Mint guitars are great but there is something about a older guitar showing its wear that grabs my attention, the sound is great on this one. Nice pick Mark.
Boooom , now thats what I call epic sound , it just booms and chimes , amazing how an 80 year old guitar can sound so amazing , it's certainly nothing fancy , I mean probably Brazilian rosewood neck and bridge but no binding , simple mahogany , beat to crap , it's beautiful , and that sound , so sweet. Thats 3 for 3 epic winners in 19' , thanks guys , long live GOTD
cant wait for my couple years old j-45 to look like this, there is something special about those broken in guitars, every crack has something to tell you, every piece of wear has something unique, just like this guitar - its previous owner had his own plaing style - closer to the neck picking and you can clearly see it, i love it
Love your ‘Flat Top’ Friday Mark, as I live in Melbourne Australia I get this on a Saturday morning. Always watch out for it. Also, loved your ‘Bloopers’ and ‘Outtakes’. P.S. wish I could bang out those tunes like you do! Cheers Jimmy Johnson (JJ). 👍🏻🎶
That was a damn beautiful rendition of country roads. I rarely sing along but just started without realizing it. Thanks to Me First I kinda remember the words..... Can't ever go wrong with Led Zeppelin either. Great episode!
1938, would be so cool to learn the history of this guitar, who had it over the years? Where was it played? It's 80 years old, imagine all that it saw in those years.
how could anyone dislike any of these videos. must be just a couple of random people passing through. who like kickin the dog as they walk by. for no reason i might add
beautiful sounding instrument Mark.....thank you for playing Country Roads.....you can play John Denver any time as far as I'm concerned......cheers mate.
I just want to thank the guy who advised me on restringing this superb guitar. Can't find his post, but I said that I was disappointed with this guitar with D.'Addorio 80/20 12's phosphor bronze strings. He said that if I try Elixir 80/20 bronze 11's it would totally transform the sound of this instrument. Well, after trying them, I can say that it's true. The superb bass response is complemented by the the bright tone of the strings, and there is no need to use a thumb pick to bring out the low frequencies. My J35 is just the best now, and will only get better as it nears the 10 year peak for Sitka spruce tops. Thanks for the tip guy, wherever you are.
I absolutely love hammered flat tops! My favorite hammered flat top belongs to Monte Montgomery - that poor Alvarez is the king of vibe. I've touched it, I've smelled it...it's downright scary...like some medieval weapon that slayed many living things.
Some of the plastic those tuner buttons are made of literally vaporizes (turns into gas) and dissipates away. Same reason why some pickguards shrink over time. Surprised the buttons on this guitar are still intact. Probably not for long, though!
NEW SHIRT DESIGN.. “”TICKLE IT WITH THE FINGERS; BANG ON IT WITH THE FLATPICK””... PS- HAPPY NEW YEAR MR.CARLOS GUITARLOS,90042. AND GET THE FUNNY GUY STALLONE BACK ON HERE. LIKE A ZIT, HE GROWS ON YA.... ML93455

Fingerpicking- country roads take me home, john denver
Flat pick- gallows pole by led zeppelin
1938 ... damn, that was built right to still be working. Nice playing sir.
Had a bad day today - I really needed a Flat-top-Friday!
Nothing like a pre-war Gibson to turn your day around.
I hope today is much better for you. Take care:)
I can relate... listening to this Gibson sure does take your mind off of your problems....
Beautiful sounding guitar. Those round marks on the back look like plastic bubble wrap was used to store it.
I’ve never had a Gibson, never had a Martin either, but I live 6 miles from The Martin Factory and museum. 😉someday.. Nice playing my friend ✊🏼🎸
Man I sure love the fire stripe pickguard on 35’s! This guitar sounds phenomenal as well!
J35s are so awesome.....they're like a gift from gibson.....
Always impressed with your guitar playing Mark!
That Gibson has Massive Mojo! Thank you Mark
That’s a great sounding guitar

This kinda got to me as country roads was the first song I ever sang and played at the same time, it was kinda a milestone for me in playing guitar
Love the kid in the background saying "Dah Dah" at :42 - reminds me of my 17 month old daughter doing the same.

I can dig it.
As others have said, that Gibson sounds good!
Great picking. That was beautiful
First time I ever would consider taking a Gibson instead of a Martin. Love everything about this guitar. Those high strings sound almost banjo-like.
Great sound!

Fire flattop Friday. Great job finger picking Mark! loved it.
Episode 681 - 4th J-35, 3rd from '38, two natural, one sunburst. Very nice!
"Sorry about the Thumpin' Thursday skip"
Nobody is hurt, Mark. Don't worry xoxox
Hey, I'm a bass player and I'm not hurt! Just keep the Thumpin' Thursdays for the "rare, iconic and weird."
1938, would be so cool to learn the history of this guitar, who had it over the years? Where was it played? It's 80 years old, imagine all that it saw in those years.
watch a lot of guitar videos... got to say I watch these more because of you and your camera manner, and the way you play guitar is just great.
The oxblood leather is nice, and the guitar is beat up because it was well favored
Way to go Mark. Nice job and choices on those songs
Sounds amazing...age and condition notwithstanding!
It's only my opinion but age and condition arenthe reason for such ansound
Wonderful sound.
Your a beast Mark..! Great attack on both songs 🔥

I got to say it Mark beautiful job on both tunes but dude Country Roads was off the hook great job young man .
Glad you left all the noise in at the begining. Sounds kinda like a guitar shop. Or shoe store, but who cares? Love it.
Dude you were wailing on that guitar big time, sounded awesome.
I love that Sound! The Fingerpickin reminds me of a Banjo =)
Where do you get those Jackets? Gimmie a link. I dig brown leather.
If that thing could talk, man.
I love those old guitars.
Each one has its own distinctive "personality"...
Great guitar of the day! One of my favourite days is always gonna be Flat Top Friday! However! Gotta do a Maton!

1) John Denver's Country Roads.......... Still, the prettiest state in America
2) Gallows Pole
No doubt, the most beautiful place i've ever seen, with Western Maryland and Northern VA a close second
GasserGlass.... The funny thing is that the writers thought they were in Western Maryland when they composed the tune.
California is pretty darn pretty too
Figgie Smalls Sonoma Counties’ Coast and the surrounding backroads during the spring? One of the most beautiful views in the world.
@@figgiesmalls1760 yup, been there a few times
You can’t go wrong with a pre war Gibson!
