    What we will learn?

    What is an “Apostrophe”.
How to change a Noun into a Possessive Noun.
    Singular & Plural Possessive Nouns.
    Difference between It’s and Its.
    Points to Remember.
    What is a Possessive Noun?
    Possessive nouns show ownership.
A possessive form of nouns shows - something belongs to someone.
These nouns are used with a Person and An Animal only and not with Things.
It is formed by adding an apostrophe +s to the noun.
    Examples-
    Ram’s hair
    Riya’s book
    Dog’s bone
    Singular Possessive Nouns
Here (’)+s is added to the singular words.
    Examples:
    1. My Cat’s bowl
    2. Hina’s pencil
If a singular word ends in s, it is still necessary to add 's.
    Examples:
    1. Bus’s tires
    2. Charles’s notebook
    Plural Possessive Nouns
Here ’+s is added to plural words.
While dealing with the plural possessives, only apostrophe (’) is added at the end of the word. We do not add ‘s’ again at the last.
    Examples:
    1. Dogs’ collar
    2. Cars’ seat
Plural possessives that don't end in s add 's.
    Examples:
    1. Children’s homework
    2. Fish’s water
    It’s vs Its
    It’s
    It’s means- IT IS
    It doesn’t show ownership.
    Example-
    1. It is/It’s Lily flower.
    2. It is Rahul’s Pen.
    Its
    Its represents Ownership.
Its doesn't have an apostrophe when it is used as a possessive.
    Example-
    1. This frog is too small for its aquarium.
    2. The plant is in its pot.
    Points to Remember :
If two people own something together we use apostrophe + s after the second person only.
    Example-
    1. John and Mary’s House.
    2. Riya and Ram’s Dog.
If two people owns two separate things we use apostrophe + s after both the Names separately.
    Example-
    1. The Dog’s and the Cat’s height are different.
    2. Ritu’s and Tina’s nails are painted with beautiful colours.
