I was gonna go with a "I love Tom Hiddleston" comment but I couldn't help going for the "HE ATE THAT DOG!!!!" cuz... he ate that dog. No sane person would ignore that.
For a second there I was like "Aww, at least he still has his dog for a companion." then saw blood and thought he must have killed someone and tore a body part. And then I saw the paw. I was suddenly horrified ⊙_⊙
'Later, as he sat on his balcony eating the dog, Dr Robert Laing reflected on the unusual events that had taken place within this huge apartment building during the previous three months.' - J. G. Ballard
This line was in the movie in theaters, along with him actually eating the leg. I remember it vividly because it was such a memorable way to open a movie. The next day I looked it up online and there were tons of news articles talking about it in the film, as well as book discussion groups etc. When it came out on Netflix, it wasn't there. So I tried to look it up online. No matter what combination of things I tried searching for, and I tried for quite a while, I could find no evidence that the line had ever existed in either the book or the movie. I was just telling someone about this, and then lo: there you are quoting it in the comments.
PS: I wonder if they also removed or changed what Thatcher was saying on the radio at the end with the kid on the roof who seemed to be looking towards a brighter future. If not, I don't understand the erasure. I guess it could have been pressure from animal rights folks, but under the circumstances I'd more likely suspect communists. They ate zoo animals in Venezuela.
For you, a very good review here. Hope that it will help or encourage you to watch the film available in DVD now. www.theverge.com/2016/4/28/11518494/high-rise-movie-review-tom-hiddleston-jeremy-irons
DMarite Hmm. I was aware of the plot of the movie before(Everyone goes insane, he eats a dog, it's based on a book, etc) and I do have the DVD on a waiting list from my library to rent but after reading that review I have to say that I am very curious about it whereas before I was just looking for something new to watch that has Tom Hiddleston in it. lol Thanks for that link.
At first I thought he was helping the dog out from a dumpster, I thought that was cute, but then he ate it?is there a lack of food in this country!!!??
There's a lack of food in the high-rise. The people that live there are so disconnected from normal society that they feel that all they need is in the high rise and they have no need to go out. Even if that same high rise has fallen into complete chaos.
Caroline Lynch I suggest you not watch the movie, it's the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. I just watched it for Tom, the rest is boring and weird.
Kathi S I watched it and I didn't like it, well both didn't and did like it.. But I would have been gone as soon as the weird started happening.. Like good luck suckers, I'm out of here... I think the book is better, if you check out the part where Tom reads from it, you will understand the film much better, but ye not what I would usually watch..
My God, that man could read the ingredients off the back of a oatmeal box and I'd still be entranced.

@@dearmalaysia True 😂😂 but I mean, if you were desperate? I know I would if I was on the brink of starvation 😅
@@abispanner3957 Yes, I totally get that... but he still ate that dog.
@@dearmalaysia Hahaha 😂😂

Amusing thing was that I interpreted it as a hotdog on my first run through the book... was it intended?
I love that as an opening paragraph.
@@iancqz71 Uh... probably.

Just a another day in RUclips.
His voice!!
I was just gonna say that i wanna be that dog, but nevermind😂😂
Nooooooooooooooooo! Tom! What the hell! That dog is such a great dog.
You can vote your way into communism, but you will have to shoot your way out.
In Venezuela it was zoo animals.
Tom Hiddleston looks like a cross between Nic Cage and James Franco here.
The poor dog😢
Ben Wheatley should do a Marvel movie with Loki
Good idea
Only Tom Hiddleston can make rotting teeth look attractive.
WTFFFFFFF??????? IS DOOOOOOOG OMG OOOOH MYY GOOOOOD
Nooo not the dog!!! :( why is it always the dogs?! lol
Because they provide more meat than cats!
They even killed the dog in crimson peak
Cuz cats are smart
...there was a horse, you know? ...
@@sar.ahms3 And let's not forget John Wick's puppy, Daisy.
I almost don't want to watch this movie because of the dog eating lol. Call me weird or whatever but knowing that just reeeeally turns my stomach. lol
Well, you're not weird to me, I can understand but... Pity! because it's a metaphor and Laing is eating the metaphor.

I was disheartened that the entire movie wasn't as darkly comedic as this first scene. I laughed heartily for a few minutes after I saw the dog leg
Serenity113 You’re not alone.
woah! What the heck!!
Loki kills the dog for food. Poor canine 😭😭😭
I personally couldn't get into the film as much as the book which is a shame as it has a stella production / acting cast
HE ATE THE *DOG* ?????!!!!!!
The comments lol😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I wanted to see that, bat when i saw this...
Me acabo de dar cuenta que Tom se comió al pero D:
Was he about to eat his dog! Hahaa!

@@meagan4605 Which actually makes for great story-telling.
is tom the one doing the narration?because it sounds a bit different to the video where he reads the book
Yes, its Tom's voice
They might have lifted it from the audio book.
Did he kill that dog? 😠 he was a lovely dog.😠
It's a metaphor and he is eating the metaphor! I recommend you to watch the film.
Caroline Lynch I suggest you not watch the movie, it's the worst movie I've ever seen in my life. I just watched it for Tom, the rest is boring and weird.
Well, there's nothing like forming your own opinion.
What is the music in this scene?
According to Credits of the film, it's Brussels Philharmonic Orchestra.
+DMarite thank you! 😏👍
+DMarite do you know the actual song name?
It's "Brandenburg Concerto No 4" by Johann Sebastian Bach.
thank you very very very much ive been trying to find the name of this piece for sooooooooo long
My cousin would hate this cos he ate a dog and my cousin LOVES dogs
Much as I love Hiddleston, I cannot watch this because of the dog. Never will. Don’t care if it’s a metaphor.
Not sure if I want to see this movie or not.. Probably not, human decay happens around us every day, don't need to watch it on a screen..
Anne Nielsen I stopped watching halfway through because it was so disturbing and weird.

it's a disturbing but very unique movie !You should watch it, it will make you think and the music/actors/costumes/cinematography are awesome!
Does somebody know what breed of dog this is? White Siberian Husky? White swiss shepherd?
It was an Alsatian in the book.
poor dog 😂😂😂
