The chaotic battles are the best part in my opinion its like those medieval or fantasy movies where one army charging at each other just because it looks cool, me and my brothers like your gladihopper game and we are really looking forward to it 😁👍 good luck ❤
Haha, nice! It's certainly a love/hate kind of thing. I might give the player some basic orders to give the AI so that you can decide which kind of combat you want to have. A more structured turn-based one or complete chaos like now. Thank you so much! :)
Wow, I can't say enough about the game you made, it would be great if there were more to add. I hope there will be an Ai companion where you can customize the ai you recruited depending on your relationship level, maybe if you have been fighting together for a long time. Also put that you can leave those who were recruited in your faction to defend and they will level up. Divide the one you can be with where the recruit can come or leave the base, Mercenary who can only fight to death or disband, then npc who is willing to join depending on the story of how you helped them and when you reach the high trust in the kingdom or because of the quest and they are the only ones you can rename. Someone can also leave, betray your group or spy when you recruit and every recruit has every story if you can trust it, maybe it's just small details in the game that will make it better. Then there are tactics before the battle starts where who will fight in front or who is only in the back and then if you command the ai which opponent is the priority target so that the fight is realistic because you are the leader. also added a bow that you can switch weapon and for weak ai in the back bow depending on how many arrows there are. Wild dogs or wolves that can be tamed if you have an item of food that can fight with dog armor. Then different enemies will be encountered like a group of wild wolf spiders, dragons in caves, slimes, and other races maybe. Shield Bash is also possible. Then Day And night with a clock and then it is written on the map how many days it is in the game and then that day there are interesting events or festivals happening. It's just my suggestion that I can see it in the game so it's really like a fantasy, because these games can only be seen in computer games, so these are masterpieces, so good luck, your game is so good even though it's like that.

Have you thought about separating the big battles into depth layers? With some atmospheric perspective and parallaxing it could make them more visually readable and less combat-spammy. (obviously, you'd have to add controls to "travel" between layers) Knowing what happens in layers "in front of the screen" could be tricky. I guess you could experiment with a "radar" display (like Warband has). Or possibly a button to "turn around", which would switch sides and turn the background into the foreground. Or a toggle keybind for sneaking a look into a foreground layer that would display over your current layer transparently.
Thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, that would be an option, but I think it's a bit too late for that at this point. Would have to redesign too many things and I'm not certain it would be for the better... It's pretty nice like this, and if I make the AI a bit smarter so they avoid creating a big battle blob then it should be even better.

You could make the group battle like feudalism 2(camera), worked really well for a 2d battle. TO me would make the group battle 100% better and less confuse and make me really want the game
Yeah, I considered that, but I went for the way I did it in Gladihoppers. Too late to change now, unfortunately. And it works pretty well like this in my opinion!
very cool, the larger battles should consist of just a 1 on 1 fight, but everytime you defeat an enemy or one defeats you, another soldier pops out seamlessly without transitions, their healthbar switches to the current soldier, to continue on the fights sort of like a pokemon battle with stacked units*, i think it could really make battles slightly longer and a little bit more enguaging as you could easily do 10 battles in a row, and if one spawns as a roman soldier out of a group of hoplite farmers i think it could make for some very fun scenario's or enguagements.
I was recently recommended this video and it looks fantastic with the pixel art as well the simple yet engaging gameplay seen thus far. I wonder if down the line you’ll have plans for multiplayer someday
I'm not sure that I will/can make it more strategic, but I will try to make the AI take turns fighting a bit more, and make it so tired warriors go in the back... Also once I've added ranged troops (people with bows/crossbows as well as those who are primarily made to be units focused on throwing weapons) that will add another dynamic to the game. I plan on keeping them in the back too, but still keep the non-collisions so that you can force your way past the infantry line and attack ranged units, if you so wish...

Please add archers, javelins and cavalry. - archers shoot up and have a secondary weapon (knife/sword); they prioritize running away - javeliners shoot straight and have a secondary weapon (spear); bonus vs armored units; they prioritize using all ammo before engaging in melee. - cavalry moves fast and deals x2 damage with charges; after each charge is stunned for 1 second then runs back a lot, then charges again.

Been having a blast with the bigger battles this update brings, though my only complaint would be shields, be it broken or dropped from fallen foes blocking the view of corpses. Not a problem on 1 on 1 fights though during a 25v25 moshpit, it could be jarring to see an ocean of shields (especially Brar and Aziv ones) completely covering the would be pile of dead bodies on the ground.
Finally I searched ages for a game where you can make your own faction and here some small ideas : 1. Add ideologies like Feudalism , Legalism , Absolutism 2 . Add a skull that talk somewhere in a mountain 3. Make the flags be customiseable like manor lords
Yeah, you can lower the max battle size to whatever number you prefer, but I'll also improve the 10v10 battles to make them less of a "smash simulator"

Since the Vikings would be a Confederation you should make the faction be made of smaller ones and if they get defeated too many times then the confederation dissolves but it can have like 2 remaining towns and the holy empire could probably use basic tactics while the independent city that's got Dacian / Thrace gear could use fresh fighters to distract the enemy while more elite squads go to take the city of important points and the kingdom that's probably based of Arab countries should be extremely rich and afford to give even it's recruits some decent gear (I forgot the names but I do hope that helps)
i hope u add siege Feature So First u need to buy siege equipment on Shops/merchant and u can siege the castle,city And it will take 10 second before u get on battlefield I also want a "manage your castle" Feature Which u can manage the defense and if ur castle is sieged instead of 10 second it will be 20 second siege time because u added defense I hope u add this Feature on blades of deceron

You can do everything from 1v1 to 10v10 by changing it in the settings :)

Perhaps you could reposition the character models infront of the dropped shields and weapon during death in the next update.
