@@michaelinterbartolo3 Right. I feel like that concept is a given and pretty obvious even to those of us who have never even been on a non-simulated cruise. It just could’ve been done in any number of ways: A people mover. A bus. A tram. A monorail. A van. A trailer. Using a box truck with it’s severely limited capacity tells me that they don’t anticipate many guests trying to use it at once. I have no inside foreknowledge concerning the planning stage of this experience, but I am curious how they control how many guests try to leave for the advertised excursion to Batuu at any given time. Are there assigned group times? Is this only available at certain times? Is the activity schedule so precise that only a dozen people will be lined up at any given time? Or is this a design flaw as a result of budget? Or does Disney believe that no one is going to want to leave a concrete building with no real windows for some fresh air at any point during their stay? It’s purely curiosity with no malice intent sparking these questions of mine.
@@thomasstanley3008 my understanding there are at least three shuttles looping between the Halcyon and Batuu. some folks grab and go breakfast, others sit down and eat, some may skip breakfast all together for a morning ronto wrap on planet. I think the Rise and Smugglers fast passes might have some sort of assigned times (not sure how lightning pass works) plus with folks making Oga and Savi reservations on their own there probably isn't a mad rush to all disembark at once as folks have their excursions somewhat planned out.
@@michaelinterbartolo3 I seriously believe that they have a garage with a spare shuttle on standby at all times in case of a sudden uptick in guests moving to/from Batuu. The guests can only see upwards at a 45 degree angle through the viewing slits on the sides so it would be easy co conceal another truck out of view.
I would assume that the lack of views into space may have to do with them not being able to control exactly how long the drive from the hotel to the park gate will take. Still, it seems a shame to not be able to see your arrival on the planet out the "windows" of the shuttle. Like a lot of elements of the Starcruiser, it makes the experience look rather claustrophobic to me. That said, as funny as it is, I do still think this looks more convincing than a themed bus would have.
An automated "window" shutter could help with timing issues... passengers don't have to see out the entire time. TBH, for the amount they're charging they should have a mini star tours built into the truck.... or at the very least a mini hogwarts express experience. The starcruiser is right next to galaxy's edge... it's not like they have to go out on regular roads and go through traffic, they could have built a track if they really wanted.
Indiana Jones ride is a completely computer controlled mobile motion control platform that has music triggered at the right times. It's not a technical issue.
That would have been trivial to deal with. You have the view outside the window and break it into sections. Then you have points along the way where each segment of the video plays. So the video shows you undocking from and leaving the Halcyon. Then it shows you pulling away. There is a point in the trip where the next segment is triggered. When you reach that point a ship flies by so close that it obscures the view and that covers the cut to the next video. That cut can happen anywhere from one minute after you leave to ten minutes after you leave. They just need to trigger the ship and the new video. Then the next segment plays and maybe the ship turns and the sun whites out the view for the next cut, etc. The creative team could come up with far better things than I can so they would do better than what I just said. But, Disney cheeped out here. They also could have done better than a box truck. They could have taken the truck frame and put a box on it, with ride simulation technology. Smaller than is used on Star Tours but larger than is used on the Indiana Jones cars. That could have added motion that would be different than the suspension of a truck, made it just a bit more immersive. But again, budget. Disney seems no longer interested i pushing boundaries and being the best. Magic has given way to fleecing the rubes for all they have. Disney has always been about getting into your wallet, but they offered magical experiences in exchange.
@@tedthurgate could have easily done what Universal did with the Hogwarts Express. They show screens disguised as windows. The beginning and ending are brick tunnels for the stations, and the middle is the show. They could easily have the middle be space. Sure they could throw in another spacecraft or moon, but the bulk of the trip could be stars flying by. This section could be sped up and slowed down as needed or simply looped. If that doesn’t work, the rentry tunnel could be looped. Guests most likely are once in a lifetime guests, so they’re not going to notice that their trip took an extra minute. Judging by where Tom sat, it’s almost as if they were going to have a show, but then covered it up last minute as if it wasn’t ready.
I mean universal got it right with hogwarts express … really should’ve taken some pointers from that and tried to make the experience on the box truck or whatever more immersive like universal did .
WDW News, For the money you have to spend to take this cruise, You'd think they would have given everyone a more immersive interior and ride to Batuu. You can start to feel it in the air, Universal is starting to set the standards. Cheers, Chris Perry.
It seems to me that they skimped a bit on the concept design. This could have been a monorail type transport which would more accurately convey space flight and be very consistent in the amount of time from the Halcyon to Black Spire Outpost. It’s just another example of not being able to see what Walt Disney himself would have envisioned. Not all that impressed with anything I’ve seen in regards to this experience so far, certainly nothing that warrants the cost. I know many die-hard fans are going to fork over the money, but it’s not why I go to Disney.

WOW the facial expressions say it all...I see people on the subway showing more wonderment! The box truck inside kinda looks like they took a monorail car, blocked the windows and added some lights. They couldn't spring for a screen to show your journey from the ship to Batuu like Hogwarts Express?
They should have built a mini skyliner with the pods made up to look like transport pods with screens showing your descent/ascent form and to the ship. This is fine I guess, but it reeks of cost cutting
The theming of the actual box truck is well done - more Star Tours than Star Wars though - especially the cartoony voice over/droid... the Cantina music is the most SW thing from the whole 'experience' so far! The slight delay at the end... I was expecting Border Force to board looking for illegal immigrants 🤣 One other thing... could Disney have not created a themed wheelchair for cast members?
That's the man's personal wheelchair, if I were him and I had the choice between my own assistance device and a device mandated by Disney's costuming policies, I'd probably choose my own. It's the same feeling as choosing to wear your own shoes or shoes that you check out that other folks have worn. Your own are always going to be more comfortable if you have the option to use them, because they're the ones you've selected for your needs and that you're used to.
@@takeru8064 I get that and totally understand that... but this is billed as a fully immersive experience... people recording on their mobile phones and standard earth-issue wheelchairs etc., take you out of that experience... no disrespect to the cast members that have to use wheelchairs etc., but for the money Disney are charging for this, they could have made a themed wheelchair that the individual cast members had fitted especially to their requirement.
@@dazblue5515 that is an extremely ableist comment. Wheelchairs are customized for the user, and even a simple manual wheelchair costs $5k upward. And this is just a sampling of what people are paying multiple thousands to experience. So immersive. How do they come up with this stuff? Pure magic, that’s what this is.
I thought there were supposed to be screens internally showing your ‘trip through space’? Like on the superior Hogwarts Express? Did they just cut that from the budget? This whole thing makes me a bit sick. Honestly, people are expected to pay $6000 for a 36-hour LARPing experience? People have been doing that for free in parks and woods for years. Kids have been doing it for free on playgrounds forever. What is honestly the point? Will they even bother changing up the story every year or so to try and entice people back? It looks deathly dull at the moment.
Kinda funny that you said that. I was cleaning out an old suitcase and couldn't believe my eyes: I stumbled across an old Star Tours bumper sticker. It's definitely over 20 years old. Sorry, I'm hanging on to it!
I’m trying to figure out where does the transport actually go? Looking at Google Maps and other pictures, it’s literally across the street/parking lot backstage. Wonder why the trip takes so long. Even parking lot trams go further.
Pimp my box truck. The ride is less of a show and more of a backdrop to checking e-mails and text messages. Love that DJ Rex. The best music from 2019.
I have two questions. 1). So when you arrive on Battu, can you just go into Hollywood Studios and come back? 2) do you have to get back on to a scheduled shuttle (box truck ride) or can you go back anytime?
How is this supposed to feel like a $6,000 experience??? They really lost so many people once the reveal was finally shown...even die hards can't honestly say this feels anything like Star Wars let alone is worth such a price tag...
Just thinking out loud... If they would charge everybody $25+ for parking at the parks $25 for parking at the resorts Ditch Fast Pass and charge for Genie+ Charge more and reduce food portions And nickel and dime you "customers" every chance you get, maybe you'd have enough money to make this $6,000 package better.
I'm guessing you know it was a box truck before riding it, imagine if you knew the secret to a magic trick before seeing the trick performed it would kill the magic.
So, J6F8 is talking on the transport, then mentions that he is, of course, a Droid, as you can hear him breathing in between each sentence, LOL. Ya think Disney would’ve caught that…
Why didn't they include screens on the Box truck? They could have made it look like you were in Space and landing on the planet Batuu. Missed opportunity.
I will start with, I just spent 2+ weeks on Disney property, we fully enjoyed the additions to the park and felt like the area captivated us. (I will admit none are Star Wars Junkies, but still appreciate what is there and the ride quality) for the Junkies that are booking the entire experience I would expect offerings of a full character costume when they go to the park, in Rise of the Resistance make 3 or 4 different scenarios where the hotel guests are the hero saving "the common people" Basically you want people to feel like the money they spent, they are the hero and everyone else in the ride/park that day should know it. Or just suck them blind make them pay for everything extra, hell make them bring their own towels from home and never care on a repeat customer.

Ordinary adventures: this is the best thing we have ever seen
I used to like Ordinary Adventures but I lost respect for them on this one.
Gotta keep the Mouse happy, or no more cheese. 😉
They have no integrity when it comes to obeying the hand that feeds them
Ordinary adventures = Disney shills
@@tikvision sad but true... his film site was a bunch of bull too. Now... nothing wrong with making money... but sucking the Disney teet.... no
I think this is the first of a new fad. Escape room, interactive like hotels. Hope future interactive adventure hotels are less expensive.
Agreed. If anything I hope this inspires and most importantly teaches future hotel brands what to do and not do.
I was expecting an animatronic pilot instead of a ventilation grate.
One of them fancy box trucks
Cant wait for this to be turned into a Deluxe Resort.
That can't happen, it doesn't have all the other amenities of a deluxe. It would probably just be abandoned.
Tom, thanks for taking us along on the starcruiser! It’s the closest I will ever get to go
wow - almost everyone is staring at their phones - must be boring.
WDW News, For the money you have to spend to take this cruise, You'd think they would have given everyone a more immersive interior and ride to Batuu. It must be a terrible job being an Immagineer at the moment having to do things with one arm tied behind your back and your budgets being cut back all the time. You can start to feel it in the air, Universal is starting to set the standards. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Wow, no screens at all?
No wonder it feels like a box truck.
I know many die-hard fans are going to fork over the money, but it’s not why I go to Disney.
a monorail for a 8 minute ride each way. geesh that doesn't sound expensive at all. /s
@@michaelinterbartolo3 they’re already charging you like that’s what they’ve done. It’s only 12-15 minutes to Epcot from the TTC. They could also have used the mag-lev that the people mover uses. It’s Disney without the Disney magic is all I’m saying.
But that's up to Cheapek and he doesn't want to spend any more money on it. That's why he's a terrible parks ceo.
@@largol33t1 exactly. They really need to get someone in there that has a true understanding of what is needed. The direction that this company is going right now is not a good one for consumers, which is a shame because that’s what makes them more money ultimately. The way it’s going, they are going to price themselves out of the business. Not a good business plan.
@@largol33t1 nobody sees the outside so why spend money on it. Smart financial decision I applaud as a shareholder
The jokes are everything. Tom cracking himself and everyone else up. Love it! A spaceship with suspension lol
Tbh, that first cast member ain't really pulling me into this immersive experience. Im surprised they're not more in character as you're boarding a SHIP GOING INTO SPACE. The way they do soarin would be just right i think
Again "cheap" is the only word I can think of for a 6k experience. Think of the immersion in the Hogwart's train - it blows away anything and it's included with your ticket.
Yet another reason for me to steer clear of Disney and stick with Universal. At least they still have free Express Passes in their hotels.
Idk... not being able to see out any "windows" and having all that bouncing around, I have a feeling it would make me car sick
Big difference with Universal's Harry Potter train between the two parks.
Thanks for sharing... that's pretty Kool... but the box truck jokes were perfectly timed!!!!
Yeah - this needs some real work - they need an animatronic or something...screens? Anything other than a disembodied voice in a box truck....
I know right!
We needed more of Tom’s commentary! “Now for the unboxing” HILARIOUS!!!🤪
"And please supervise your younglings." I thought they stopped using that term. XD
My question is: how much time did they give you, and are you able to step OUTSIDE of galaxys edge?
From what I read, they stop giving rides to Halycon around 4-5 pm, you have a pin so that people know you are from the hotel
Stepping outside of the immersion is grounds for disintegration
The theming of the actual box truck is well done - more Star Tours than Star Wars though - especially the cartoony voice over/droid... the Cantina music is the most SW thing from the whole 'experience' so far!
The slight delay at the end... I was expecting Border Force to board looking for illegal immigrants 🤣
One other thing... could Disney have not created a themed wheelchair for cast members?
That's the man's personal wheelchair, if I were him and I had the choice between my own assistance device and a device mandated by Disney's costuming policies, I'd probably choose my own. It's the same feeling as choosing to wear your own shoes or shoes that you check out that other folks have worn. Your own are always going to be more comfortable if you have the option to use them, because they're the ones you've selected for your needs and that you're used to.
They could at least have mocked up something that "looked" like an advanced device. This version looks like a backward slide...no pun intended.
Asking a non-ambulatory person to use a wheelchair that is not specifically custom to them, could not only be extremely uncomfortable, but could also cause injury to that person. Carlos looks to be quadriplegic and he should never be asked to go without are essentially, his legs. Your privilege is showing.
@@anthonypecorara If you read my comment properly you would see I said Disney could customise the wheelchair for the individual users - I fail to see how that is 'ableist', and god knows they're making enough money so they have no excuse.
Also - Carlos appears to have the use of his arms - so I think you meant Paraplegic
And this is just a sampling of what people are paying multiple thousands to experience. So immersive. How do they come up with this stuff? Pure magic, that’s what this is.
I think I'll just use the, still free, Disney bus, close my eyes, pretend that I'm in a space shuttle, and save $7000
I can't believe they don't have you seat belted in. That truck hits a pothole and ya'll be flying lol
Even with those good distractions, you can still tell you're in a box van travelling at 10 mph.
Basically a real life computer game loading screen.... that you sit and wait in.
Looking forward to the inevitable defunctland episode about this “Cruise”
Over time, I don't see how this transport (box truck) can be financially and logistically viable. Seems like it would be the first thing to be cut...
They should have a first order cast member board the 'shuttle' looking for rebels or something. Needs more story.
too bad they didn't do something like Star Tours with a wall that slides down and an animatronic droid with a screen showing your "flight"
Kinda funny that you said that. I was cleaning out an old suitcase and couldn't believe my eyes: I stumbled across an old Star Tours bumper sticker. It's definitely over 20 years old. Sorry, I'm hanging on to it!
@@largol33t1 That’s an interesting find. It’s more interesting than this.
How long did you have to wait being told things at the gate that you could have been told in (boxed) transit???
I’m trying to figure out where does the transport actually go? Looking at Google Maps and other pictures, it’s literally across the street/parking lot backstage. Wonder why the trip takes so long. Even parking lot trams go further.
Pimp my box truck.
The ride is less of a show and more of a backdrop to checking e-mails and text messages.
Love that DJ Rex. The best music from 2019.
My husband and I have talked about this and we have decided we are far too sarcastic and Cynical for this sort of LARP’ing experience.
In a box truck far far away!
I like the journey into imagination with figment ride better then the box truck. Figment ride might be a little more immersive.
I have two questions.
1). So when you arrive on Battu, can you just go into Hollywood Studios and come back?
2) do you have to get back on to a scheduled shuttle (box truck ride) or can you go back anytime?
You can go anywhere you want but if you miss the last shuttle at 4:00 you have to get your own transportation back to the hotel.
How do you get to other parks such as Epcot, magic kingdom etc.
This ride is taking a while...think the "transport" hit traffic?
So do you have to stay at the hotel at the whole time or can you go back and forth as you please?
Disney, regarding your description above for the artist of the Cantina Song, why did you omit John Williams name from the artist line?
Every time I see one of these videos Im like "What are you people thinking?", referring to the published cost.
for 6k they should had build a train like in Universal
Couldn't Disney make sure the route was glass smooth on the way to Batuu?
Can they raise the volume a bit more?
How is this supposed to feel like a $6,000 experience??? They really lost so many people once the reveal was finally shown...even die hards can't honestly say this feels anything like Star Wars let alone is worth such a price tag...
My son would love this. I think this excursion is great for families with kids but still overpriced.
Then he would love Chucky Cheese too .
@@daisycocoa2557 Chucky cheese is overpriced and bankrupt but hey if there's one near you go ahead.
Why is there no windows? 🤣
Everyone looks so.... Happy on their phones...in that Battlestar Galactica raptor

I was under the impression that Starcruiser was built behind galaxy's edge, like a grand californian feel?
Wow, even in space they use little organza bags cinched with a ribbon from China! Who would’ve thought it?!
3:25 man is groovin’
In a time when Disney is known for screens and projections where are they to spruce up this uHual
Just thinking out loud...
If they would charge everybody $25+ for parking at the parks
$25 for parking at the resorts
Ditch Fast Pass and charge for Genie+
Charge more and reduce food portions
And nickel and dime you "customers" every chance you get, maybe you'd have enough money to make this $6,000 package better.
Why does it take so long? Isn't it right next to the park?
I'm guessing you know it was a box truck before riding it, imagine if you knew the secret to a magic trick before seeing the trick performed it would kill the magic.
Ok? Can you say something to see like star field or other ship traffic?
Minus the shoulder restraints, it bears an uncomfortable and uncanny resemblance to the interior of the dropships from Starship Troopers.
wow, does this truck just drive in circles for 10 minutes?
So is there an emergency pull on this space shutt errrr box truck? What happens if a passenger has an emergency????
Your sacrifice is appreciated. This feels a bit cheap compared to what Disney could do.
(I will admit none are Star Wars Junkies, but still appreciate what is there and the ride quality) for the Junkies that are booking the entire experience I would expect offerings of a full character costume when they go to the park, in Rise of the Resistance make 3 or 4 different scenarios where the hotel guests are the hero saving "the common people"
Basically you want people to feel like the money they spent, they are the hero and everyone else in the ride/park that day should know it.
Or just suck them blind make them pay for everything extra, hell make them bring their own towels from home and never care on a repeat customer.
It wouldn’t be so bad if the had some window screens to make it look like you’re going somewhere.
I thought there would be windows with screens to see the transition from the ship to the planet. A shame..
The vertical hand rails look like they're from a Mk 6 Monorail... This feels like a scene from the 1960s TV show "Mission: Impossible".
OMG ALL THE MEN LOOKK SO UNHAPPY AND JADED IN THE VIDEO...
So you included Lightning lane? Totally surprised thry did not add thr $20 on to the cost.
It's too bad Covid has made its way to this system. 😷 I wouldn't want to leave this planet where we've had to deal with Covid Craziness for 2 years just to deal with it on that planet...
For a better ride, look up the 3D Star Wars simulation ride. It's here on RUclips.
