As the kid with a lone parent who was an addict, there were grown ups that would take care of me. Everyone I share this song with thinks it’s creepy.. guess you have to be that kid to understand. This is comedy, but still rings true ❤️
I see nothing creepy about this. It's brilliant! I'm happy to see you're doing better now :)
'We rob his parents heroin and throw it all away', best line
That actually made me cry. It’s the central point to the story !
sí!
@Dragon Energy I don't think it is, really.
he's good at darts and hugging
Nigel looks almost exactly like his dad at the same age
where is the LOVE button! cutest thing ever
who thinks this should have way more views '>'
omg how did you know?!
Pull up the handbrake I've run over gert o Reilly
I really want to normalise adult men hanging out with kids, but the internet has disturbed the male mind so much that it isn't really a safe thing to risk. This makes me cry because I know there is a genuine human decency and purity to take care of a child in need. Peadophilia is a sickness in the head that really needs addressing at the root because child abuse is too common now.
Anyway, Fucking incredible song. My favourite rubberbandits one - and I love them all!
Knock Knock guess who? It's not Ivan but he'll do! Lol
My little lads name is Ivan and I sing this to him all the time , he absolutely loves it ! 7 months old and he's laughs his little sweet head off to it 😁💙
I love how this song kind of dares you to think its creepy, but doesn't care if you do
Flynn°-°94 Seems to come straight from a perspective of having shitty parents that didn't give a flying f u c k about "properly" raising a child. The video truly does a great Justice for this song.
@@MikeyAckersVe lol I used to look after loads of "Ivan's" when I was wee cause their mas and das were away taking drugs and drinking
I think it’s cute as hell
@@gemmasmith6715 damn, I didn't get this video until I read your comment. suddenly this got deep and incredibly wholesome
It's the hopeful version of Cats in the Cradle. Especially when Ivan doesn't have time to play, but he's got a son to have his fun as he heads into his dying days.
"It's not Ivan but he'll do" really had me in stitches. This is one of the greatest pieces of comedy I've come a cross in a while!
a psychological masterpiece.
whilst the Murdoch/Mail still pimps the idea of a paedophile lurking behind every bush, the bandits tell the true story of most abuse taking place at "home".
I think it's about imaginary friends because Ivan looks to have a bad mam and dad so he gust wanted someone as a friend but because there was nobody around when he fell his imaginary friend came to help him
@@grimmoconnor9846 It's possible that it's about an imaginary friend but that's not really the point. It was written as a direct response to the the conversation on Liveline about Horse Outside. The complaint was that the song promotes drinking and drugs around kids and that it had cursing.
People were taking things from that song literally and ignoring context. Changing the song from being anti drinking around kids and general scumbaggery to Pro that. They wrote this song to be essentially the opposite of Horse Outside but almost begging for people to still complain about it being inappropriate. Proving the initial arguments incorrect.
If you haven't heard that discussion it's worth a listen. Blindboy rips the argument apart with logic
ruclips.net/video/kNLU-14HMp4/видео.html
You can find the whole show on RUclips but it's infuriating basically people complain about Horse Outside, Willie O'Dea defends it, people complain about Willie O'Dea for defending it, Blind Boy rings in.
Must have been a rough decade for you.
The kid they got for this video was absolutely perfect for this role.
@@killian7519 nah
Yess he's bloody adorable
The both of them
As kid my mom was an addict just makes me think of the genuine people who cared and took took the time to make sure I was Kk listen to it loads
"I made a promise we'd be friends until the day HE died". Of all the things that could be construed as creepy in this song, that lyric tops them...
GerryBolger dats limerick citayyyy
the rubberbandits are immortal they never age
i love how they're wearing mexican sombreros in spain
this is genius on so many levels.
How many, exactly?
@@comanchio1976
Uh, funny shock value level
Creepy pedo level
Face value happy level
Deep and wholesome level
Social commentary on neglected kids level
Fuck you to those who criticised the Bandits for their sense of humour level.
Genuinely good music level
Good use of language and rhymes level
That's 8 levels then.
i thought spastic hawk was touching but this is a whole new level of beautiful.
its 2022 and i giggled at your comment while i should definetly be asleep
“When we threw their heroin away”. Jesus I cried. Bandits always have comedy but with a killer undertone.
This is the loveliest thing I've seen in ages! The throwing the heroin away part is the most adorable part.
YES. The heroin bit. God I blubbed.
For some reason the last line, "Oh, used to know a boy like you before", really hits me in the feels. It sounds so genuine.. idk
This was recorded in drumgueely flats Shannon county Clare i remember meeting them while videoing back in 2011 when I was a kid good memories 😂💯
Awsome! its like an Irish flight of the conchords
That's actually a great description :)
Muhammad Ali, pull the handbrake, ill drive over Gerard O Reilly🎶🎶
Is it just me, or are Blind Boy's eyes just mesmerizing..
They're stunning :/
Who’s blind??
Well, they’re vampires.
@@jayofthedead7750 your mom’s a vampire
I love when blindboy does the "ehhh" after the "he wants me to be like his hero Bruce springstein"
This went from odd, to funny, to sad. Fantastic all around!
Blindboy has nice eyes
Bloody gorgeous eh
"I couldn't take the pain
I took a midnight train
I opened open up a little bistro in the south of Spain."
Me gusta mucho!!
Im sitting in a park drinking some tins ....now that is a great way to start a song haha
I used to think I couldn't be more proud of my Irish heritage but the rubber bandits proved me wrong lol
This guy is Bobby Fingers.
Gotta love the thumbs up/high five in the car xD
😂 I seen that and thought, that's real friendship
2 snakes for Christmas?! Lucky little devil.
just love the line "It's not Ivan, but he'll do"
Saw them Live in Limerick on the the 27th.12.2014.
I'm a German living in Galway but my GF is from Limerick and more or less introduced me to them and oh my god it was fucking awesome. Great and hilarious show - the guys really hit my funny bone
German, humour?
WHAT A PARADOX.
=D you see germans are funny - we usually just take it a little bit too far :P
"hah guys I know what'd be a hilarious idea!"
6 years later...
"ffs adolf when will you learn your boundaries?"
Tsar Nicholas The Gemran word for "forgot" and "gas" are the same.....think about it when saying "I forgot about the..."
+candim4n 1337 That's Limerick city.
"Ding dong, who's there? Someone else, who really cares? ..spoiling Nigel.."
Wtf did i just watch??? We are always late to the party. 🇺🇸... more like no one invites us anymore. 🤷♂️
"Knock, knock, guess who?
It's not Ivan but, he'll do!"
😂😂😂😂
This song was stuck in my head for the past two days. Finally scratching that earworm itch
This is just the type of stuff Sickboy would be into now that James Bond is dead and defiled.
Ivan/Nigel is so damn cute its unreal.
Can't get this out of my head since seeing these lads at Shakespeare's Globe.
This should have 1 trillion views
Mr. Crome must be a highlander. He will never die. But there can only be one.
That was traumatising
@gerardsteensoniplo If I can help you understand its 'idiomatic satire' more clearly I'd be honoured.the song satirises pedophilia and the moral panic that the media perpetrates around the issue, where it has reached a point where an adult who helps a kid in distress can be arrested or beaten up for doing so.Is that clearer now? if not get back to me and Ill elaborate further. Apologies for asking if you were 10 its just that the fact you didnt get the song's message kinda threw me.
Me watching this: 🤨😂😮😢😊
That s what I thought ....lile I said just because you don t have the ability to recognise satire does not make it not funny.
"Some people are just nice.."
Scroobius Pip reference!
What a great message.
cant do this in the usa they call you a pedophile really if dump out there drugs
Denial Brannon Claim that you're just a good samaritan that got a bag of glue stuck to your head?
But yeah.... Multiple layers of hypocrisy here.
+Superpureeliteful yeahhh that or they pay more...
K.
Channel 4 tends to be more supportive of independent media and is usually the first channel to jump on the controversial content wagon. Rubberbandits also highlight a lot of social issues in their songs (like this one), which they express in a comedic nature, which is another reason. Those two themes fit channel 4 pretty well who are known for their ground breaking documentaries, which they've won numerous awards for!
Because it is funny to lots and lots of people. Remember Just because it doesn't suit your sense of humour or your ability to recognise top class satire doesn t make it not funny.
Awww I love Ivan!! The animal outfit is just too cute!
i have one of those :)
Then I will love you too!
Saffire Sanchez
well my night just became better :p
:O Where did you get it?
i love rubberbandits so muuuuuch
Someone else who really cares
Did the kid get paid double tho ?
Have to say it must take some pretty awesome acting skills to be able to make such clear facial expressions while wearing a plastic bag on your face :P :P :P :P
Fair play Rubberbandits ! ! ! ! ! !
The reason they wear those shopping bags over their heads is because they are Jedward.
Take back that blasphemy!
i just had to punch a hole in the wall to feel manly again
its not ivan but hell do 😂😂😂
i remember when this video came out i cant believe its been so long feels like only yesterday the rubberbandits were on top of the world
Most people don't spot the real artistic talent the bandits have and strangely enough here, he important issues they adress. Quality Choon
Is that your child
Actually can be the sweetest innocent video and the darkest at the same time
Yep viewing the video literally and superficially it's so sweet and funny, but there's a lot of subtext 😶
@SilverScreenGuru Satire. They base themselves completely around satire. You simply don't understand it. Go listen to "Up Da Ra" and tell me that isn't a brilliantly hilarious satirical take on armchair republicanism.
The little boy is so sweet
Some people have no sense of humour. Wonder can any guess who i'm talking about
david hunter Definitely NOT the Rubberbandits
Listening in 2021
Always makes me smile, its so funny and lovely. I hope the rubber bandits get everything they deserve.
3mins in and I am waiting for the turn...
WHO PLAYED NIGEL??
playerthe2nd same kid
AlphaBanjaxedBanshee bruh
It's sort of twisted in its refusal to be twisted.
This was beautiful in the most odd way!
Why the south of Spain looks like Mexico?
This is probably their creepiest song, but it's one of my favorites.
I freaking Love it!!! yay up da bandits! you pure legends.
You can really hear the influence of Prince in the choruses. That synth is classic Prince.
that little dude is adorable. him and my son should have a cute battle, but i think it will destroy the world. also there is nothing creepy about this. its clearly a lonely guy who finds a little boy, who has bad parents, and he kind of adopts him. its a platonic relationship.
Sounds like a Squeeze record... Obviously a completely twisted one- but amazing.
Aw man, that's really nice. Kept expecting something horrible to happen, but I'm kinda glad it didn't.
Aww, so cute: “when his folks are sleeping, I call him out to play, we rob his parents’ heroin and throw it all away...”
Hitting the right notes on every level. Lads this is as close to perfection as Horse Outside. Keep it up!
Ivan is sooooo cute! I love his kangaroo outfit!!!
My favourite RB's skit, this here Spoiling Ivan is nothing short of genius, still love it after all these years :0*
Okay that was MOST excellent!!!You are Class Lads!
NONCE lol jk
This is to weird for me...
Men can care. we have the instinct to be parents. We are more than bread winners. We can be good brothers uncles father's etc. I highly recommend a movie called Ayla. The child of ear it is a beautyfull story about a man a soldier who rescued a child from a genocide and became a father kept his word and stayed to try and complete his promise. His girlfriend didint understand she wanted s breadwinner with medals but it's a great story that shows the good side of being a man in a world that dosent care
Ayla the child of war
Pedoish ? Does anybody remember Drop Dead Fred ? That's what this reminds me of.
This is so cute haha
@whichbit For a start, maybe you should start to quantify how this does satire paedophilia. Secondly, I would be the last person ever to have been called "hipster", given my traditional republican values, also it would be remise of me to claim to be a super fan, because, if anything, I could tolerate their idiomatic satire, because I understood it. Thats what made them funny, once they sacrifice that, they are boring. Resorting to insults at the end, also diminished your plausible argument.
@gerardsteensoniplo Naw Gerard you re back tracking dude when you say 'the message will be lost on most viewers' you are talking about yourself....You didn t want to like the song cos you are one of those hipsters that gets angry when an act they once liked becomes famous. So when you looked at it you didn t get beyond the blue peterishl video and ended up missing the point...and seriously have a bit of self esteem how can an act make an entire nation look silly..what are u 10 years old.
@gerardsteensoniplo Couldn't disagree more with you there!! How are they making the Irish look silly???? Its comedy!! These lads are getting better all the time. You do realise that they are the first Comedy Act to get a Tv Pilot commissioned by Channel 4 due to the success of this comedy blap!!! If anything they will be allowed to be more creative on Channel 4 than they would be with the conservative minded RTE!! Best of luck to them !!
@whichbit I hate to disagree, but, whilst no doubt that is what they are attempting to do (hopefully) it just makes themselves and the Irish look silly, the result of which is that, rather than being a stinging satire, the message will sure be lost on most viewers. To be honest, I've no time for this lot anymore, but thats because they, obviously, had to dilute their act to reach the english audience. Was funny at the start, now they have become a caricature of their former selfs.
@liamobrien06 I mean you're "shite" whatever it is hasn't as made you as famous as the rubberbandits! How's it a sell out? I don't think you understand the definition of a sell out...they never said they weren't gonna make anything like this...even on liveline they said they're making things that are funny and appeal to the public and it clearly does if it's getting 85 thousand views on youtube
@MiaLeonora This is clearly not so much about paedophilia as the fact that an adult can't befriend a child in this overly PC world without such accusations being made. A junior infant teacher (male or female) cannot put their arm around a child that is hurt or upset. We all know why the world got to this state but is it gone too far? If Ivan had been abused as a child would he leave his child with the paedo at the end? No - so the song is not suggesting abuse happened but maybe an accusation did
@johnjonathan38 they did up da ra every night to English audiences...knowing that when they started listing members of the IRA which included wayne rooney he s in the RA, and The Queen he's in the Ra the parts of the English audience who didnt already know the song would get it and guess what... they did. See most people who go to a Bandits show are aware that there is always a twist and would be keenly watching out for same it's the nature of the act. Simple really.
@TheLumberjackass some people were accusing them of "selling out" when they first started appearing on Republic of Telly on RTE 2!!!!!! Some people would just like to see being only known by a handful of people in limerick and Cork and recording prank phone calles again. They have both musical and comedic talent so why should they not showcase their material beyond Ireland!! Thats not selling out, its being ambitious!!!
