My husband has a very nice trick to cut corners: Using a nail clipper. I think if I do it before the inserts are stitched, I can easily cut them all in equal angles. Anyway, thank you for the superb tutorial! I'm so gonna try this one.
As for wax thread. I also make sketch books and journals. I never did have wax thread but I did find that thread or string used for knitting? I guess works just fine. The thread I'm thanking about is like embroidery thread. Thin but not like sewing thread and soft when run between your finders but not easy to break as sewing thread. Any way just something else to substitute if have nothing else. 🤓
I want to make one now! I wouldn't do it justice like you did in your sketchbook tour. And I could watch you dabbing glue on things with a brush for hours!
great tutorial! i like your channel a lot. your diys are actually well crafted and high quality unlike other cheap diy stuff. i admire your skill, great job!!
I love this tutorial :) I have a daughter that draws a TON and it can be hard to keep up with her sketch book addiction lol I'll have to make her a few of these for Summer Vacation :)
Hi! I saw your video by accident and I loved it, I'm wanting to make my first notebook made by hand (and if I like it, others) for my drawings and you were a real answer to my insecurities. I just wanted to say that I found you very amazing and that your video was seen by a confused Brazilian. I loved your video! Thank you very much. ❤️
Awesome.... you did a great job explaining everything so simply... and we end up with such a beautiful product! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and creative spirit!
This is a great tutorial! I have a huge stash of drawing paper I'll never be able to use, so putting them together into a sketchbook sounds like a grear idea. Thanks for sharing!:)
Hi you got skills😻😹 I hadn't seen this video and saw your sketchbook tour first and it looks as if you had bought in a store I am love with it!!!! You've got a new sub 😸😸
Yeah, back in college when I took book binding classes I had all the special stuff to make books(glue, book board, book cloth, etc), but now, since I don't make books as often I end up cutting corners, haha.
TIP! When you mark the lines on the back of signatures cut the marked lines with cutter NOT TOO DEEP just very tiny cut. It will save you a lot of time.
Cool project i've been considering trying my hand at book binding for awhile now. Also not sure if you're aware or not but the online woodworker and maker community has a pretty active group of folks that all swap stickers for our shops. If your interested in swapping let me know =)
I love your videos! So thorough!! for your next book themed how to could to thread the pages together with a brighter colored thread so it's easier to follow along? that's where I get lost every time! 😊
Hey can you suggest any alternative of the vinyl sticker? Anyway the like the idea of this sketchbook a lot. And I would definitely try to make one. Thanks for such amazing diy. Keep going :)
This is dope as fuck, I love it :D Btw I saw an ArtSnacks ad featuring you on Instagram and I got so excited about it haha. I love your videos, keep them coming you're inspiring :)
James Barton thats one of the main reasons of making your own sketchbook. you can choose the paper. watercolor. cardstock. mixed media. marker pad. anything.
I'm beginning to wonder more and more, and now that you've mentioned a professor, I must ask: what professional training did you complete in this...arts arena?
Could you OR ANYONE please let me know where did you get this sketchbook? trying like crazy to find something like A8, Its dimensions are 74 x 52 mm or 2.91 x 2.05 inches. (ANYONE)
I just want to know one thing: What does the waxed thread do? What if you use regular thread? That's all ^^ Otherwise it is great. I haven't made it.....yet.
The measurement will be different for everyone because the text block that you make will be a different size than mine. If you do as I say in the video and cut the width of the covering(the black thing) to be both cover widths + the spine width + 1 1/4in and then place your covers 1/2in from the three outer edges (as I show in the video) then the measurement should be correct :)
I think my signatures are too loose :/ I haven't put glue on the spine yet, but when I open the pages and it's at the end of the signatures you can see a space (plus the thread) in between two signatures. Will the glue help with this problem? I'm afraid it'll just fall apart on me bc of how loose I bounded the signatures! Also the signatures move around when I flip through them. Please help!
Sorry I'm so late in replying! I hope I can still help out. The glue should help, just make sure to press the signatures really well while you're gluing it up. I hope this helps you out and I wasn't too late!
You could totally make a diary by just using lined paper instead of blank paper :) And if you don't want to make your own text block, you can totally buy one from a book making supply (talasonline.com/Book-Blocks)
"you can use whatever paper you want and do it whatever size you want" why did you say it like if all sketchbooks are same paper and size? I mean it's really cool to have sketchbook like this i think it's also very personal this way but isn't it easier to just buy one?
My husband has a very nice trick to cut corners: Using a nail clipper. I think if I do it before the inserts are stitched, I can easily cut them all in equal angles.
Anyway, thank you for the superb tutorial! I'm so gonna try this one.
That's a good tip! Thanks!! :)
I'm soooo into drawing and crafts so this will be a fun activity to draw in and make at my house
Awesome! :D

Sketch 'n Doddle I use embroidery thread and it works like perfectly. It’s really colorful too😊
I want to make one now! I wouldn't do it justice like you did in your sketchbook tour.
And I could watch you dabbing glue on things with a brush for hours!

I might make a small version of the sketchbook you made since I love tiny things and don't have that much money to spend on supplies.
When you watched the whole thing to just say "I don't have the nerves to" in the end.
What is the music at the beginning of the video? Love your tutorial.
Very informative video. I may try this.
Cool beans thanks again for making the video! Please let us know on how well its holding up in the future!
Will do! :D

Nice vid!!! I have a question though. Is it ok if you use just regular sewing thread?
I love your purse
So are there any limitations on paper types? What if one wanted to use bristol or card stock as the paper in the sketchbook?
James Barton exactly my question.
James Barton thats one of the main reasons of making your own sketchbook. you can choose the paper. watercolor. cardstock. mixed media. marker pad. anything.
I like it!
Thanks for your tips. Thank you!!!
Thank you, Chezlin.

I just want to know one thing: What does the waxed thread do? What if you use regular thread?
That's all ^^ Otherwise it is great. I haven't made it.....yet.
its to the thread dont tangle. I've did mine last year with a crochet line, and come out very good.
Sara Beatriz Oh....Well...I am a master at not tangling thread so XD
Great tutorial! could you please put the measurements in centimeters also the next time? thanks!
Can you tell me, please, what distance is between two white sides of sketchbook, when you glue them on that black thing?)
The measurement will be different for everyone because the text block that you make will be a different size than mine. You're welcome! Thanks for checking out my tutorial, I'm glad you liked it :D
Nice!
Thanks!
Where can I find the paper that you used? Especially the brown, I've never seen it where I live
I got all of that paper from my local craft store. The black and brown papers were from the scrapbooking area
From where you buy that black cover
I miss graphic design class!

+chezlin Oh not a problem! Thank for the reply! I'll defs try that ^^
how did you make the sticker?!
Could I use embroidery thread instead of the wax thread?
Rya Turner yes that will be ideal because it will be thicker and will not rip the paper as easily but you will still need to wax it
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! AND SO DOES YOUR VOICE. OMFG. GLAD I FOUND YAH! #SUBSCRIBED
