You can see the fish is inflated with air at the end and won't be able to deflate because puffer fish should inflate themselves underwater not out of it. It probably died a few minutes after this clip.

It's not like he's going to break into your house and poison you, or poison you if you touch him (as you implied), that's not how it happens.

i didnt see the fish swim away. They didn't show that part so that makes me think the fish was killed. Otherwise why not show it swimming away?
@intothelightcarolanne4699 The fish was still breathing. You can see that in the video. It had inflated. That is a defensive mechanism which is to deter predators, but it makes them float. Once it deflates, the fish will swim away.
Yeah. I’m torn. They play dead as a defensive and him picking it up put it in that headspace considering it wasn’t inflated before he picked it up. I think he was just trying to prove it was a puffer I don’t know why he took so long maybe he was considering selling it on the black market. It probably did swim away at some point but it probably took a good half hour or so as he was terrified and almost dead. They can stay like that for long stretches as they have to wait for predators to lose interest and leave.

Sadly puffers cant deflate when they gulp air and will die without help as they can not expel the air. I have raised them. I had one that i had to rescue when a tank went toxic suddenly and she trusted me enough after that to pick her up and pet her without puffing. And yes she actually enjoyed brief visits to the world out of water in my hand. She was a strange fish till my ex killed her with bleach...that moment she became my ex
