The best value/Tool I’ve found on Amazon for the sawmill

Bought that headlamp last week & absolutely love it. Can't beat the price for what you get. I'm in a wheelchair, & this is what I've been needing for my nighttime forays.
Gonna do the Titles thing for my cousin & me next payday as a Christmas present.
2- 600 lumen USB rechargeable Milwaukee headlamps at HD for $99 right now. A chainsaw/sawmill must have in winter..
Nathan, I have been watching your videos for quite a while and truly enjoy them. But it dawned on me that I had never thanked you for all of your efforts. I know that the filming thing really eats up time. I have noticed the videos have gotten better and better with your creativity and equipment quality. So Nathan, just thank you for taking us along. You have not only provided enjoyable viewing but have also encouraged me in my own sawing operation. God bless you brother.
I appreciate that!
Hear! Hear! I’m especially grateful for the interesting shots with camera set in unusual places. It’s fun to see parts of the mill working “close up”!
What if you put a tarp down where the sawdust collects? Then just drag it outside. That's what I usually do when digging a gas line up. When it comes time to back fill you don't have to worry about dirt in the grass. I'm a plumber who juggles and lock picks and stuff, no idea why but I really like your stuff.
Watching you saw after Ive sawed all day driving me nuts. I still watch
Lord Nathan from Lord Richard, I am happy for you that Established Titles will be sponsoring your next 25 videos. You do an excellent job of filming, editing, and publishing.
It is NOT a good company.
Sawdust mixed with a small amount of diesel fuel, then stored in an old plastic canister or coffee can makes a dandy fire starter. A spoonful with some kindling makes a great start for your backlog
This was a great old school OTW video! It sure had a good relaxed feel to it.
stacking and stickering was a job for a teenager once upon a time so the kid had some pocket money. These days they want $20/hr for it. Now would not mind paying that if the kid did $20 worth of work. I was raised on a dairy farm. My dad in 1962 told me I was doing a mans job I should geta mans wage; $35/wk. He gave it to me in three tens and a five. He took one ten back and said for room and board. Took another ten and said that is for college. He then told me I had to buy my own cloths from there on in and anything else i might want. Well i took $5 put it in bank. I wanted a motorcycle. Got that motorcycle the next yr at ager 15. A 58 panhead. Still have it..
Well sounds like unless your dad was withholding income tax for you, you should have been getting even more; minimum wage was $1.15 at the time, so a man's wage for a full week's work should have been at least $46 before taxes.
@@abydosianchulac2 yes I did ay taxes Dad had me my older bro and 3 grown men working the farm. It was not a little one we milked 250 head three ties a day and 50 got milked 4 times a day. My younger bro also worked but at that time he was but 11. He got paid too but just $15/we after taxes. I first got aid for what i did on farm at age 5. I began helping my older bro feed calves. Got $0.20 a day for it. In 1953 for a 5 yr old that was a lot of money.
By the time I left to go into army I was getting $60/we in '68. It was either enlist, get drafted or go to Canada. i enlisted. Should of gone to Canada.
Adjusted for inflation that's $345/wk
Milked cows in the morning, before school. Cooked in a steak house evenings 4 nights a week. Paid cash for my first car. 59 Ford Galaxy 500 2dr hardtop.
To use up the sawdust. Build or find a pug mill of sorts. Blend the saw dust with water and wallpaper paste. Compress with a hydraulic pump into starter logs for fire places.
The pine tree is one of the most valuable trees we have which deserves more appreciation from the wood world. Native to the U.S. Southeast, the loblolly pine (Pinus taeda) can grow over 100 feet (30 meters) tall and has a lengthy genome to match, with 23 billion base pairs. That's more than seven times the size of the human genome, which has 3 billion base pairs.
Unfortunately the pine forests have been brought to their knees by beetles.
Maybe nature is telling us to bring back oak savannas
Awesome, congratulations on the big 25 sponsor, ELANA THIS PINE LOGS FOR YOU...!
I use dawn dish soap for my lube all year round. Works really well. It is cheap, and unlike diesel dripping on your floor (and getting into the hydro table), it is biodegradable. Another thing you can do with your sawdust is get a firewood brick press and make artificial fire bricks, or find a guy that already has that setup and sell him the sawdust.
That white oak make some beautiful indoor window trim
Hi, Nathan. I think you should get pigs because they are awesome! We raised Tamworths for several years on our farrow to finish farm and I always enjoyed them. They are great land clearers as well.
Look into Beefalo! Super easy to manage, forage only, they're disease resistant and are 95% lean. Plus, they're super friendly.
We usually keep 30-50 chickens.
When chickens DO fall over dead.. its when it starts getting bitter cold.
If it keeps happening, treat for coccidia and parasites. But sometimes its just a weak bird.
Or they ate something they shouldnt have (free range problem) or another bird picked on them too hard and caused some internal damage (had a big rooster that is now fully digested that killed two hens before we figured out what was happening)
After your video that was sponsored by Established Titles, it solved a dilemma for me. I didn't know what to get my GF for Christmas. She has Scottish roots and the Established Title gift was perfect. Received it yesterday and I am very pleased. Enjoy your videos and look forward to them.
Have you considered garage doors for the access areas you bring logs in by tractor or front loader?
You could raise or lower them as needed for deliveries of logs and/or air flow on really hot days.
Really like your videos Nathan!
you can make your own windshield washer fluid by purchasing isopropyl alcohol at your local pharmacy. It goes on sale cheap and just mix with tap water. Add blue food coloring if you really want to see the fluid in your plastic reservoir.
Great sponsor. Thank you for the video. Hope the family and you are doing well. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Lord Nathan, got a ring to it, very nice video, didn’t know you had a new Sawmill building coming up, can’t wait to see that project, getting cold here in Michigan, I run 100% windshield washer fluid exclusively during the winter, I had one major freeze up a few years back I don’t want that to happen again
Great job Nathan, got a lot of great lumber out of that pine log. Stay safe and keep up the great videos, Fred.
Hi Nathan, congratulations on your sponsorship deal, I’m sure it takes some pressure off, loved the pine too, rather than cows or pigs what about ostrich’s, great meat, great eggs and they must have a great singing call!
How about llamas, or alpacas too?
I make a decent home made windshield washer fluid with a gallon of tap water, about 4 ounces of rubbing alcohol, and a healthy couple squirts of dish soap. For purists you can add a bit of blue food coloring if you must.
Great video thanks, and congratulations on your new sponsorship deal. I’ve kept chickens for forty years now Nathan and unfortunately that’s what they do healthy one day a bit off the next and dead the day after. That’s why we should never name them, we become too attached to them. Anyway mate good luck with all the videos you’ll be working on.
That’s a heck of a tree. WOW 😮 😅❤🤷♀️🇬🇧🏴🇬🇧
Great video Nathan. You’re cutting some nice lumber. It really looks good. 👍❤️
Thanks 👍
The partnership sound like a very good fit. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Another really nice episode of milling some logs and info on the farms future changes.
Ya got a nice source for eggs next up home grown beef to stock your freezer.
I myself love the look and smell of pine wood.
Knotty pine for furniture, floors and other items.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
Always find your work fascinating. The new OTW graphic is especially sharp.
Much appreciated!
🎆🎇🎆🎇🎊🎉 Congrats Nathan. John here, from the back-roads of Northeastern Tennessee.
Sorry I'm late...been a busy day (and a sad one for one our of Hospice families).---I loved the stack 'em & sticker 'em, & wondered if that goat got his head out!---Cows, are you sure!---What do you do with all those eggs...sell 'em?---Oak, ho-hum. But look at the humdinger of a pine tree! I'm waiting for my knot close-ups! (XOXO!)---I'm getting closer to thinking about adding my 14 y/o Granddaughter, named London, to the registry for Christmas, her tree should last a long, long time. Maybe even her 7 y/o Sister named Quinn. I'll see next time 'round.
Not a 100% sure but something told me you where the Alana Nathan was talking about. I always recognize you on the comments of all the similar interest channels we seem to share, and they are many. You are a good person to do the things you do, God Bless, Tommy
Wish I had smell a vision around that saw mill.
“Sometimes chickens just fall over dead!……..”That is one golden nugget of wisdom right there my friend!…..lol…. I need that T-shirt! Lol
I like that pine log. Wish you had a whole bunch more of them.
If you have a double fence on a property line, the fence closest to you is your fence, and it is possible there was a woven wire fence that stopped, it is possible woven wire went to the bottom and was bad, so the neighbor put up the barb wire fence, the the bad woven wire was later removed.
Talk to your neighbor before removing the barb wire, it will save you head aches if it is the property line.
This the first time I notice this so I'm not sure if it's me or the mill but the mill seem to be moving when the head was going back to front. It looks like the mill was sinking a bit when the head was brought forward. Might want to check the leveling feet. Not sure if this is normal or not but I would think the mill should move like that. Looking forward to those 25 videos - don't burn yourself out.
If you're thinking about a new mill shed, I highly recommend openings 2' wider then longest logs you mill. In feed side with a level deck that you can simply cant hook logs on mill. As you cut you can sticker pile as you mill on out feed side. Way more efficient use of time. About the time you need to fork stacked pile out, you can then pull sawdust out with your bucket.
Your lungs will like the more open shed that allows the exhaust to escape as well..
The other advantage to stickering as you mill, is we know what happens to boards in warm humid weather if piles don't get stickered ASAP..
Over 30 years milling on Mizer & stopped using fluid in winter 25 years ago.. Have a Gatorade bottle of diesel/expired olive oil with a pinhole in cap to hit blade once in a while if white/red pine pitch builds up. Also, slightly heavier kerf to prevent blade heat build up..
Not to be a ‘bummer here’. Love your work Nathan.
That said, I’ve heard that Scottish plot seller is having some legal issue
Thanks for the share Nathan. Makes me feel like I'm in my shop. Im from just outside of Buffalo and the only sawdust were shoveling comes from the sky and stacks in big white piles. Congrats on the sponsorship. I'm going to check them out and your Patreon.
Use water and pinesol cleaner with a bit of dawn soap. And at end of day pump windshield washer fluid into system. That 1 jug of washer fluid will last you weeks. Tank the lube tank into the garage at the house. In Irish and cheap thats what i do on the New LT-50. Works great and cheap cheap.
Another great video Nathan. Thanks for sharing. Congratulations on your new sponsor
Thanks 👍
Congratulations on the new sponsorship Nathan! Glad it’ll work out for everyone involved and hopefully nobody gives you grief this go round! 😂 Looking forward to the new videos and by the sounds of it, it’ll allow you to build up some inventory that in the end can goto filling out orders too! Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family 😎👍🏼
Thanks! Always enjoy you operate that fine sawmill.
You bet
Excellent progress .You ingenuity has created some wonderful opportunities for you ,And us viewers .Keep up the Great job you are doing .Hard work brings Great Rewards .Be well and God Bless
Anti-freeze has to be made of propalyne Glycol to be safe for environment and won't kill your cats.
Nothing wrong with them sponsoring you. It seems like win win Love 💖 🤷♀️🇬🇧🇬🇧💖
Question have you thought about making sawdust logs to sell for wood fired stoves and fires?
When you replace your chickens, think Austalorpe. They lay an egg a day practically the year round.
Nathan, a suggestion if I may that might save you some time. Instead of loading the lumber onto the forks, then taking it down to the pallets, offloading and stickering it, why not have your pallets and stickers near the sawmill (or bring them up when you’re ready for them)? That way you can stack and sticker the lumber straight from the sawmill onto the pallet then take it to the kiln or somewhere to sit until kiln ready. It would save you the trouble of moving the lumber twice. Just a thought…. I really appreciate the time you take with the videos. It shows in the quality of your editing and the music you use.
I am glad you like stacking the lumber, nothing looks nicer than a perfectly stickered and stacked stack of timber. I even love stakcing firewood perfectly... i have always wanted to try stacking firewood into Norwegian rounds ... have you ever tried that?
I live in Arkansas. The picture on the bottle seems to show it is made for cotton picker spindles. They raise a lot of cotton here.
Need to check into a hammer mill and pelletizer for heating pellets
I love the idea of more videos.
Great storytelling and photography. Thanks.
Thanks
Chilly here too,, RB,Nova Scotia.
good looking pine
I've always bought spindle cleaner at the john deere dealership, they are the only company around that still makes cotton pickers. They should have some as long as cotton is grown in the area.
3:32 The cats stealing the show.
Is that an 800 Tracker side by side, Would you mind giving us a little review on it? I'm actually looking at getting one because of how quiet it is.
It always blesses me when you call us friends. Love hanging out with you Nathan.
Nice edit with the blower and the tire rolling, very cool!
You should use the dust for mushroom beds
Was only 23 here in MO this AM- headed your way :-)
9:49 that was a sweet transition!
Nicely done nathen, keep up the great job. Great videos
Thanks 👍
You need to get yourself to Agway or Tractor Supply and invest in a decent aluminum grain shovel. Then you could save that snow shovel for actual snow and probably cut your saw dust shoveling time in half. Looks like more falls off the sides than stays on the pan.
Nice editing on that fade from one shot to the next.
Glad to hear that you have the sponsorship; based on your first sponsored video with Established Titles I found the perfect gift for my granddaughters. Now not only will they have the title of Lady they also actually own land. Also the trees being planted are a bonus.
Thanks for this video, I loved how the White Oak boards turned out.
ET is a sham/scam, widely exposed. It's a Hong Kong private equity firm that has probably made $50 million selling novelty items on the premise of owning tiny parcels (you don't) being a Laird/Lord (you aren't), and having their many sponsored channels mislead their loyal viewers into this being more than a completely worthless gag gift. Which it is. Worthless.
Damn fine work buddy!!
thanks you Lucas,
A cut so fine you have to remind it that it was cut.
The cheapest I have found windshield washer fluid is at Rural King stores. I believe there’s one in Bristol. Bought some about 3 weeks ago. It was a dollar per gallon less than Walmart.
Nice
Call them blister. They show up when the work is done
Best thing to do with that sawdust is to make them compressed fireplace logs out of it
Congrats on the sponsorship Lord Nathan! 👍
It would be cool if you had a way to make compressed fire logs with all of the loose sawdust. What a way to make extra income!
Awesome video my friend! I have that kind of pine in my mobile home trimmed with cedar.
Very cool!
When it comes to moving the lumber to the drying pile, have you thought about stickering it on the forks of the tractor and then just setting it on some more stickers on the pile. One less time handling it. Keep up the great work and Happy Thanksgiving to you and the family. Stay safe.
Good use for pallets.
Pallet on forks, sticker then park.
How about one of those machines that presses sawdust into bricks you can burn for heat?
Good afternoon
Have you ever done a video on making stickers? What trees do you use, size of the stickers, how to store them..
Since your hens are keeping you in good supply of eggs you should get hogs. (in my opinion) Ham and eggs, bacon and eggs.
Sounds like fun! I’m checking them out.
Great video Nathan awesome to see you getting sponsored by the greatest of country companies Scotland. Can I ask your blades you get from Joe do u resharpen them or is it use and get rid?? 🏴👍
Cheers.
You should find a way to press fire logs out of that sawdust. Having had them both ...we've decided we hate pigs and goats. Lol. We have sheep and milk cows
Perhaps you could compact the sawdust to make fire bricks?brickettes to burn or your fire , or sell !!
Thanks for the video Lord Nathan 🤣
sawdust makes a good oil dry
Lay a Tarp down under the sawdust exhaust before starting the saw mill and then at the end of the day drag the whole lot outside in one fell swoop. Less work but not much exercise,:(
Nathan, I was wrong the other day the price of diesel here in southern Ontario Canada is 2.79 / litre so you wouldn't want to use it as a lubricant.
I'm liking the longer format vids.
Reminds me of a Yule log.
Do both pigs and a couple feeder calves . If you have a dairy close you can usually get the calves cheap.
Do you still have that other log grapple??
It very well could have been just a chicken dropping dead for no real reason, but it sounds like the possibility of Marek’s disease. Was it stumbling or unable to stand? It’s a paralytic disease that starts with the legs and spreads through the body until it shuts down everything. I’ve had it take out a quarter of my flock within three days. If you see it in another chicken, I’d immediately separate them and unfortunately cull it.
It’s a feather dander that spreads through the air and can be especially bad after your flock molts.
Keep an eye out and research how to clean your coop while minimizing the spread of the dander.
I'm guessing you've probably checked around for 55 gallon drum of washer fluid?
Thanks for the extra effort in awsome video quality! Have a good Thanksgiving to you and yours.
With the radial pattern of limbs (knots), that pine log looks like it's a Norfolk Island Pine. I used to think they came from Virginia, but Norfolk Island is down near Trinadad & Tabago.
Norfolk Island is located in the South Pacific, between New Zealand and New Caledonia.
Trinidad and Tobago are in the North Atlantic off the coast of Venezuela.
@@tyrdog1 Thank you for the correction, I must have experienced a senior moment. The point was; the are NOT from Virginia.
So you don't think your sawdust would be good for pellets. I think use of bag collector you can turn dust to pellets🤠
Tie that woven wire up to the Barbed wire Fence then the Calves can’t get out and ya got a Free Fence!
Well done and I will buy three pieces of Scotland for my son and grandsons. Will the link be in the next video, unless I am too dim to have seen it in this one? Thank you, take care and God bless.
