I had a 1998 Mercury Villager that was wrecked in about 2001 and I replaced it with a 1999 QUEST. THE REVISIONS IN 1999 corrected all of my issues with the 1998. The new left side sliding made a big difference. The added engine power from the engine being bored out 10% made the vehicle go from a bit slow to just fine. There were a couple of inches added to second row leg room. Mine had a center console VCR/TV which the kids loved. I liked the two level cargo area in the back. Despite being 200 lbs heavier than the 2998, fuel economy was the same or one mpg better than 1998. I sold it in 2006 with 78,000 hard miles on it. The family I sold it to ran it for another 10 years.

I wouldn't call the '99 Quest and Villager the "last true minivan" in its time. The Toyota Sienna, also new for 1998, was about the same size, a step down from the almost full size Previa. The "large" minivans were the Honda Odyssey and Ford Windstar, new for 1999, and to a lesser extent, the Chrysler minivans.

@@christopherhernandez78 I’m not talking about today, in the 80s and 90s they were one of the most innovative car companies so saying they were always behind is straight up wrong lmao they were miles ahead of Honda and Toyota in there hay day before Renault
