People commenting on the greens do not realize how new this course was. It has become one of the gems of the PNW along with the Bandon facilities. This grass takes time to truly fill in and be mature enough to handle being burned out in US Open type conditions.
If they would have played it here 2-3 or so years later it would be in the rotation. If you get a chance to play it, do!

Anyone that knows golf, knows it played exactly how any links style course can play, and that's brown and fast ! Check out the 06 Open at Hoy lake or the famous "duel in the sun" 1977 at Turnberry. BROWN AND FAST!!! Unfortunately they pulled all the fescue greens and put in poanna greens, so now they probably cannot host another US Open there as the pros would shoot lights out on such softer greens and the USGA doesn't want that, and neither do I. I hope I am wrong and they bring it back to the great championship course that it is. It was one of the most exciting US Opens in years.

NBC... The blueprint is RIGHT HERE. Building drama, letting the camera linger, microphones and cameras all over the place, commentators letting the moment breathe, THIS WAS A DECADE AGO. You make golf an entertaining TV product by TELLING A STORY. With laughable "innovations" like Playing Through you COMPLETELY lose the plot! They showed multiple shots from leaders side by side with gratuitous Olympics promos on a golf course where a signal yard or slightest angle of bounce is the difference between birdie and carnage. Can you imagine a Fox broadcast of Bryson v Rory today? The golf was incredible, but 90% of the time it doesn't elevate the viewing experience in spite of the poor presentation like it did today.

Chambers Bay was an absolute joke. The US Open never should have been held there. The players complained because the course was not worthy of a US Open. The Greens were awful, horribly bumpy and inconsistent. On top of that the USGA screwed around far too much with changing the way holes played between par fours and par fives. Nice commentary when Spieth and Grace are teeing off on 18.....lol. Greg Norman says....these are important tee shots. Thanks Greg. Then Joe Buck starts talking about whether the hole should play as a par 4 or a par 5. I mean, you could call it a par 3, or a par 8.....what difference does it make what you call it? Joe Buck is talking as if it really matters. You don't have to call it a par anything. It is just a hole. Play it and whatever your score is, it is. Norman then chokes when DJ chokes...doesn't say anything....missed a perfect opportunity to say something.....silence. So horrific.

Complainers about the greens here completely ignored the facts that proximity to hole was closer in this U.S. Open than in the previous 10 opens. The Open at Chambers also had the longest average driving distance than the previous 20 U.S. Opens, by more than 22 yards. And, most importantly, the scoring average among the players who made the cut was the lowest in the 2015 Open than the previous 21 U.S. Opens. So, I don't want to hear another word about the greens, which, by the way, have been remodeled and upgraded since 2019.

It was a horrible spectator experience to be honest. The fan routing was a total mess. Felt like you had to hike to Mordor and back just to get across a fairway. Also the broadcast was a little weird with it being Fox's first go at a major. Something about the camera angles & course itself has a disorienting effect. I think its all the zoomed in shots from above, and the lack of trees or other landmarks.
