Hey man, it’s great seeing another dimension of you. I hate when people write off tech folks as being JUST tech oriented. Cheers to multidimensionality!
Dang I knew I had seen him before lol. The whole entire time while watching this I kept thinking "man this guy is a computer scientists who's gone racing".
I'm not gonna go into technical things. But seeing you, as a same age mentor (at least at programming) driving a car that is what I want, was very inspiring. Thanks for racing with 911.
The 911 is actually just a track car, was racing a gt4 clubsport. I'm considering converting my 911 to a spec 997, but most of the spec 997 racers are PDK, and my 997 is a manual. Kind of a big difference. I love manual, but, it's really nice to focus more on driving and gear selection with a PDK than sacrificing with MT.
I have to say man, your driving was really smooth and the narration was awesome, it was really cool to see your thought process throughout the battles. Gave a ton of really interesting insight. For your first race weekend the driving was superb and you seemed to have kept a very level head on your shoulders during the battles. Keep it up and I would love to see more racing content.
Dude after your last upload i had to dig around to find out more about your racing and this was an absolutely amazing video. My wife yelled for me about ten minutes into it and I snapped to, realizing that i was *literally* sitting on the edge of the seat, elbows all sprawled out wide on the desk, face a foot from the screen with the doofiest mouth breathing grin i can think of mustering. The chaos of the whole thing combined with this pucker factor of waiting to hear crunching sheet metal and then your steady eddy description of your strategy...damn good TV lol. So impressed, man.
I study mechanical engineering and our capstone project is a formula one car. I wasn't interested in it until now. It's great to see another aspect of what you do man! Honestly an inspiration to millions out there! Hope you see this and just want you to know your programming videos are amazing for me because my degree doesn't go into as much depth as I would like.
i haven't visited your channel in years i was a big fan and now i just found out you are into cars . defiantly top people in my life that i gotta have talk with.
I'm a racing fanatic myself that would love to do something you showed us in this video. What's funny is, that I only watched you for all the neural network stuff you did because it interests me and I need it for my studies. It such a weird feeling for me to see that you love racing too, what a small world we live in :P Really happy for you, what a great experience!
this is one of my favorite things! I am currently pursing a degree in EE and most people think I am crazy to enjoy racing cars / bikes. Refreshing to see this :D
I'll be honest, I started watching this video in incognito mode because I didn't know if I wanted these kinds of videos in my feed. Having watched it, I honestly loved this video and would love to see more. In fact, I'm watching this again with my account logged in. I specifically loved the narration. It helped put logic to the chaos and I got to see the mindset that racing requires. Honestly, one of the best things I have ever watched.
Congratulations! You’re absolutely right - any kind of physical racing is really mentally challenging. I’ve never driven in a race, only run in a few 5ks and a half - a lot of adrenaline and excitement. A lot of tactics - nothing like yours! Doing stuff for real where your life or health may be on the line, is way different than on a computer screen. Sucks when someone is blocking you!
hey I started racing motorcycles too around ~18 and in college now, can't wait to get my first real new car. I had no idea we shared the same passions!! So inspiring, can't wait to have a disposable income for this kinda stuff
I loved the video man. Excellent driving. My heart rate was up while watching you race. So far I am at the DE level. I don't have the budget for racing, not even to get a racing license. But I am working on it. Love seeing a programmer doing track and racing driving. I am also in the software engineering field.
this is a really exciting video for me, I don't see that many people who are into computers and cars. makes me want to keep trying to do cars as a hobby. and to keep my full attention for almost 30 minutes like this did, it was super cool.
I wasn't expecting to see this, but it was a lot of fun to watch! It looks to me like you did really great for your first race day (not that I'm any sort of racing expert). I wouldn't mind getting into this a little myself, but I just want to race, not pick up another hobby in maintaining a race vehicle. I may have to find somebody to partner with who can do most of the maintenance if I bankroll it.
@@sentdex Oh certainly not for a full race, unless we're talking far lower-tier, open call sorts of race days with no pitting. I meant more for maintaining a track car in general.
In that case, you can just find a shop somewhere. I do the basic stuff like brakes, rotors, fluids...but for anything more I have a shop do the work. After my recent moves, I can't find a decent one, but that's the goal :P
how exciting. I didn't think I'd be that interested, but my eyes were glued to the screen throughout. You should rename the channel Python & Porshes :)
Back to our “regular scheduled programming”?!?!.. waaaaaaait a minute.. I see what you did there! Thanks for sharing! Truly enjoyed this video, and at COTA! Ugh! One day I’ll go there to watch the F1 race. How is the feeling of the climb on turn 1?
Hmm, you know, I really don't notice it. I am sure there are some added G's, but maybe you don't notice because up the hill is also a brake zone (and pucker zone). Maybe if one was totally relaxed, you'd feel it...otherwise it's just cool because you can brake even faster there since it's basically free downforce.
Hi, rly cool video. But could you do one where you explain explicitly the rules of the racing ? like what are all kind of flags, how the passing works etc.. Rly interrested in this :)
*posts the 2019 PCA Clubracing rule book* I think that's probably out of the scope of my channel, but yellow flags are cautionary. If at one station, it means be careful and no passing here. If everywhere, it means everyone will be slowing down, safety car will come out, and basically the entire group gets back together. Green flag means go. I don't think any other flags came up here, but I can almost guarantee a video exists on youtube explaining racing flags for USA. Most USA racing groups use very similar rules.
Such a change from your usual content, but totally welcome. This is super fucking cool. I’ve been thinking about trying to get into racing lately myself, however I’m not so sure I have the disposable income I need yet haha.
I didn't know you would be racing on the Circuit of the Americas! Tell us if you're in another event because I'd consider driving the 30 minutes to watch.
Thought I replied to this. Apparently not. Anyway, I didn't really expect the event to be anything worth watching. Was pretty sure I'd not actually be competitive. No more PCA races there this year. Sometimes I go out there for regular track days, but those are probably even more boring to spectate.
I would have liked to see the conversations between all the racers in that 5 man group race one. Everyone together talking about the maneuvers and all that, and how they reacted or felt or their mindset. That'd be cool, if you could get them on camera.
Very heads up racing and good car control for a guy with an X on his car. How do I know? Because I am also a PCA racer in SPC and a DE instructor. I was racing at Road Atlanta this last weekend and thought this video might have been that race until I realized it was COTA. I will try and keep my eye open and say hi if we are at the same event. I have been a sub of this channel for a couple of years and this video was certainly a pleasant surprise, You summarized the attraction/addiction of the mental challenge of racing very well. Welcome to the club.
I had a good weekend thanks. Finished mid-class as I qualified in both sprints. Lots more race experience ahead of me. The enduro was a downpour and windshield fog fest so I bailed after a few laps rather than risk hitting something or someone.
That pass in T11 was borderline divebomb. When the other guy got you into T1, you should have done the over/under on him. Especially if he had to park it, you could have done that there. T1 at COTA has a ton of room for that kind of move into both T1 and T11. Great channel though. Came for the Python but you just tapped into one of my other passions.
Agree on divebomb, which is why I stopped trying to pass there with trains. Can see how it coulda gone poorly a bit later. Race 1 was really just getting tossed in the deep end. No way to prepare for it til you do it and make sketchy moves like that to learn from. Plenty of other things too like the mentioned over under. I watched the videos after and saw quite a few things I wished I had done differently, but still happy overall. Rookies have big Xs on their cars to hopefully alert you to our noobiness.
Congratulations, on your achievement, Kind of waiting you to show your team members, from the time you mention them to the video ending. Any way thank you for sharing all of this.
Excellent video, thank you so much for uploading and congratulations on your wins. I'm looking to transition from track days to racing also but money is a big factor holding me back. How long did it take you from track days, to obtaining a racing license, to actually racing?
I did track days for like 5 years. From deciding to apply for license to actually getting license, it took about ...2 months or so. Not long at all, got the license a few days before race. Cut it very close :P
This GTA bot is getting more and more realistic. But we are not quite there yet.
Hey man, it’s great seeing another dimension of you. I hate when people write off tech folks as being JUST tech oriented. Cheers to multidimensionality!
Cars aren't technology?
Python and cars. Officially my favorite channel now.
Dude this was cool as fuck! thanks for sharing! been following your python vids for years and was surprised by this content, but loved it!!
Same here :)
Dang I knew I had seen him before lol. The whole entire time while watching this I kept thinking "man this guy is a computer scientists who's gone racing".
LMAO the Doug Impersonation was on point lol.
Out of all the narrated racing videos I've ever seen, this was by far the best.
Really cool video man! Would love to see more stuff like this!!
I'm not gonna go into technical things.
But seeing you, as a same age mentor (at least at programming) driving a car that is what I want, was very inspiring.

i can not believe it, my favourite youtuber and programmer is an actual race-car driver! You are truly an amazing person :D Stay safe on the tracks :)
It's crazy how much more comfortable you looked in race 2 compared to race 1, great improvement in confidence!
In.Freakin.Credible. As a car/racing enthusiast myself, you are living the absolute dream!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, the Doug Demuro bit at the end 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great commentary! This was super fun to watch. I felt the joy at 10:43. :)

As a guy who enjoy racing aswell programming this video surprised me a lot. Nice driving around COTA. Congrats man.
Thanks!
Man you're living the dream. Just don't listen to what people say. Do your thing.
Wow, I never understood racing until this video. Pretty exciting
Big Love from nepal ! thank you sentdex we have learned many thing from you ! You are my all time teacher !😍
i haven't visited your channel in years i was a big fan and now i just found out you are into cars . defiantly top people in my life that i gotta have talk with.

I like the way you are narrating the race. It's fun to follow your races along with coding tutorials. Congratulations and good luck man.
this is one of my favorite things! I am currently pursing a degree in EE and most people think I am crazy to enjoy racing cars / bikes. Refreshing to see this :D
Bro this is awesome! You always come out with the best content
woah, totally unexpected.. As a car fan and software dev, this sounds promising.. Pls post more of this
I hope I get the opportunity to :D
Mate, loved this! Super exciting, you made some seriously ballsy moves out there!
Freaking amazing video and commentary, also you are a beast behind the wheel!
I'll be honest, I started watching this video in incognito mode because I didn't know if I wanted these kinds of videos in my feed. Having watched it, I honestly loved this video and would love to see more. In fact, I'm watching this again with my account logged in.

Glad you enjoyed!
DUDE that's AWESOME ! keep uploading these videos !
Nice racing. I came from the car scene into programming and your channel was one of my inspirations. Very cool to see you out there.

The last part was super intense! Great job!!!
Dude thoroughly enjoyed the narration.
Good racing mate! Your driving is superb.

Hmm, this license cost me $125. How much for you? Best wishes to you, hope you can do it one day! Where do you do DEs?
Programming + Racing = Grand Theft Auto. But You Are Amazing.....Harrison...❤️❤️. We Support You.👨💻
Epic!!!!! Congratulations..... I´ve been a fan of your tkinter tutorials and now as a race driver as well...
Beautifully done bro! I've learned a lot about python from you and love racing. Keep these vids coming!
Thx for sharing this experience with us. Congratulations for 1st places. You deserved it. Edit: Best narration ever!
Thanks!
Loved the narration! Glad to hear you caught the racing bug. New racing playlist please!
this is a really exciting video for me, I don't see that many people who are into computers and cars. makes me want to keep trying to do cars as a hobby. and to keep my full attention for almost 30 minutes like this did, it was super cool.

This video doesn’t even need a @decorator. Thanks for sharing!
You are super. Go for racing as well. Life is short, do not wait.
This is so awesome and inspirational. Thanks for this
Awesome. Congratulations!
This was fucking awesome, the commentary was great!
This was awesome!!! Hope to see more again!!!
really enjoyed the race and learned a lot from the commentary !
Damn, I came here for some coding, but this is still really awesome!
Really enjoyed the commentary!

I think it'd be quite hard if either driver was also double-duty as mechanic.

I'd love to do more and make it a series. Just might be slow. Racing is very expensive, even with help :P. No idea when I'll do it again.
how exciting. I didn't think I'd be that interested, but my eyes were glued to the screen throughout.
You should rename the channel Python & Porshes :)
Man! You are awesome, please take care and safety first, you are too precious to all of us lol
I wish you could be the narrator for my life. I don’t care for cars but the voice alone makes it much more interesting.
Very cool. A friend of my dad also drives at porsche clubracing but with gt2 rs clubsport.
Your dad's friend is quite the baller. That's a LOT of car. Very cool!
super cool! thanks for sharing!
You're basically living my dream.. I can't even afford to service my car
It was not long ago that I also couldn't afford to fix my car. My S2000 sat broken in my garage for almost a year at one point :(
How can one be both nerd and cool in the same time? Well done. Good stuff.
Judging by the thumbnail I thought for a quick moment that you had found a machine learning model for self driving racing cars !
All the best bro!!
Thanks!

Sentdex you are such a cool dude!! I only wish i could meet people and have friends like you in real life.
Wow, you did Doug DeMuro perfectly! I had to look over and see if my RUclips had gone to another video!
Hi, rly cool video.
But could you do one where you explain explicitly the rules of the racing ? like what are all kind of flags, how the passing works etc..

Suggestions:
-Program AI, and use it to train yourself
-Team up with Samy Kamkar and hack other cars somehow
This seems really cool, good luck
Racing at COTA must be fun!
Really cool content to see from you, loved it

I left them out, except for the pic of the coach (James Vance), on purpose, for their privacy.
That was awesome!
Hella surprised by the car content!!! Nice video!!!
Congratulation, good job man, what app are you using to record race info?
When you showed that list of the drivers' name I was looking for the name sentdex! LOL
Mega! Racing on cota is a bonus
hahah the sentdex strategy. floor it infront of them at the turn then slam on the brakes!
You have to get on Iracing!! You will love it! So cool to see someone with the same two interests :D
I play project cars 2 and rfactor2 mostly. iracing turns me off with the sub model :P
I’m liking that Evga 1080ti in the back
I actually thought youtube auto played to a Doug video :)
Great
Thank you for the video
4:36 I Guess that’s why we do sim racing lol
Soooo, how exactly did you get the opportunity? I mean how did you find the team and convinced them to let them race in their car
Excellent video, thank you so much for uploading and congratulations on your wins. I'm looking to transition from track days to racing also but money is a big factor holding me back. How long did it take you from track days, to obtaining a racing license, to actually racing?

damn this is amazing. the guy i learn python from is actually a certified gangster on the track!!!
Since your drone videos, I was waiting for the rubbers to born on your ride.
You GOT some skills
