I have made a fair number of coffee scoops the same way as you, and while I applaud the desire to keep the walls following the spherical external bowl shape, I feel that coffee would fall away easier from a more cylindrical hollow. This from years of using scoops I made myself. I am far too lazy to make some as I already have a lifetime supply ! A carnuba wax polish internally might help too. My favourites have a flat expresso compactor on the other end and stand up nicely.

I liked this viedo. I have 2 items that are not clear. On the layout of the Octagon sides. not clear where the edges of the flat face go for the 2 faces that are just to the side of the center one. I understand how wide it is but just where to put it? Also the multiplyer gave (.4) was also given as 4.***. i think it should be 3.***.
I understand so here are two references that may explain the process better: www.baylakewoodturners.com/uploads/1/2/9/9/129957093/spheres-octagon-method.pdf and: aaw.hockenbery.net/SphereDescription.pdf Both use the tangent of 22.5 degrees to define the FACE of each octagon within the sphere. If you do that , than all you need to do is turn away the octogon's corners. Hope this help. JimR

@@JimRodgersWoodturner that helps, thanks.
Why not put the handle down in the gap so you can turn the bowl at a right angle to the handle?
I could have. But I wanted the handle at an angle
