Lived here back in 1960.Worked at the Wellesly Colliery for a time before joining the RAF in 1965. Good to see this film. Brings back good memories. Thanks for showing it.
I came here by searching for the origin of the word "metil" since it is also an old word in Germany and in the town Eisenach, there is a stone/old castle build on a metil stone. I suppose it derives from metal. Somehow it reminds me also on mystery and magic. - This is a lovely footage of old times. Although I never was on the big isle, it gives me a feeling how people lived and I feel almost if I was there. It is a joy to see the people posing and children playing. Thank you for sharing a part of your history!
Brilliant footage! Moved away about 8yrs ago but was a Methil man for 30yrs! Great place to stay! Town full of proper hardmen and grafters! At least it was! The town produced many good boxers and even world class fighters in other disciplines! Lots of the buildings still standing but many gone now! The old Bayview football ground home to east fife FC gone many years ago.
Having to move with my parents after the Michael disaster have lived in Lancashire for 50 yrs but to see my home county brings memories flooding back. thanks for taking the time to produce this very sentimental journey.
What a wonderful video. Most, if not all, of those grand folk are no longer with us but here are their amazing moments for us to enjoy. THANK YOU. Stoozer.
Thank you very much for posting this. I never thought I'd see those scenes again. I was brought up in Leven but all the locations were great to see again.
The second boxer is one of the Foy Brothers and the third is Alex Duffy RIP. Denbeath Club was run by a Adam Smith who trained a lot of lads in the art of Boxing.
I used to play on swings like those kids, a wee bit up the road in Perth. I was born there in 1955, but my Gran was from Cupar, have many relatives there, I always looked forward to visits nas the chipshop near the Great Auntie was magic - a fish supper you could live off for a week!!! Fish so fresh, delivered in by local boats. Ma Pops, Grandad, was frae Eberdeen, ken, didnae unnerstan a wurd tha loon sid........They bmoved to the middle, Perth. Ye Gods, I could be a bystander in one of these
I grew up there in poverty in the50s 60s got out in 74 went to Australia not poor now ,been back a few times still no jobs there for every one but it’s ok I suppose
Are you happier now than when you left? Poverty doesn't equate to unhappiness. People can work from home now the times are a changing. There is no need to be in a office people can work from anywhere there is a internet connection.
