I've been ready to retire since my early 50's, as I've saved/planned for this since my very first job out of college. Early retirement at 59 has been great and my younger wife is also looking fwd to early retirement so we can enjoy our time together !!
I like the shift from focus on the financial worries and planning to the reality of what life can be like after retirement--that is the goal, isn't it? With the finances out of the way, it's all about opportunity, choice, possibilities. It's also the freedom to do nothing.
Great interview! I agree with Chris that the body stress from working for 45 years was something I was amazed to let go of. My body carried it for several months post retirement and when it finally let go, I was able to get my enthusiasm back to try new things. I’m 8 months into retirement and this summer has been wonderful, the first time I’ve experienced this season without major work deadlines sucking all my mental energy. I just signed up for an adult learning art class series at the local college for this fall. Planning my first retirement trip for a week in Maui in December. Signed up for volunteering at local food share. haven’t heard from my work colleagues. 😆
Love this new series James! It's great to hear from others on how they are moving thru the transition to retirement. I have been retired close to 3 years and getting ready to try something new by renting an RV and trying out that lifestyle.
Thanks for sharing your experience, Chris! James, you ask insightful questions. The "What To" is what is currently preventing me from an early employment exit.

Loving this podcast, James! I love the perspective of recent retirees!!
Thanks James and Chris! This interview gave me a great deal to think about as I am anywhere between 1 and 3 years before I finally decide to retire!
Great interview & commentary! Two thumbs up!

Odd that the hardest part of life is trying to figure out what to retire into (well for me anyway)

Good new series. Thanks
Thanks James for another great video!
This too shall pass
It's the end of a chapter, not the end of a life. So how do we start a new chapter, even if it's only one paragraph before a new chapter?
If you need goals, you should not have retired.
