Saw this come across my bench at Weatherby more times than I care to remember. As the lead customer warranty/service gunsmith I was tasked with being the Lab-Tech who would examine/record to determine whether the failure was material/workmanship related, or customer induced. One time a gentleman sent in his 338-378 Wby Accumark with barrel much like this one. Turned out a clear impression on a projectile was pressed into the mid-bore of the rifle. a squib handload, the owner simply racked another without checking as to why there was a wimpy recoil. the follow-on projectile opened the barrel like a pipe bomb.
Thank you. Good video. As a New Zealand Mountain Safety Council Firearms Instructor, I took people for their Firearms Licence Lecture and Test from the late 1990s to the early/mid 2010s. We had a sporterised P14 with an intact muzzle and a dramatic barrel split, propagated from approximately halfway along the length of the barrel. This rifle had been donated by Din Collings RIP (gunsmith, target shooter and Ballinger Belt winner) a friend and mentor to me. The owner of the rifle had been on a winter hunt with a group of other hunters, including Din, in the South Island, either looking for chamois or tahr. He saw an animal, fired a shot, the barrel split and … being a little guy, he was knocked back so violently into a snowbank that he was knocked unconscious. Din and the others went looking for him and discovered the situation. It was concluded that the muzzle was blocked with snow. The owner had buried the muzzle in snow prior to the accident and apparently failed to properly clear the barrel obstruction. Death via hypothermia could easily have occurred, due to the secondary effect of the shooter being rendered unconscious by his impact with the snowbank. P.S. For the benefit of those who might encounter surplus European ammunition, C.I.P. Proving Loads are supplied in plain blue packaging with technical information printed on the outside in clearly legible text. Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.
Thompson Center Contender is the gun I cut my teeth on. Steel Silhouettes at 500 yards at the Jerome Idaho Silhouette club. Happy to see Thompson Center is back, and in a big way. Thanks you for keeping the quality high and tight.
Is that the barrel profile the new barrels will come with? I saw haus of arms had a waitlist already for 26” barrels. Any chance 20” or 18” will eventually be made?
I have a t/c encore barrel 30/06 that I’ve given up on . At best it prints 2.5” groups at 100yrds . Muzzleloader barrel will shoot clover leaf groups at a 100yrds . Would have brought it back to t/c years ago but they were gone at that point . It’s been in the way back of the safe so long i forget I even had it until I heard they are coming back to NH . Probably should do something with it at some point. Glad to have t/c back here in NH
I've got 3 barrels like this, They all went back to S&W ,And they told me "There's nothing wrong with them,There in spec. And NOT A MATCH GRADE BARREL" Good Luck. I've replaced 2 of the 3 with SSK and MGM. And im waiting for Greg to tell they have threaded 300-Win Mag barrels available. And that will fix that problem. Unfortunately, Replacing it with a new and better barrel is likely your only answer.
Interesting video. I liked the explanation vs. just showing what would happen...which in general we all know. It would be interesting to see the effects when there's a muzzle brake and a suppressor.
Is there a plan to update breech plugs on the muzzleloader Line to use the nitro fires? I’ve handled the nitro fire muzzleloaders and my TC bone collector is a better muzzleloader even 17 years later, I’d love to be able to update that for cleaner powder and easier loading. Love your products, have harvested many deer over the years with them
I was wondering why this doesn’t seem to happen when someone shoots their ramrod? I’ve known several people do this and couldn’t find their ramrod but rifle was ok.
Mannn I been looking for, and ready to buy a 300 winmag, please tell me something here, when can we expect to see you selling again, and how much is the 300 winmag gonna cost???
I always worry when I lean my rifle against a tree, about a piece of bark falling down my barrel.. need to start putting tape over my muzzle 😊 and for those who might wonder: the gases in front of the bullet will push the tape away before it gets to the muzzle, so it isn't an obstruction ;)
Your website is trash. Would you like some professional IT services to fix it? Happy to help, in exchange for a new encore, if they’re ever going to be released.
How bout we quit making all the irrelevant videos and actually produce the guns? You still have a dead website and this is the content? When is TC going to actually produce something?
You really need to silence the irritating background music. That plays well on crappy TV fake reality shows, but here it just masks information. Please stop this student video crap.

Of all the false expectations my childhood years gave me, I never anticipated cartoons to show me the absolute truth of exploding rifle barrels.
I feel like they probably did a little research or had an unfortunate uncle.
Great safety information! Thank you! So looking forward to my next T/C

Still patiently waiting on the new ones.
Haus of arms has a waitlist already
This stuff is fantastic, I'm so proud of these TCA Offerings

The back round music really takes away for the great video. The rest is great
I remember T/C doing that with the Hawken muzzle loader using smokeless powder (Bullseye no less) to test the strength.
Greg making me wished I lived in NH, great video can’t wait to get a threaded short barrel
Thank you!! For that safety testing!! Hey I see new stuff has hit the market, a second thank you!!! All around good note! Woohoo!
Great video, shows the real danger of trying to clear a squib via the barrel. You can't, it's that simple.
That is a STRONG f***ing action!!
A full "Elmer Fudd" detonation!
It looks like cartoon , yes😂

@@Pyle81 how well do those barrels shoot?

Science, leadsled and a spare tire.

I accidentally fired my 209 X50 with powder bullet and the ram rod. Killed my shoulder but didn’t seem to damage the gun.
Thanks
My TC Venture still doesn’t fire properly. Sent email week before last and still haven’t heard back. Pending 4th trip back to the shop.
I was wondering why this doesn’t seem to happen when someone shoots their ramrod? I’ve known several people do this and couldn’t find their ramrod but rifle was ok.
ram rod isnt a tight enough fit to cause enough over pressure to ruptuure the barrel
Still waiting to purchase....
What’s the purpose of the grooves on the exterior of the prohunter barrel?
Saves a little weight without cutting down diameter.
Love the blog xden
When will the New product line be available. Will it include Black powder rifles
Ask previously, but would the thread protector on the end of the barrel made a difference? We would to like to see that test.
Just like in the Saturday morning cartoons.
Mannn

Bring back the tc omega please.
Cool video - thanks! Just curious, why no forearm during the test?
Wow....that was crazy scary stuff
How and when can i buy a encore?
I want custom 460 barrel length & twist too
👍👍
…shoulda had Kentucky Ballistics as a guest for this one…
What if you had a muzzle device on the end
probably would have been worse since the device would have have tried to prevent the barrel from splitting as it did.
That would be an test/demo with both a muzzle break and a suppressor.
Is this how the Super 10s and Super 14s are made?
Do you guys make guns? Or just videos?
Will your barrel be available in Canada soon
I absolutely detest the expression "fire in the hole"
Any chance these will return to market in my lifetime? Thanks in advance.
If you fire a semi auto shotgun to much the barrel will do the same thing. Happy 4th of July that was lol 😆
Great video but lose the background music 😩!
I reload my ammo
I quit buying factory ammo because I had over 40 miss fires
Sounds more like an operator issue, or a firing pin issue than your ammo lol
@loganjordan68 my handloading zero issues
I would definitely need a new pair of pants after that 💩
@BALISTICHIGH-SPEED I need to see this in super slow motion! Such a shame to ruin such a nice firearm!
Petrified banana.
That is why I put duct tape over the end of my Encore barrel while hunting and it is better to be safe then sorry.

Thank you for the demo danger.........
Old F-4 Shoe🇺🇸

...being a European, forgive me to not, generally, trust US regulations, I prefer our ones...for good reason...however, I really TRUST this guy...😀...
turn the stupid music off, I can hardly hear him
