My God! Look at all that room in the engine bay! Soooo much room. Look at that vast empty area under the bed - and of course, the bed. I expect you'll probably keep it essentially empty to be able to use as a hauler. Some traction board & shovel mounts of course!

Painting metal that has rust actually only traps the moisture in between the metal and the paint, so you're accelerating the rusting process. The best option is to NOT wash under the vehicle(that would be introducing more moisture) and use a lanolin product once a year to coat everything. Don't even worry about taping anything off just brush the rust and send it

For the climate I’m in and this pretty light surface rust cleaning it up with some wire wheels and then using a rust inhibiting spray paint works pretty dang well. I’ve never had issues with this method personally, but in more rust prone areas I would absolutely do what you’re saying with annual waxy-treatments!

@@GrizzlyPath I concur - though I do like the addition of those lanolin products

Yeah, my two 21yo R50s look better than our 2018 T4R with regard to rust. I'm pretty disappointed in modern Toyota's rust inhibition. That truck has only seen one light winter with a little salt.

Oh man, do I need to do that to both of my R50's drums. Was that loctite on the lugs - you or the previous owner.
