Great video! Figuring out the starting technique for a 44 is half the fun!

Nice video and like the pic in pic and flight info. If I did that same method to start engine in my R44 Raven II then I would flood my engine. I don’t use any prime and put mixture on full rich and hit start button. Sometimes I’ll give a very quick snap of prime if it has sat for a while or when super cold. The magnetos use different timing for start up than when running so key to listen for first ignition and get off starter right away to get out of the start mode. If you have a hard time starting all the time then have the points checked on magnetos which is supposed to happen every 500 hours. This service check makes a big difference or at least it did on my ship.

Type ratings are these machines 12,500 lbs? Just like Japan a foolish government full of regulations . . .Too much prime

It’s a European thing for helicopters , all need a type rating , irrespective of size, unlike the American system. Interesting enough , in Europe, fixed wing planes below a certain size all come under the same ‘single engine piston’ category, be it a Cessna 150 , a 172 or a Piper PA28 etc

In the 80s Hiser banked on Japan & Canada as the type rating systems were crazy.
Lots of $ made. But it hampered pilots to get work... Flown everything under 12.5 and turbine even test flew experimental - Long line - South America was all restricted air space as in China... Fun years 45+@@ABHelicopters

@@HongyaMa that sounds a fascinating career! You should right a book? What’s been your favourite light helicopter to fly ? Thanks for the replies !

The Angel Ch 7 was the most fun after the Sikorsky S 58, I built my own too.
