It is physically impossible to watch these guys do ANYTHING and not end up feeling happy. Such a wonderful ability they had TOGETHER to entertain - no, not just entertain, but get in your head and make you see everything from a new, refreshed and SMILING viewpoint.
I couldn’t live without them . They’re always there somewhere at the back of my mind. They educated me, taught me English, informed me about the world, explained it. They deserve to be honored by the whole of humanity, I think.
The most brilliant part of the bit with the ashes was having Terry Gilliam, the one nobody was ever watching, be the one to knock over the ashes. Sheer geniuses, all.
"Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it. Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true. You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughin' as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you."
what a great tribute to graham, you couldn't possibly have better friends. i love john cleese's little anecdotes, he gets the greatest amusement out of things most of us pretend not to notice.
What the Beatles were to music, Python was to comedy. There was a world before them..and a different--better one--after. Know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink?
I'm thinking it was about 60% scripted, with around 40% improvised banter. They have a basic plan and a few key setups (like the urn and John's award rant), and just play the little moments by ear.
Python team visits Dachau. Arrived just as they were closing. 'No. You cannot come in.' Graham Chapman said, 'Tell them we're Jewish,' and they let them in. Chapman was the Bad Taste Department of Python. Brilliant!
My favourite Graham story is when he was at the oxford union debate (I think that’s what is called. It was at Oxford and it was a debate, so it will do for now) about nuclear disarmament. Everyone was there in their tuxedos and taking everything very seriously. Except for Graham who turned up dressed as a carrot, and when it came to his turn to talk, he just stood up with a goofy look on his face for his designated time without saying a word and sat back down.
In the late 1960s in London we used to get stoned on hashish and watch Monty Python on the TV and cry with laughter. Too silly dont believe it stop the sketch... classic..
Monty Python on the BBC back in the 70s. My friends and I would go to our homes watch it . Then we'd go to school in the morning and talk about it and cracking up. Good memories. Thanks guys. Even the Dead 1
Binge watching old n new python and the merry men. . The point Cleese makes at some interview about their humor being based on situations, not personalities, lends to its timeless appreciation .
nagahide1313 and the rest of the cast of Cheers and James Burrows who directed cheers, friends, Frasier, will and grace and well pretty much everything else
Throughout youtube I have never seen such a great set of commenters as those gathered here. Very interesting fan club we can all make. Would I be wrong to say that this brings a degree of sadness on us, as something so great is over and there will never be anything like it ever again?
Eric Idle admitted in his book that Terry Gilliam “accidentally” knocking over Graham’s ashes was a gag, and that the audience laughed for four minutes before they realized they had been duped….

You know you were good when most of the comedic greats from the past half century are in the audience fan boying it up so they can say they were there. There was a slight error about the last time they'd all be on stage together, it was more recent than Terry said, the previous occasion was Graham's funeral.
We wont and ever be to get this kinda band of genius dark comedian that most people cant understand. The Urn ash sketch and honourable sketch in this video was well played and i laugh every time i see it. Nowadays we only see one comedian that famous but its almost none we can see a band of comedian together anymore.. Brilliant.
Easily Michael Palin, the funniest one by far, got the better parts, granted, but he got them because he pulled them off so well. Cleese is runner up for me, he got most of the authoritarian parts but was brilliant at them, partly due to his physical stature.
Interesting in that Terry Gilliam is the quiet one, and perhaps the least high profile... but in fact he has arguably had one of the biggest careers in terms of film.
Conque alegría recuerda Idle a Chapman.

G'day Cineyfobia, Perhaps you or one of the commentators can tell me why this upload has been butchered with seemingly arbitrary cuts. How could you take any of this out? How could anyone suggest that what these brilliant comedy minds said was a bit dull stuff and needed taking out of the original performance at Aspen? Also, does anyone know of a full version of this event at Aspen? Given the quality of the material that did make the cut, it would be wonderful to see the whole kit and kaboodle! Cheers, BH
Let’s have a summary of what was best, who, were the most brilliant’ the funniest deepest young British people of the past 200 or 300 years:the Beatles’and Monty Python, two sides of the same coin.
R.I.P. Terry Jones
As John Cleese tweeted, “Two down, four to go.”
It is physically impossible to watch these guys do ANYTHING and not end up feeling happy. Such a wonderful ability they had TOGETHER to entertain - no, not just entertain, but get in your head and make you see everything from a new, refreshed and SMILING viewpoint.
Always look on the bright side of life
9:12 I literally lost it! 😂😂😂 They are truly the best. God bless Graham Chapman. God bless Terry Jones.
Watching this on the day they announced the death of Terry Jones, with a mixture of sadness and appreciation.
Graham Chapman would have loved the ashes bit.
@@brucebaker810 I wouldn't be in the least surprised if he actually put that in his will
John Cleese's eulogy at Grahams funeral was brilliant.
He did.
I couldn’t live without them . They’re always there somewhere at the back of my mind. They educated me, taught me English, informed me about the world, explained it. They deserve to be honored by the whole of humanity, I think.
Imagine having friends that care enough to keep hanging out with you after you die
mine dont even hang out with me while i'm alive lmao
@@AJ-vp9mo my friends are all dead to me.
Oh pish posh I’ve never even met my friends.
Meh - Chapman's only ever been in it for the money. It's why he's dead. It's a tax-exempt lifestyle.
ady nails You have fairly good friends to bury you properly. My friends just threw my body on the side of the road after they choked me to death.
The most brilliant part of the bit with the ashes was having Terry Gilliam, the one nobody was ever watching, be the one to knock over the ashes. Sheer geniuses, all.
Absolute genius sick but amazingly funny........ very clever men
I watch him every chance. I find him fascinating.
I don’t find it to be “sick,” just irreverent. But not overdone.
I agree. I never thought they would surpass the Parrot Sketch but that was incredible!
Was it real
The chemistry between them is insane, best comedy group in history. Loved this.
agreed
I wonder if there will another reunion interview like this, but with two urns. RIP Terry Jones.
"Life's a piece of shit, when you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show, keep 'em laughin' as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you."
Aynd...ALWAYS look o. the bright side of...Everything
I still piss myself when terry Gilliam kicks over the urn, every single time.
Jack bassman One good urn deserves another. I must admit it was hilarious.
9:10
...and then Cleese continues with the story as though nothing happened. Brilliant!
87
Class A actors, made it really look like a stupid accident.
what a great tribute to graham, you couldn't possibly have better friends. i love john cleese's little anecdotes, he gets the greatest amusement out of things most of us pretend not to notice.
What the Beatles were to music, Python was to comedy. There was a world before them..and a different--better one--after. Know what I mean, nudge nudge, wink wink?
And the circle completes with the fact George Harrison help fund their early films, and Eric Idle starred in a tribute parody called the Rutles.
Actually there more like the Rolling Stones of comedy as they've lasted longer & there's 5 of them (now)
Shame to hear about Terry Jones' illness. A funny man amongst equally funny men. I doubt we shall ever see their like again.
Aw no, I just heard about that, horrible disease. And your right, we won't see their like again.
Really sad to hear about Terry Jones.
I wanted to talk to him about Blazing Dragons.
Brian bless Mike Palin for visiting his favorite Terry pretty much every day...I can't see the keyboard right now through my Terry tears
I love it when Michael says "flower arraging" with his Gumby voice
I guess I’ll never tire of this. I’m sure it was scripted, but they are so natural and easy.
I'm thinking it was about 60% scripted, with around 40% improvised banter. They have a basic plan and a few key setups (like the urn and John's award rant), and just play the little moments by ear.
Python team visits Dachau. Arrived just as they were closing.
'No. You cannot come in.'
Graham Chapman said, 'Tell them we're Jewish,' and they let them in.
Chapman was the Bad Taste Department of Python.
Brilliant!
psic88 Cleese told that story at a live show I went to a few weeks back, had me in stitches.
psic88 .thank You very much.I see and understand words of Idle in minute 18'for you. Las traduje como pude.😆👍✌

Judging by Eric Idle´s German, I would say they were not lying that much.
The Producers in a nutshell
Imagine where we would be without these wonderful people! God bless the crazies!!!
The ashes bit got me hooked on Python. Up until that point I'd never laughed so hard at anything in my life.
when they knocked over Grahams urn thought I was going to have a stroke
The part with the ashes has me in stitches every time, lol. If you don't know it, lazy bones, skip to about 9:10 on the video ;-)
Utter genius!
You still are and always will be la "créme de la crème," the very best! I thank you very much
I've seen an ending that was more touching and funny at the same time. What a troupe!
Thank you for sharing this!
Listening to John crack up over Mike's story is the best.
These chaps are the "true" comedy legends!
Anyone see the cast of CHEERS in the front row?
Yes, when John came over relatively recently with his daughter to do a Q&A, we gave them a standing ovation, too.
Binge watching old n new python and the merry men. . The point Cleese makes at some interview about their humor being based on situations, not personalities, lends to its timeless appreciation .
I thoroughly enjoyed this. For some reason, I immediately recognized Woody Harrellson in the crowd at 35:30. Nice sweater Woody.
nagahide1313 and the rest of the cast of Cheers and James Burrows who directed cheers, friends, Frasier, will and grace and well pretty much everything else
Wow, I noticed George Wendt (Norm), but didn't see the others yet (still watching).
They look pretty old here and that was 20 years ago. How time flies!
'I like traffic lights' bizarre and the 70's. Contractual Obligations was the first LP's as a teenager I purchased.
That was a marvelous and unexpected gift. Thank you so very much.
My dream is to travel the world with Michael Palin.
I’ve never laughed so hard in my life when terry knocked over the ashes
I love these boys so much!
I pity the British magistrate of some alternate universe who had to deal with the barrister John Cleese who DIDN'T go into comedy.
Probably the most entertaining thing I've seen on RUclips. Greatest comedy group by far.
When that urn went over I laughed so hard I woke my neighbor. I was watching this around one AM. Oh man they are funny.
Someone with a "Tintin et Milou" sweater can only be good!....
Throughout youtube I have never seen such a great set of commenters as those gathered here.
Very interesting fan club we can all make.
Would I be wrong to say that this brings a degree of sadness on us, as something so great is over and there will never be anything like it ever again?
33:21 "I think Graham wants the award" then he just dumps it in there!
My kind of humor... love it....
Note that George Wendt (played Norm in Cheers) is enjoying the fun at 17:28
Dallas Nyberg and Ted Danson.
I love the Eddie Izzard bit!
Monty Python was a natural progression from The Goon Show. Both had extremely talented people for their respective eras.
So true!
I love the cheers crew in the seats lol.
At 9:40 when the Dust Buster came out, I gave in and laughed my a_ _ off.
I love Gilliam's sweater! :)
OrchestrationOnline Me too Tin Tin I believe ?
OrchestrationOnline i was looking at that too! How does he get a sweater with The Adventures of Tin Tin on it?
it's so rare to find americans who appreaciate tintin
Thanks for talking to me yesterday
As I sit here I am looking at a box set of Tintin dvds on my bookshelf. My grandson age 4 now loves Tintin and Snowy too!
This makes me love Eddie Izzard even more.
Yeah, it was a nice cameo bit that fitted in with the humour of the show. He's actually a good sport.
Eric Idle admitted in his book that Terry Gilliam “accidentally” knocking over Graham’s ashes was a gag, and that the audience laughed for four minutes before they realized they had been duped….
I love these guys. I think it's wonderful how they are jovial about Graham. Check out "Time Bandits" if you haven't already seen it.
Es como si los demás integrantes no estuvieran tan felices con anecdota. Afortunadamente Idle lo recordó
A lot of famous actors in the audience! For example Woody Harrelson. Nice
This just made my breakfast complete! It is good to go back now and again to happy times.

It was the Greatest Show on Earth, The NAAFI was full every night it came on !!
I say monty Python is obscure comedy thats highly silly and addictive.
Heerlijk hoe die Urn wordt omgeschopt.
It was great to see Norm and Woody in the front row laughing at these geniuses on stage. Didn't notice Diane there but she was my favourite character.
Wonderful
had a good laugh watching this. thanks for posting

Simply the best comedy troupe ever
beautifully orchestrated - rave
"Stone fucking dead" XD
I was really enjoying the show, but the editing killed it.
Thank you Bob K.
35:30 Woody Harrelson in the Audience?
Edit: and Ted Danson in the front! Can't believe I missed that!

Ady Adnan Its not as though the talent isn't out there but what producer would allow them to perform in this climate ?
what about whitest kids you know?
I feel like I’m the only one whose favorite python is Eric Idle :(
Easily Michael Palin, the funniest one by far, got the better parts, granted, but he got them because he pulled them off so well. Cleese is runner up for me, he got most of the authoritarian parts but was brilliant at them, partly due to his physical stature.
eric is a musical genius, i think he's brill they all are in their own special way
Leisure
Shut up you
It's definitely hard for me to decide I like all of them!
He's my joint favourite along with Palin :)
My favorite sketch was the Spam Café . It was the first sketch my children age 6 and 3 and aa half would quote . To this day we source it for a giggle
Thanks for sharing. It made my day.
It looked like Robert Klein wasn't in on the spilling of "Graham's" ashes. He looked horrified lol!
the german is adorable....love These guys!
These guys don’t fork around hahaha.
These guys were fantastic, theresnoneasgoodasthesenow
Interesting in that Terry Gilliam is the quiet one, and perhaps the least high profile... but in fact he has arguably had one of the biggest careers in terms of film.
True. Though Cleese and Palin have maintained pretty consistent tv careers.
Legends... the lot of them. =)
Can't believe this was over 20 years ago.....

Life of Brian my most watched movie
20 years ago and it seems like yesterday ... wow i am a fossil
Terry Gilliam's pink shoes! Love 'em!
These guys are legends. Just ask them.
I saw Ted Danson right at the start, and then I saw "Norm" too.
6 people having fun.
I loved the ashes!!! ASHES ASHES ASHES!!!!
Brilliant as always
Terry G's sweater wins. And I want it.
Oh yeah, Aspen used to be a thing with comedy in the nineties
I think they got the movie mixed up at the end, the song is from Life of Brian, not Meaning of Life.
But it WAS the meaning of life!
Edward Izzard was always my favourite Python.
Atención a partir del minuto 18'...Anécdota de los chicos en Alemania. Extraordinaria. Grande Graham. Y brillante Idle por recordarla. Y con que alegría habla de Chap. 😆😃😘😜
where is the full version?
I rather wish Carol Cleveland had been given a cameo in this. I always liked seeing hers.
