I have taken your online course for oil pastels and that changed how I see my work. However this video was your best so far for me. It was clear and very easy to follow and inspired me once again. I love the way you teach without all the fuss and high energy. I feel that your teaching is real and I actually feel more confident with my art. I love the small sketches with oil pastels but struggle with the middle tones and bringing in light. Also I have found another oil pastel from the states called ARRTX which are fabulous. Not as good as the Holbein but really good at a reasonable price. It’s important for me because I live in Australia and art supplies are nearly double the price. Thanks again and look forward to the next video.
Hi Cara! I so appreciate your comments here... means so much to me that my efforts help to change people's understanding of themselves and their artwork. Many thanks for the tip about ARRTX oil pastels... am unaware of them but will get some to try! Mid tones and light... do you mean it's hard to get them to come occur in the work you are making with oil pastels? 🙂🙏
@@mariannemitchellwholeart yes. I find that I make lovely texture and colours but a lot in the middle values. Not muddy but I know that it isn’t right for me. When I try to add lighter or brighter colours in they just get lost.
Thank you so much for this video/explanation. I found it more than helpful and so interesting to see the beautiful piece you created and thoughts on how and why it emerged.
Hi Gill Pitt! I so appreciate your comments and glad my presentation was helpful and offered answers to those perennial questions of Why and How... keeps me going with what I am doing! Cheers!
What is that tape you are using again. I don’t see it in the materials list. It sounded like gas tape. ? Thank you for the demo. Have you you ever found a way to protect oil pastel or get it to dry?
Many thank for your interest Maggie! The tape id Gaffers tape ("Gaff Tape") and can be purchased on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Professional-Premium-Grade-Gaffer-Power/dp/B00LMNYFHI/ref=d_pd_di_sccai_cn_sccl_2_1/145-2583549-7131755?pd_rd_w=4JO9a&content-id=amzn1.sym.e13de93e-5518-4644-8e6b-4ee5f2e0b062&pf_rd_p=e13de93e-5518-4644-8e6b-4ee5f2e0b062&pf_rd_r=NTESVD9678Z37H2NPNXX&pd_rd_wg=iNubs&pd_rd_r=381f0e0e-f350-4256-9987-5a00389c23ae&pd_rd_i=B00LMNYFHI&th=1 Oil pastels must be framed behind glass. I also store them between wax paper or glassine sheets. Hope this helps!

As always, informative, instructional and I’ve learned so much.
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback Ronne!

Thanks, love this process! I have been wondering how to us my oil pastels!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks Marianne, looks lovely. How do you finish the piece to protect it and sell?
Many thanks for your comments, Irene! I frame the pieces behind glass in a simple wood frame. Hope this helps!
@@mariannemitchellwholeart Thanks Marianne. Just one last question, do you spray a fixative or a varnish over the oil pastels?
