I like that you actually tell us what you're doing and how you're adding in the colors. I have not had good luck trying to find actual tutorial videos that explain rather than play music while they talk about their other videos while we watch them draw. I was getting extremely frustrated before I saw your video. Thank you for teaching us!
I just discovered oil pastels today, as I was trying to figure out what the chunky colors were in my colored pencil, watercolors, and oil pastel kit. Your video is quite informative and demonstrates how easy it is to work with this medium. Thanks for sharing it with us.
I used tissue paper to spread the colors and when I watched this video, my knowledge in using oil pastel added and I can use this techniques in every art activity. I SUBSCRIBED! :))
Thanks a lot for your nice videos. I can finally enhance my skills in art. I also love painting, drawing, and coloring using pastels. I never knew pastels can also be used in canvass. I can now train myself for the coming art contests.
Just a little FYI using the color complementary color for shadows makes it pop even more like use green for shadows on red objects red for green objects etc
I bought a faber castell oil pastel and its so hard to blend! :( is oil pastel suppose to be hard? urs and other ppl on youtbe's oil pastel looks so easy to blend tho. please helps me
Wheee! Oil Pastels! I don't know that I used the proper technique, but check out my Oil Pastel time lapse and let me know what you think. Pears all the way!
@nightviola you probably are using student-quality pastels. They tend to be waxier and cheaper feeling. If you can spend the extra money, you can get higher quality pastels that are easier to blend :D
Oh and i also forgot, dont blend with the pastels themselves, even tho thats wat she did. get a blender, a blender for pastels is this newspapery stick that is sold at art stores and they are for blending oil pastels
o thank goodness I thought I just could only do black and white. Turns out everything you do in Oil Pastel looks like a 5 year old did it. I need a new medium Prisma perhaps?
lol you have read it should be acid free? ALL art paper should be acid free. it doesnt matter what type of art you do. If your paper isn't acid free, it will yellow. You should buy your paper from an art shop. In the artist section. Basically all the paper there is acid free. Printer paper isn't acid free. It will eat itself. For pastels and oil pastels, you'll want some tooth. Pastel paper, or charcoal paper is good too. U can also make tooth by laying down paint/gesso, let dry, then sand.
I think you probably don't have very good pastels. Also make sure their oil pastels not soft pastels. And also remember this , Art is amazing, And to make amazing things you should spend some money to get the best quality. Look at the brands and see if their a good brand. One good brand is artist's loft. Don't spend like 5$ on them spend some money. Not like 50$ tho (unless you wanted to) but like for mine i spend about 13$
could you please next time first draw then colour !because I am not that good at drawing please!though out its really nice ! but i had i problem with drawing !

Wow...u make things so simple.
I used tissue paper to spread the colors and when I watched this video, my knowledge in using oil pastel added and I can use this techniques in every art activity. I SUBSCRIBED! :))
So that's how it's done! I used to colour the whole thing and then blend.
Thanks a lot for your nice videos. I can finally enhance my skills in art. I also love painting, drawing, and coloring using pastels. I never knew pastels can also be used in canvass.

Oh hai there, which paper is more recomended for painting with oil pastels?
what kinda oil pastel did you use? how did you blend the color that easy? i tried by using my fingers but it's like crayon, very hard to blend.
Just a little FYI using the color complementary color for shadows makes it pop even more like use green for shadows on red objects red for green objects etc

@LEMONTREE94 same, not sure about the highlights.
@LEMONTREE94 it's not bad, the saturated light blended nicely with the figure.
your pastels are sharpen but mine are blunt they spread on my whole sheet how can I avoid them by coming outside
@nightviola you probably are using student-quality pastels. They tend to be waxier and cheaper feeling. If you can spend the extra money, you can get higher quality pastels that are easier to blend :D
Too easy :) wow. Love new ideas.
Folks, Sheila can teach! :)
What kind of pastels are those
they might be too cold or hard. if you rub them between your hands to melt them alittle bit that should help.
my favorite is watercolor paper, or colored pastel paper/board.
What paper is she coloring on?
Awesome Good Video!
charcoal, watercolor, or any acid free paper with a medium tooth.
Oh, no I was talking about Sennelier, Nupastels and Holbiens, usually these are the artist grade standard brands.
awesome! :) thanks that definitely helps!
this helps me alot
cool!
is oil pastel hard.
like this!
Not with pencils though, the color will get "dirty". So this method can't be applied to me because I always use pencils when drawing.
Nice lessons
For the ones who have been asking which oil pastels they are,
- It's from the brand senneliner. Really great pastels.
mine dont work like that yours are softer
ur good!
oh these are far from crayons at almost $5 a piece, they are the most sophisticated, best artist medium available in many professional's opinions.
Oh and i also forgot, dont blend with the pastels themselves, even tho thats wat she did. get a blender, a blender for pastels is this newspapery stick that is sold at art stores and they are for blending oil pastels
@agigitygoo123 don't apply it so hard so you can blend the colors
super
wow i can't believe they are so expensive where you live, I can get 24 pieces, not the best quality, but pretty good for about 12$
It's like crayons for grown ups ^_^
wow
Thank youuuu! :D
bands will make her dance
T.T urgh.. mine ended up looking more like an avocado and a stepped on tomato. :c well.. it's something I guess..
