  • This is 5 months update. The fish are called Sparkling or Pygmy gourami.
    How to hatch brine shrimp: It’s very straight forward. I used lukewarm tap water. No water conditioner. Cheap sea salt - same as aquarium salt. The brine shrimp lasted around 3~4 days in the plastic bottle after they hatched. The temperature in the tank was around 27°C or 81°F. I did stir the floating eggs a few times after setting it up.
    How to culture infusoria: I used water from this planted tank. I siphoned water around the plants and around the gravel to catch some infusoria. I boiled the fresh spinach for around 10 minutes until the leaves were completely soft. I did this so that the bacteria would break it down much easier and quicker. You can use other veggies like lettuce or cabbage. I also added an algae wafer. But it seemed like it’s not completely necessary. Just after 24 hours of setting this up, the water had become cloudy white. That meant the bacteria bloom had occurred. Infusoria eats bacteria. This thing later did stink, though. It took around 6 days for the enough infusoria to colonize for me to use it.
    About the baby pygmy gouramis:
    In hindsight, I should’ve moved the babies to their own tank in the beginning.
    But I didn’t want the pair to keep breeding.
    In hindsight, I should’ve removed the parents earlier.
    In hindsight, I should’ve made infusoria first.
    In hindsight, I should’ve known an Amano might get to the fry, allegedly.
    I think some were eaten by the parents, then lack of food, then the amano, all contributed to the dwindling numbers. I didn’t know there were less of them. I always thought some were hiding in the thick foliage.
    The ones that survived are all different in size. Several are big and healthy, and there’s one that looks exactly the same size as a month ago! That one only eats infusoria, still. But all of them are doing well.
    I’m still feeding TetraMin Baby every day hoping they would eat it one day. The uneaten food is used up by the shrimp.

    Many of you are asking the same question. There are 2 Amanos, and a few wild shrimp in the tank. The wild shrimp are breeding. There's actually one adult female wild shrimp in the tank. This is her second time carrying eggs.

    • @mrmousecat
      @mrmousecat 6 лет назад +18

      Foo the Flowerhorn sorry for my ignorant question but does the shrimps eat any of the baby fishes?

      I for real really like your videos... but i have a question. You see, i have started an aquarium and i'm very rookie, so one of the plants was contamined with planaria, so now i have them. The tank doesn't have fish yet, but i was thinking about putting neon tetra and otocinclus. Any advice to get rid of these ugly worms (they are like 6mm long)? I really want to put shrimps but i can't because of them, they already killed my only little snail...

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 лет назад +72

      mrmousecat I don't know about all shrimp, but amanos are little gangsters. they're opportunistic and can get pretty aggressive. if they can catch one, they'll eat it. the wild shrimp in this tank are very docile, though.

    • @FootheFlowerhorn
      @FootheFlowerhorn  6 лет назад +35

      there are planaria medicine readily available. from top of my head, "no-planaria" or fenbendazole will work.

      Is wild shrimp a term you are using for a shrimp you collected in the wild or a more general term for shrimp that you purchased that were not identified?

      A lot of other channel owners are trying to be celebrities so it becomes more about them than the subject matter. One beautiful channel, which does have narration, is AntsCanada, Like this channel, it's the saga of what goes on with the lives in the tanks - except with the colonies of ants he keeps.

    What light are you using for the tank? I'm loving your plant growth and I'm jealous how fast it grows in comparison to mine!

    Just found this channel and story. I love it! They’re the most interesting relaxation videos I’ve ever watched, or maybe the most relaxing educational ones. Just beautifully captured and captioned, lovely music, obvious passion for this careful, meticulous labor of love. Bravo!

    It’s 5 am and I’m so content just watching these videos! They work better than my anxiety medicine does sometimes! It’s just so peaceful watch this little world that you created! I have a very spoiled betta fish but due to my own laziness I refused to try a planted tank but you’re making me second guess that lol. His tank is bare bottom atm but I’m really thinking about just getting even a potted aquarium plant to go in there. Idk how long they last in those sinking pots but I kinda wanna find out lol

    I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS UPDATE!! Thank you for your videos (which I should say so inspiring). I plan to start up the same concept as soon as I get all similar stuff you have, and follow all instructions in your first vid.
    Good luck with your fry! Hope they'll all grow so it'll be a happy nursing tank. 💜
