Who do you think got the better guitar sound? Which one do you prefer? A or B?
A. Just a lot brighter.
I liked mix A, I also chose mix A on the SMG drum video.
I prefer mix B
B for me.
Mix A for the drums, Mix B for the guitars. There's something special goin on w/ mix b's guitars. Like i think i hear a double track w/ an amp set up w/ low gain to hear more attack, or is that the attack from the bass?
I feel the differently mixed bass was more influential than the guitar sound itself. Never the less very entertaining : )
I'd go with mix A: it's kind of dark but it holds a lot of detail
What is amazing is how different things have turned out. It's basically the same riffing but mixed totally differently. Each, though, has its good points.
That's exactly what we wanted to convey in these two videos - every audio engineer has their own unique style!
@@LEWITT-audio Yes! If you're familiar enough with someone's style you can even tell on a new song you've never heard before.
There are things I preferred in both mixes but I would go with A overall.
I gotta go with Mix B on this one. It sounds so much fuller/rounder of a tone. On the flip side, Mix A was a more balanced mix with the drums. But for guitar tone, Mix B, 100%.
Mix A has much better clarity to me, although it feels a bit crunchy and could do with more gain. Mix B is kinda muffled and overly mid-heavy, but has a better gain level. I'd go with Mix A personally.
Hm I’m thinking mix B was you guys and mix A was Glenn. I’m still a bit confused when it comes to re amping, but I’ll figure it out eventually! Top stuff and absolutely awesome sounds especially considering the time limits you set.
Both reamped guitars sound good. I prefer the guitar (s) on Mix B, to me it sounds far more accentuated. Also the crappy drums on Mix A begin to disturb me... I think Mix B is the drums and the guitar Mix done by Glenn. It simply makes more sense to me, I believe I can hear a direction, where this mix heads to. Oh that will be funny if I am completely wrong 😱😂
Love the width of Mix B, however Mix A gets the replay value for me. I think of Mix B like a live venue sound of an amp I would want to play through.
I like the separation/space of mix B more, but overall prefer the glue and cohesiveness of Mix A.
The bass is really upfront on mix B. I prefered A this time as it was smoother and a little less raw
Recording and mixing guitars in 30 minutes? How crazy is that?
Very
Reamping. Guitar track is already provided.
@@kanoaikawach I have a feeling that sometimes when men see a woman's face in youtube comments then they HAVE TO share their input. Mansplaining at its finest lol. Did they set up a microphone in front of a (I'm too afraid to say amp now) CABINET and hit the record button to record a track in their DAW, or not? But I get your point, the performance was already captured before, so that saved time for sure.
Guitars are better in Mix A to my ears (but I like the drums in B here).
First off.. I dig Lewitt mics.. 2nd, I think both mixes have their merits.. I think mix A in this video is the same as mix B in the drum video. I also think that mix is Glens mix.. I like the focus of that mix however i really dig the slappiness of the bass of mix B in this video.. Again both mixes are fun and I'd love to give it a shot at mixing these instruments! Just within the last 2 1/2 years I have been recording and mixing my own music as well.. I definitely want to get some Lewitt mics but I'm not quite at that stage yet.. Great videos!
Thank you for your comment! We're glad to hear you liked the video and that you're planning on getting some LEWITT mics! 😊
I use the 440 and 220 and they sound great!
I like the guitars on Mix A. They have a "heavier" sound to me. Both are pretty decent tho!
I feel A has a better more balanced mix overall but I'm kind of digging some of the things going on with the guitar and bass on mix B.
I love the flanging when the camera walks around the amps
Loved the Bass on B, the guitars too but the drums in A were more to my taste.
The guitar on Mix A is awesome!
The overall mix was better with mix A, but the tone was a bit better with mix B. I think some more time on mix B would lead to a better overall track, but the polish on A gives it a win for me.
Okay so here’s where you hear the decisions of the drum mix really affecting the moves for everything else. I liked the drum mix “Mix A” on the last video, which is now mix B on this one, but I think the fact that they were so up front and aggressive necessitated mixing the guitars and bass similarly and the end result is not good at all in my opinion. The more natural sound of drum mix “Mix B” (now mix A) allowed for much smoother guitars that could sit back a little further and blend better in the mix without having to fight the drums for space.
It’s very eye-opening to me. Taken on their own the drums sounded a little better one way, but it forced some decisions in the guitars and bass that I really don’t like. And the more natural sounding drum mix that at first sounded weak now leaves room for a much more pleasing guitar and bass tone that makes the entire mix sound much better and actually makes me like the drums more now. It’s a lot to take in and think about, and it’s definitely something I’ll be keeping in mind the next time I’m mixing a song.
I didn't really mind the bass in mix b. Maybe a tad high but I kinda like the effect of hearing more frequencies from the bass itself. So yeah, I favor mix b.
With the drums I had no definite winner, but with the guitars (& bass) it's Mix A for me! Again, cool to see a little bit of insight on both processes! Thanks for this.
I think that maybe the guitar tone is better on mix A, because mix B sounds like it's relying a little more on the other instruments in the mix for presence and overall top end. Kinda hard to tell what the guitar sound really is. B does sound like a better, or at least more top ended mix, or closer to what we normally hear anyway, but I also didn't really like the spitty bass that seemed like it often would peak and sound out of place. It covered up the guitar too much when it did that. It sounded as if Mix A would be better if mastered, but Mix B sounds a little better right now.
I like mix a, the attack of the notes are solid. Mix b is darker but that bass though!
guitars in Mix A sounded "woofy", but the overall mix seemed better...as others have said, the bass in Mix B kinda' ruined it even though the guitar sounded way better
Mix A was the winner for me.
Overall it was more consistent and balanced.
I hope this becomes a series, man!!!!
Guitar sound I like Mix A, it's heavier and crisp and dark. B sounds a bit hollow; however, with the overall mix and room for other frequencies, I prefer Mix B because you can hear the bass and other instruments well, but as this is a tone challenge, I prefer A.
As soon as I heard the lewitt guy speak on glens video, I said “I bet they use meinl cymbals” lol.
Mix A. This was fun guys!
Very brave of everyone involved!
Mix A - LEWITT
Mix B - SSS
Mix B actually has bass in it. And I have to go with Mix B bc it ended up being fuller.
Amazing work for only half and hour, but I think A is the better of the two for me.
Mix A sits in the mix better. A bit less mid-range than B, but it works.
Thats Mix a in guitars and rather mix b in drums for me. Depends on speakers im using. Waiting for the great disclosure. Great video idea! Cheers!
Why didn't you level-match the mixes?
i go with B in this one sounds super clear. i little to much of the bass guitar but still good
I commented on this mix off already..but hat's off to Lewitt Mic's. A mix is a personal thing and what you want your ear to hear through your mix. Lewitt very effectively captured audio. I don't own any Lewitt mic's..but they sound good to me. It's like comparing apples to oranges..but to get to the bottom line..does the mic work? Kudos Lewitt.
Thank you very much for these kind words!
Mix B the panning is definitely strange to my ear. With vocals it might not sound so weird it could make the guitars sit in the mix but as an instrumental the rhythm guitars lack presence. I like Mix A the tone sounds quite modern and mixed really balanced its similar to how I mix my own stuff
Gotta go with B for the mix. Lots of separation and detail. But both guitar sounds were great for different reasons.
I'm going with mix A as Glenns.
HOLY SMOKES GLENN!
Mix A is a lot tighter and I like that.
The Mix B guitar sat better in the overall mix. The guitar in Mix A had a little more definition but didn't stand out in the mix. (Was this the dreaded EQ out the mids?)
Mix A by far is the one for me!!! B was a little prickly with the bass track and dull with the guitar tracks.
A for sure!
I think It's B because it sounds more full and A just sounds too thin and I think Glenn likes something that sounds more full than thin. Please don't bash me if I'm wrong. I'm not trying to say that this is his mix I'm just guessing.
Prefer guitar tone in B, but I hate the bass tone personally. So I gotta go with A, where the bass sounded super tight.
Once again A I think is Glenn tone but with lewitt drum mix. B is more raw and muddy but with Glenn drum mix.
A just has an all round better vibe and nicer balance. B seems kind of wooly in the low mids somewhere in 250-500. A is more 'classic' and B is more 'modern' so it's a matter of taste also, but purely based on the mix, A wins easy
Both mixes have their pros and cons. I wonder how they would sound mixed together.
Mix B just doesn't have enough gain on the guitars for my taste. too marshall-y sounding. I do like that i can hear a clanky bass in mix b that sounds great though. ultimately, i'd like to hear A's guitars, with B's bass and drums.
(B's Drums are a bit basic, and i would like to hear just a little more of the natural drum sound coming through, but i still think it works better overall than A's which are just a bit too woofy and loose for this track).
i was definitely shaking my head when the lewitt guys were putting that 640 on the guitar cabinet. i've tried the same with mine. it doesn't work. possibly the worst guitar cabinet mic ever. lol. great kick mic though. definitely my go-to. I haven't tried the 640 on a bass guitar cab yet. but i'd guess it'd be pretty bad.
everybody did really great for 30 minutes, especially the folks that haven't worked with that gear before, or in that room before... which i think covers everybody?
Glenn was on Mix B. Couldn’t say which I prefer. Good job guys.
Mix A : Glenn
Mix B : Lewitt
Wish mix b had a bit more mmmmph to the guitar low end
I like B just needs a tighter dist, maybe some maag eq.
Mix A is a touch better. The guitars are tighter and have more meat. The lewitt guys didn't use theboost tho, as far as I gotit :D
Guitars in B are better in themselves, but the overall mix of A is way better. So my vote goes to A: their guitars work with that mix. Guitars in B got a bit eaten up by the bass. Side note: B was louder.
Mix A… the Mix B is good too, but the mix A is very good!
both we muddy, but 2 stepped it up a bit.1 was Glenn, is my guess. 1 was my guess for Glenn, as it was dull. Maybe the room influencing, as he never mixed in there.
Its hard to judge because Mix B is much more in your face but if you think about when you put the vocals in it, Mix B will be much more clutered and Mix A little more open
A is glued together much better IMO, but could use a bit more midrange (although that might obscure the attack on the bass even more), and B is out front while not masking the bass much at all, making it sound less cohesive. I’d probably go with A overall.
Also, I should be getting a pair of 140 Airs tomorrow and I’m pretty stoked about it.
Very well observed! 👌 Have fun with your new LEWITT mics! Do you know what you are going to record first?😊
@@LEWITT-audio I’ve got a bad room with good drums and going to have to do some work first, possibly even 3D printing an x/y-ish mic clip, but then overheads on a big ol’ Catalina Club Rock kit that will be pummeled into submission.
Sounds awesome!😄
@@LEWITT-audio Depending how this goes I might be saving up for that dual-element kick mic too. Still gotta do some research but on paper, that seems like a hell of a kick mic.
Yes!😉 It opens up many creative possibilities.
I prefer mix a. I could listen to that for a lot longer.
Cool but where can we download the files?
A
Both are great. A was quieter but it felt tighter and more well rounded. B was great too but it was really dark sounding to my ears.
Weird how that bass sound is so different between the mixes. Will have to go again with mix A. Not an easy chose though.
Mix A!
Howdy,
I'll go with Mix A = Glenn. Mix B sound more boxy or nasally to my ears, which I have never heard on Glenn's mixes.
Both work, but I prefer Mix A.
Cheers!
Bass mix is way better on Mix B --- But the guitar sound is way more heavy and cool on Mix A so I gotta give it to Mix A
Idk, they each had their pros and cons but I guess B as it sounded clearer to me. The guitars had way too much mids though.
Edit: shit on second listen, A would probably be better for a full mix with vocals added on. They just don’t have any presence to my ears in this mix
Who panned Glenn's lav?
This is way harder to call than the drum video! A sounded great but B sounded kinda unique. I could hear the bass players pick or something. Not sure if that was mixed differently or if it was the shape of the guitar sound that made it stick out more.. hmm.. I'll go for A.
I thought A was better, although it needed some brightening. B was louder, but the gain was a bit weak and just didn't sound as good as A.
so... I think everybody wants to know, what monitors are those? I'm sure it's mostly the room, but it wouldn't work without great monitors too.
These are custom-made for that specific room. You can check out our video about the acoustic treatment and monitors here: ruclips.net/video/EB6dfpGsPtY/видео.html
@@LEWITT-audio Woah! well, that certainly explains it. I'll definitely check out that video, thanks!
One mic pointing down towards the floor one almost center of the speaker.
I think A is Glenn's mix again.. I don't recall him even making the guitars so full of mids. And he usually doesn't make the bass so punchy.
As for overall best sound.. it's a matter of taste. A sounds more 'classic' so I like it more. It's more suitable for metal, I think?
Drums on mix B and guitars on mix A.. the guitars on mix b just sound rough to me😬
Mix B was Glenn and Mix A was the Lewitt Team
I felt Mix A was a little dark, but held together quite well. Mix B sounded a bit crisper, but also sounded like it was mixed by a bass player. As much as I generally prefer a brighter sound, I think I will go A on this one
Guitars on A by a little bit. They sit better in the mix, though the mix itself is narrower. I like the spacing and the drums better in B but the really strong midrange in the guitar lost me a bit.
The B track is the best. It's not only loader but the highs & lows mix perfectly with the drum track. Brunchy, Biting, while still throwing the gut punch of metal in it's glory. ---- Say if you get a chance check out this guitarist named Damian Salazar. Fucking amazing BUT I don't know if he could fit into a Band. Ego may be to big but I think if he could connect with the right people ? Check out his street performance's, (that's how he makes money). Blow your mind with some of them.
Mix B is my preference here.
Put a tube screamer in the amps effects loop . Need less modulation it thins the overall tone. On the Lewitt guys sound..
Definitely A, a bit less punchy but way more defined, sits well in the mix. B sound boxy and 2D to me, even if it has more punch than mix A
Mix A again. For both guitars and drums.
@Glenn: We need more gain .... Colin: ALL THE GAIN! SLAYER! METAL ZONE" NO MIDS! ALL THE GAIN!!
I liked both, but the bass seemed too far forward in B which was distracting.
As far a purely guitar sound goes, I’d say A had a bit more Polish but B had a great gnarly tone, so I go with B
Was mix B on mix A from last times drums and vice versa?! I'm so confused. I liked A better on this one. B needed a bit more gain or overdrive.
I am listening through crappy laptop speaker but I preferred A, it was close though.
Mix:A, in both cases, drums and guitar. Clearer, more articulate, no mud/veil, and louder.
Mix B had some strange pops that sounds like is coming from the bass, they sometimes fit well in the mix but every second pop is bit out of the place, guitar sound is full and rich, so no complaints there, Mix A sounds more tight and more even, it's not jumping all over the place.
to add to this, I think that some sort of blend of A and B would be best solution
I like A for guitar, but prefer more audible bass on B. Guitar is a bit too forward/loud compared to drums in B.
It's tough to call which tone was better. A was very creamy and thick sounding. But where B wasn't as thick, it gave better clarity in the notes. As much as I like the thickness of A, I think I lean more towards B as it not only has a bit more clarity but gives more room for the other instruments to breathe. So I would have to give the final verdict to Mix B takes it for guitar tone.
I found mix A a lot clearer and tight, but the leads on B were pretty delicious
Gtrs are tougher choice than drums! I prefer Gtrs on A, but still a fan of more open raw sounding drums on B! Honestly, I wouldn’t throw either mix out of bed for eating crackers! I❤️ #LewittMics
A+
is there any way to download the multi tracks for this? It's been two months and there is still no download link :(
Hi there, please reach out to spectremedia.ca/ for the multitracks. Cheers from Vienna!😊
For starters, if each team kept working on the same mix they did for the drums, I guess Glenn did Mix A from the drum video.
For the guitars, I'm not sure which I like better yet.
I think the guitars on Mix B has more presence, but maybe lack a bit of distortion/saturation to my take. For that I might lean for Mix A in this comparison.
From what I heard, Mix A from the drum video is Mix B from this one.
So it seems Glenn did Mix B for this video.
Again, I really like the drum sound, but I'm not sure for the Guitar tone.
Well see when it's revealed in the end.
In the drum video, I'll keep my vote on Glenn working on Mix A in the drum mix video, and probably on B in this one.
Cheers from France! 🍻
mix a sounds better to my ear, at least if I had to choose, im listening with akg studio headphones through my Focusrite Scarlett interface
