I remember going there back in the early 2000's though the petting zoo is really all young me was interested in. There was a shack near the railroad tracks near the old Harold's Club and they gave out discount coupons for Great Basin Adventure. That's the only reason my family found out about it. I'm glad the place is being maintained.

I live in Reno and remember when my kids were young and I was a single parent I would take them there several times a year because the museum would change the exhibits and my kids would also have birthdays parties there..! My son had his 5th birthday party at Rancho San Rafael... And the kids got bracelets for the birthday party that got them on the rides and attractions..!

My kids grew up going to that park when they were little. The double diamond mine is a 2 story building that had these cool indoor tunnel slides. There were days I could never get my kids to leave that part of the park when they closed at park hours. My kids had too much fun and many great memories of that park.

I’m sure a lot of people get bummed out watching abandoned theme parks that they once shared a lot of fun times with their families and friends. My childhood memory is “River Country” in Orlando Florida. I was there in 1984 and it was so much fun. Now it’s abandoned since about 2004, not sure. It was shut down do to water contamination. They used to use lake water and some kids were getting sick, so this marked the end of theme parks ability to use unfiltered lake water in public parks. There were also pools, water slides, tube rides that were filtered but the one big part was part of the lake. River Country was right near Disney World. It’s such a shame, that water park was so much fun. Cheers

Has anyone else noticed the trend with all these small-time theme parks closing within the early 2000's? Corporate America really started taking over back then, killing off all the local, ma-and-pa parks and now all we have is Disney and Six Flags. I miss parks like this and would much rather visit one instead of a larger theme park.

There's a guy who commented earlier on the sadness of it. I was in Korea and they have an amusement part that closed down because of some horrific accident. However, it has a huge community pool and giant slide that still attracts hordes during the really hot summer months. I keep wanting to say Dreamland but I think that was another place down near Suwon, a bit north of Osan. This was north east of Seoul near Suyu-ri.
I always think about the intent and the children's laughter and screams of fear and joy, echoing still in some of the shadowed corners. It's hard for me to separate the now from the past, even when I see it. People loved these places that are now in decay. I'm nostalgic without it ever anchoring me and with no return.

Happy Thanksgiving all. Though I think we should just call it "Get Together With Loved Ones and Feast Day" and just celebrate love for one another. I enjoy these kinds of videos of amusement parks that are gone now. They are bittersweet, almost sad, of times past when you think about all the laughter and life that was once there. Back when I was growing up in Holyoke, Mass there was a place called "Mountain Park amusement park" It wasn't huge but it was fun and now it's closed. It was a sad day when it closed. gives me memories from a pretty local place when i was barely 10 years old, it had the typical dino theme and some small rides you could go on, mostly trains tho and nothing advanced you find in a large amusementpark. It was actually located on a real previous minesite, you could climb up the massive slag pile where they had placed some dinos and some benches. Now the property is barely fenced in and abanadoned. Next to it is the small minemuseum so id guess they own the property but just dont want random people on it. if you go in you can find some remains of the large plastic molded figures that where there once.
