far back then forward. Or excessive head movement OR having a back starting position
Being 'connected' is the best tip I have ever gotten and it dramatically improved my hitting. If I ever get to coach a team of youngsters that would be my first lesson.
My son had his first Little League practice and he was leaking/casting his swing. We watched your video together and then when to the field to practice what you had shown us! Thanks Coach Justin, he is now hitting right center bombs consistently!
Hey coach I'm having problems at the plate right now I hit tons of foul balls but I'm struggling to hit line drives can you give me any good tips on hitting less foul balls?
Needed this bigtime thank you Justin! But in the launch position is the front shoulder tight and tilted down or just square and loose since you say loose muscles are the most efficient and explosive muscles ?
In a tennis service, it seems to be different where you use your legs, body shoulders to yank your arm, and wrist to create a whip like motion with pronation where you essentially fling the racquet with your hands at maximum speed. In a baseball swing, by keeping it centered, it seems to focus more on torque, rather than swing speed. Is this due to a hard ball being directed at the bat rather than a soft tennis ball being thrown up in the air? I wonder what are the physics behind all of this.
I really like this video. What's a good drill or drills for seeing the ball and finishing with eyes on the plate area? Seems to be what I struggle with my players the most.
Hey Justin great video!! My son is 5 yrs old and has played tee ball for two years now. He has developed the arm bar in his swing which causes him to have a long swing. I've tried a lot of drills but still haven't been able to shake it. I don't know what to do and its stressful because I want to enjoy the game but also have some success in it as well at a young age. What should I do? Some feedback and advice would help please.
Watch this video and you’ll find the greatest hitter ever extended at contact ruclips.net/video/_pKkEky2i7k/видео.html 6’3 190 pounds... he does extend but it happens through contact not at contact.

Your swing on the video being disconnected looked exactly like mine.

Nice vid Justin, do you know any training equipment for arm accuracy? For the middle infield?
Nick Remo don’t suck, it’s middle infield
Why not demonstrate the Cano drill?

Pretty sure Griffey had an arm bar
Arm bars aren’t always a bad thing. It can add power.
Nice video coach justin after all your videos I do every drill from those videos keep it up
Man this dude is Amazin . Wish I had RUclips years ago .
You can also practice hiding your barrel during a check swing because it can work on staying connected.
you look so comfortable in the stance and stride it blows me away!

How do I stay compact do u have tips with that ?
My coach wants me to extend my elbow because it has “more power” but I agree with you I don’t feel strong and my bat speed is low

Thx u coach Justin
Chuck Knoblauch had that launch position too.
I wonder if these techniques would work on sword fighting

Even when he does things the "wrong" way, it doesn't look very off to me, I've a long way on hitting.
alot of children try and throw the barrel at the ball, throw the knob at the ball.
Wow My dream is to be a Major League Baseball player
You can, and actually if you're american you have way more chances than I do. Hahah
