    Reviewer Mike Perkins calls the redesigned 2018 Kia Rio5 an incredible deal and perhaps the most “fiscally responsible” option in the subcompact segment. Starting below $14,000, the Rio is a top seller for Kia in overseas markets in both sedan (Rio) and hatchback (Rio5) form. And while the base trim’s manual locks, windows, and side mirrors may take you back in time, the flagship EX offers the Uvo infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, not to mention a forward-collision warning system with auto braking.
    All Rios get a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder with 130 hp and 119 lb-ft that’s estimated at 28 mpg city, 37 highway, 32 combined. Perkins averaged closer to the mid-30s over his week with the car, and while he didn’t find its power provocative, he did enjoy driving it, particularly since he didn’t have to wait for a turbo to spool at low speeds. Perkins also had plenty of headroom for his 6’4” frame, even in the backseat. Read the full review on CarGurus: cargur.us/l8ZVN

    I love this guy, such a great presenter. So well spoken, informative and unbiased, even on the lowest model in a lineup.

      Paul Ho I love this guy, such a great commenter. So well spoken, informative and unbiased, even with the lowliest of CarGurus presenters.

    Right on point. From @3:30-3:52 sounds about right on getting 38 mpg combined w/the automatic. Riding better than a Niro? Now that's surprising. It's definitely my favorite subcompact. Good insights and observations. Excellent.

    Thanks for the video Mike! Would you recommend it over the Prius?

    The 2017 looks better in my opinion. Still the best looking hatch besides the hot hatches of course

    I wish you've said something about the noise because the current model is notably noisy on the highway.

    • @MikeDPerkins
      @MikeDPerkins 6 лет назад +2

      Jaffar Abdul Baqi I spent a lot of time on the highway. There was a bit of tire noise over rougher pavement, but that's not exactly avoidable. Otherwise it was quite quiet.

      Blake Swan Hey, thanks Blake! Isn't it crazy about the drum brakes? Maybe next we'll see a budget car with carbs! Merry Christmas, bud.

    The steal in this segment is the Corolla IM. Dealers are selling them for $13k

    The 2018 Hyundai Accent looks much better to me, but it is a sedan that has no hatch. If you want a hatch, I like the Honda Fit.

    • @buildmorefarms1007
      @buildmorefarms1007 6 лет назад

      The Fit is behind in safety.

    • @BanBiofuels
      @BanBiofuels 6 лет назад +1

      Yea, I read about that. I would still take the Fit over the Kia, however. I would rather have the 2018 Hyundai Accent than any other compact car out there, and I love the Sonata for a big car. I am a Hyundai fan even though I have heard all the negative things about their past. I think they are really trying to do things better and have some success. It's all a matter of taste. If we all had the same taste, we would all try to marry the same woman. What kind of world would that be?

      I hear ya...Hyundai and KIA same owner though. I just really like the Rio. Amazing how advanced this car has become..love the red and gray leather optional interior!

    Why get a box for $16500 when you can get a fully loaded Honda 2014 for $14600😃

    Wow you like the styling more than the previous generation? I completely disagree. I just bought a used 2016 Rio hatchback, and wouldn't even CONSIDER the 2018's...styling sucks! Kia dropped the ball big time on these new Gen Rio's

      i agree i have the 2013 Kia Rio 5 dr and not to sound bias but i think our generation kia looks more sporty and handles great !

    • @corkydukeII5898

      these little kia"s in the states are a hard sell, i just bought mine 2013 Rio 5 , in may of 2017 cause i liked the design and it was fairly cheap for under $5,000 used , now i would never recommend anyone buy one of these late model kia rios brand new esp when there are a ton of other options out there , $16,000 for a rio??? who thinks thats a great deal???

    • @corkydukeII5898
      @corkydukeII5898 6 лет назад

      Oh cool, sounds like you fell in love with their styling too. In fact, when I first laid eyes on this gen styling (yours and mine) I was SHOCKED that it was a RIo, because their previous models were so un-noteworthy and pedestrian in styling.
      You only paid $5000 on a 2013? That's a good price. My 2016 I just bought 2 weeks ago (from a dealer) was listed at 12,991,but I traded in my 2010 Chevy Cobalt, so ended up paying only $11,000 total.
      You seem to be correct with these hatchback Rio's in the states...I live in SoCal and, altho there's TONS of other Kia models here, I don't often see our generation hatchback Rio's for some reason, which is weird becuz I see alot this type a car from Honda/Toyota etc, but just not these small hatchback Rio's...it's weird.
