Is this mp3 decoder specifically 5v or 5v/12v? Cause I'm doing the same project but using 5v/12v mp3 decoder and It power on only for a few seconds than It shutdown for low battery I think.

Some decoder support 5v-12 regulator.on that case you should remove that.on vcc line have diode and capacitor.just jumper the line cut trace.

If you have 12v battery then you can install voltage regulator dc to dc buck converter and set it to 5v range and then you will get 4.5 hours backup
