Much better shooting, just don't stop your swing. I think Max is great, what a smart young chap! You picked up the line much better. That high bird on the last drive where your gun didn't stop was perfect! Thanks for sharing your efforts with us all.
Really good video to watch.I believe you have every shooter reviewing their own styles. On studying most of your SHOTCAM uploads I think there are two basic issues at fault. The first is that you have a tendency to start too far behind the right to left crossers and never seem to really overtake the bird. Secondly as the SHOTCAM shows you have a tendency to go onto a maintained lead type of shot and the gun becomes static. One thing is pretty clear and that is on the straight driven bird you are very competent and seem to be shooting a lot faster and with plenty of confidence. You seem to be mounting very tight onto these. I did not know that it took so long to upload these videos.Thank you for making the effort as it is a great help to other game shooters.
Fab video and well done for posting clips of some proper days with a good number of birds. Great to see someone bringing their boy into the sport properly. The Shotkam footage is as fascinating as it is informative. Perhaps Max and Rob could have have their own side-show in Season Two?
Just discovered these great videos and have already picked up some useful tips watching them this evening. You really have got the driven pheasant nailed and I think where I struggle is I stop the gun whereas you keep swinging through the bird. I also shoot crossers with maintained lead and struggle like hell with them. Can you elaborate more on the 'method' style of shooting them as the missing is getting rather frustrating now! I am on a clear up day tomorrow so hoping my hit rate improves before I buy a set of golf clubs... Thanks
I am no expert and still keep reverting to stopping the gun. The "method" is where you get onto the bird and push through ( More than you think is necessary in my case). It's the speed of the push that governs the lead you give. on longer range birds I try to use the method, I seem to have a greater success rate with it. In my case it's the line rather than the lead which is the main culprit of my misses, so be sure to focus on yours just in case. Use moreopen chokes as well, it really helps
Lovely video, great to see you and your son having a good time shooting. Thinking about going to the UK next year too also do some driven pheasant shooting, if you mayby know some good shoots you could always let me know. Keep up the video's.
Another great video, well done. Also, well shot. I know you said it went "to pot" on the third drive but I thought you shot well. It looked as if you were smoother in your swing and took more time on the birds.
Max seems to be a budding young accountant.Lovely to see a young chap figuring out the economics of game shooting. Just do not tell Mum that mathematics is his forte lol
Max with the quick maths😂😂 10 birds £35.... MAX LET ME CONCENTRATE ON THE SHOOTING PLEASE (as appose to the telling off I’m going to get when you tell your mum) haha class
made me LOL max is too clever for a young lad his comments made me p*** lol you an your lads comments an conversation made this video on top of excellent shooting great great upload well done all the best sv
How do you 'zero' the camera so you know that its pointing exactly where your shot is going to hit? or is it all in the design of the mount? Would just assume it was like a scope and would take some fine tuning to get it spot on. Amazing video as always.
You point the gun at a target 40 yards away and then a friend links to the ShotKam on your phone via wifi and adjusts the position of the red dot to aim at the same target
that's a bout it really. you pick the line behind the bird, pull over/away on the line and shoot in a single motion. Still requires some practice, but its quite deadly on long birds/clays
i shoot steel through a smoke choke, modified. It's in fact a lot tighter then the original full choke from my Fabarm. My first gun was a Baikal, also shot steel through 3/4 and full, never had a problem
Great video, hope you don't mind some constructive criticism but in almost every shot your gun starts above the line of the bird and you have to bring the gun down to the correct line which is wrong and will result in a high shot placement over the top of the target. The gun should always start from slightly below the line of the bird and come up to the correct line. Try it and you will probably double your kill rate and centre the birds in the pattern instead of catching them with the bottom of the pattern edge.. Most of your birds in the video are missed over the top which I reiterate is the classic result of starting above the line of the bird. Great to see you enjoying the day out with your son lovely little chap.
Could you elaborate on the £35 per bird and just the economics of shooting in general. Who do you pay and why? And how much would it actually cost if you each shot ten birds? Do you then sell on the ones you don't want for a nominal sum? Your son's comments got me wondering!
I wasn't exactly telling the truth in the video. For example, if there is a 200 bird day at say £35 a bird then the total cost is £7,000 divided equally by ten guns so £700 each. The birds are sold by the shoot and they keep any nominal sum they get themsleves
I would not recommend changing the style of shooting you have from drive to drive. It is personal opinion which is better out of maintained lead and 'the method'. I do not think either is more effective than the other. It is much better to stick to one and perfect it then to switch about from drive to drive. It is the same as shooting with different types of gun, you will shoot much better if you use one gun and get comfortable with it.
I personally don't think "the method" technique works on the higher more distance birds. Watching the shotkam and the ones you missed, you were predominantly behind the bird mate, (and if you're off-line then 9/10 you're above the line of the bird which will happen shooting a beretta as the stocks are high, I shoot a 692 myself.) also with the method technique I notice after the first barrel you stop your gun to allow the bird to catch up and then accelerate away again... personally (and you don't have to listen to me obviously) I'd not start behind the bird on the distance birds, but on the bird following it at the speed it's flying, tracking it, and like the method technique, pull away in front of the bird, and take your time don't snap at it with the acceleration, and if you miss with the first, keep swinging, don't stop swinging through the bird until you've dismounted the gun! Just a thought, been thinking this for several videos now! Really intrigued with the shotkam tho... might add it to my angles of shooting - cheers
I don't think you are going to get away with Not talking about costs. Max is too bright. We don't bother the ladies with such unimportant matters do we?
I love the panic in your voice when you release your Son will shortly be informing your Wife of his excellent maths skills for the cost of the day. 😂
Love the comment "do mum know you pay £35 per bird" made my day max
LOL yeah, he's a lot sharper than his age -- I love the 'Oh, but doesn't it means what THEY shoot is also spread across to you?" :-)
Max will make a fine accountant one day!
Nice vid, and what a good father/son talk. Love it.
Hi I love this video! Max looks to have a promising career in either loading or instructing! Great shooting too 👍🏻
Much better shooting, just don't stop your swing. I think Max is great, what a smart young chap! You picked up the line much better. That high bird on the last drive where your gun didn't stop was perfect! Thanks for sharing your efforts with us all.
Thanks, I've got 5-6 more days until the end of the season so hopefully by the last day I will have the shooting sorted
Super Video!!! I am curious to know if Max had a conversation with his Mum when he got home ...... ????

Great stuff as always and classic for a minute at 5.35...."Does Mum know?"
Brilliant.... best comment ever on a shoot video from your lovely boy..."does Mum know it costs £35 a bird!"... priceless
"Why did you miss that one" hahaha

Ah just seen the explanation of the method on the other comments!

“Now why did you miss that one Dad”😂😂
Great video once again and good loading from Max.
Lovely video, great to see you and your son having a good time shooting.

Keep up the video's.
Sure message me and I will gladly give some recommendations
Great video to the end of a great season I'm sure, Well done, what's said whilst shooting stops in shooting ☝
A good days shooting. It is good to see Max, the next generation, being introduced to oursport
Another great video, well done. Also, well shot. I know you said it went "to pot" on the third drive but I thought you shot well. It looked as if you were smoother in your swing and took more time on the birds.

Outstanding yet again
Rob's 2 foot retrieve was definitely he highlight for me. I do love that dog.

Oh very technical, sadly the large price tag means i wont be buying one any time soon. keep up the great shooting!
nice video, where did you get the shotkam from?
like to to try it out.
some nice birds
What exactly is "The Method"? From what I can gather, you mount on the bird and push quickly away before firing, or is there more to it?
that's a bout it really. you pick the line behind the bird, pull over/away on the line and shoot in a single motion. Still requires some practice, but its quite deadly on long birds/clays
Thanks for the edit, lovely video, good job from the micro-loader and the dog :-)
Did you have to tip the micro-loader as well? :-)
Yes he had two chocolate bars all to himself
Great video...
Nice shooting Michel Pollet, so 1/2 and 3/4 chokes and what shells?
Where you shooting steel on all drives?
No just on the first
What shells you prefer for duck and what for pheasant ? And with what chokes?
I think daddy might have to have some explaining to do to mummy..... great video though
how much was the shot kam
@The Four Ashes What chokes do you shoot
Normally 1/2 and 3/4
Isn't 3/4 a bit tight to shoot steel through? I though you should only shoot steel though 1/2 and wider?
i shoot steel through a smoke choke, modified. It's in fact a lot tighter then the original full choke from my Fabarm. My first gun was a Baikal, also shot steel through 3/4 and full, never had a problem
