Thanks for the video! I've been doing mosaics for 10 years and not too many GOGs.. but learned something new today - you don't have to "butter" your whole large piece with glue!! This way you don't have to wait and wait and wait for the adhesive to dry. Brilliant!
Thank you. I am a first timer to this stained glass mosaic. Dont know anything on it, but you have shared wonderful information which have inspired me to try my hands. Thank you for sharing and I will certainly will be viewing all your videos and posting to learn from you. Thank you. What is a good brand of tools to purchase and what type of tools and material sites to purchase online from eg Amazon. Thank you for sharing.
thank you for sharing this video. l was wondering how you finish the back of the frame, especially if your glass that is not a clear color. The glass is solid not translucent/clear color. l liked the tip you shared about making sure you put glue around the edge of the glass to prevent grout bleed. l look forward to more of your videos when have time to make them. Also ty for sharing the glue you use.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I am researching my first GOG mosaic to do with my daughter. I want us to be successful and the tip of supporting the glass, tape placement, and pre drilling the hangers are helpful. I dont think we will be using grout for our first project.
Great video! I'm just learning gog. So if using larger pieces of glass, you put the glue just around the edges (to eliminate grout bleed), not spread the glue edge to edge across the whole back of the piece you're gluing? And will Mac glue dry transparent enough that you won't see the glue at all? I was looking at some pieces and although the glue had dried "clear" you could still see it in the light... thank you!
the glue has two jobs: holds the glass in place and seals the edges so grout cannot get underneath. Yes, even though the glue dries clear you will still see the texture of it. The only way to avoid that is to cover the entire piece in glue and press out all the bubbles. As the piece dries, you will need to come back often to press out any air bubbles and clean the edges....but then you have to wait for all the glue to completely dry. It's a struggle!
Great tips..thank you! I don't have MAC glue. I have Liquid Nails and Clear Gorilla Glue. I'm hoping that works. I'm doing a mosaic window for the first time...hoping it turns out..what is the best grout to get? And do you put glue where the grout will be? I'm wondering if something needs before putting grout..
I try to let the glue squeeze out enough to keep the grout from seeping under the glass. I always use sanded grout...I've never been particular about the brand. You can search for w+el+dbond wash as a precursor to grouting. I've heard that works really well to keep the grout out. I've never done that technique. Let me know how it turns out!
New subscriber here. Do you have a video on grouting? I got into mosaics a couple years ago, and basically gave up because I could not grout for the life of me! I do work with resin and I may try this with resin, but I love the look of grout. Thanks so much!
Grouting can be a bugger. I find the dryer the grout, the better. The next time I grout I will video it. Look up Sue Smith Glass Mosaics on YT channel and look for her grouting. She's excellent!
Lisa, I'm newto mosaics and recently made a GOG votive of candle. After watching several videos I used weld bond glue and followed all suggestions as far as a weld bond wash when I was finished let it dry completely but still ended up with grout bleed. What else can I do to avoid this problem in the future?
Hi. Thank you for the video. Where on earth did you find the MAC glue for $7.99? I hope it's still available wherever you found it because even with shipping, it would be less than anything I can find.
If Kory Dollar's equivalent glue is not available, then I would use Weldbond for interior pieces. I do not have experience with pieces set for outside.
You could probably make a wash out of Elmers glue if you wanted to prevent grout bleed. I have never done that, but I bet you could find info on either YT or FB
@mexipatti I have never used it so if you wanted to, I would suggest you do a small piece to test adhesives. Please post your results if you run a test. Very interesting concept!
Yes, but it's permanent. If you do it on a piece of glass and mount it in front of the window, you have options of removing. It is possible, but I would not recommend.
Weldbond is my second go to gog glue. You just have to be mindful that it takes a while to dry. I had a piece that I went way too much on and literally I put it in my HOT Arizona car for almost 6 months before it dried. Lessons learned!
It looks like MAC glue is no longer available. Try contacting Kory Dollar for her equivalent. Here's her website marvelousmosaic.com/product/glass-glue-mosaic/

wish I'd have known that before I did my first glass mosaic. It took months to dry thoroughly.
Thank you for sharing. Very helpful instructions.

When i do GOG with resin… I use clear silicone (boat silicone) instead of e6000. I also pull the tabs out with pliers

@@stansburyartstudio1662 Thanks! I will!
have you used well bond glue?

Where do you purchase your Mac glue? I live in TN I am having trouble finding it!

I have heard of some people applying 2 or 3 layers of wash. I'm sorry that happened. I deplore grout bleed!

Kory is a great mosaic artist.
@@reneeo4435 extremely great artist!
where do you buy mac glue in Arizona. It is soooo expensive on amazon.
How can you be sure your glued on glass will be level with the frame?
it's a film of glue with 3mm of glass. My frames generally give me a half an inch to work with
With regards to my question to avoid grout bleed Mac glue is not available near me.
You could probably make a wash out of Elmers glue if you wanted to prevent grout bleed. I have never done that, but I bet you could find info on either YT or FB
could you use plexi glass .
@mexipatti I have never used it so if you wanted to, I would suggest you do a small piece to test adhesives. Please post your results if you run a test. Very interesting concept!
Where abouts in Arizona? I'm in Tucson.
Nice! I'm near Ft. Huachuca
I am in Sun City West, west of Phoenix. Do you have classes or weekend retreats? Diana
I'm no longer teaching, but there are some wonderful youtube videos available.
Where do you get that glue?
💕
Is it possible to do a mosaic (using small pieces, mixed) on a window that is already in place that surrounds front door?
Yes, but it's permanent. If you do it on a piece of glass and mount it in front of the window, you have options of removing. It is possible, but I would not recommend.
plus you'll having issues waiting for the glue to dry.
