Thank you for posting this! I'll always remember the true story that Walt Disney so loved the song "Feed the Birds" that he asked Robert and Richard Sherman to stop by his office at least once a week to sing it for him. Walt cried a lot when he heard that song. So do I.
Love it. Thank you for posting it. I am so sorry I haven’t had the chance to see it live in a theater, but this posting filled my heart as if I were there. Beautiful productions. Excellent cast
I have to say this is my most favorite play of Marry Poppins the actors and actresses were amazing and I swear the woman who played Marry Poppins could be Julie Andrews twin I don’t know why but she reminds me so much of how Julie Andrews played Marry Poppins I don’t know how many times I have watched this production I have honestly lost count
@@SteveRostronChoreography i know I am three days late at responding but You are so very welcome I always enjoy watching this production of Marry Poppins 😀
Jane Darwell played the old bird lady in the film. Walt Disney wanted her explicitly so he had her brought to the set from an actor’s old age home where she lived out her final years.
Bravo to all involved, a lovely and well produced production. But -- as I felt when I saw it on Broadway -- the new songs pale considerably to the originals written by the Sherman Brothers, and a few are downright clunkers. And the unnecessary plot changes, oy. All the more kudos to this company for rising above the challenges the additions/changes present and making them tolerable, and in fact seem to work better here than in New York. Well done!
Your opinion, what are some of the unnecessary changes (I was in the orchestra for a production of this, and while I agree some of the songs are direct downgrades and some are unwelcome, I really like some of the new songs)?
Great production! My son’s drama club is doing this production this fall I’m tasked to help with props! It’s helpful to see what you did. How did you do the light sticks?
This was a great production, but I was very disappointed that Bert didn't walk upside-down on the proscenium during the "Step In Time" number. This is the first major production I've seen that didn't include that feature, which is always a highlight of the show for me!
Hey, PLOS are an amateur/community production, so whilst it's big- it's not actually a major production- I hope that makes you feel a little less disappointed!
A really amazing production! To me there´s only one flaw in it. I´ve seen many professional productions make the same mistake; The tap number "Step in Time" is ruined by all the shouting and cheering during the tap choreography. Why? Especially at 01.54:00 . Dancers tapping their hearts out with maxi fords and then the sounds drown in singing and cheering. What a pity.
I was surprised to learn some years ago that the big tap numbers on Broadway were always augmented by taps produced in the pit. While big stars like Ann Miller and Ruby Keeler were indeed tapping away on stage, the tappings we heard out front were orchestrated.
@@johnfarrell9681 I wouldn´t know if that is true. I was never on a Broadway show. I do know that with the right sound system and a few good tapdancers, it wouldn´t be necessary. I did see a tour production of 42nd Street once with maybe 25 - 30 dancers on stage. At least 10 or so of them couldn´t really tap but were good enough dancers to mimick the movements. The rest made up for it though. Back to this wonderful production; It was maybe a bit of nitpicking about a minor detail by a tap freak like me. ;-) All in all a really enjoyable show!
the chorus seems really weak vocally in some parts i love the background choreo for a lot of the chorus the two kids were exceptional !!! along with Mary Poppins and Brett just something about these songs that just make me well up what the hell was that noise at 1:39:18
This completely lacks the charm of the original film. One of the main issues is that the children are downright nasty, and Katie Nana has good reason not to want to stay. In the original film, Jane and Michael come across as innocent victims of circumstance (despite their descriptions of what they do to nannies), while it's quite obvious that Katie Nana is an odious, obnoxious person that should never come within 10 feet of a child.
Isn't that the beauty of creative freedom though? The ability to take a story and interpret it Ina way to stay true to the author but perhaps perform it in a different light. Just like the freedom to have our own opinions.
@@SteveRostronChoreography Not so sure it's "beautiful" to use creative freedom to take something that has charmed and warmed the hearts of generations of people, and turn it into a pile of crap because you obviously have no understanding of the source material.
The musical is based on the books as well as the movie. The original characters in the books are nothing like the film. In fact, Travers hated the film for that reason. The children are portrayed much more as the book version. Since the books are the source for the movie, they are the actual source material.
Alas, Americans have gotten out of the live theater habit, which used to be prevalent in this country. And when they occasionally do see a live show, the only tools they have to appreciate it is the ones they pick up from watching movies.

Mary Poppins one my all time films, saw it in the 1960’s many times. But this felt very stagey, sorry for the negative but not for me.
I’m going to take a guess that it seems “stagey” because it’s not a movie but a stage production.

The film with Julie Andrews is a 1000 times better. They used the stage here not in a modern way, looks unfortunately more like low budget production.

Alas, Americans have gotten out of the live theater habit, which used to be prevalent in this country. And when they occasionally do see a live show, the only tools they have to appreciate it is the ones they pick up from watching movies.
