Great info. Yea that cold spell was rough in the greater Philly area. We were single digits for the low three nights in a row.

@@northeasthardytropicals541 Yep. I'm ready for spring. Hopefully this is it for the cold this winter. Thanks!

Yes, I've noticed that on my palms as well. Some did go back to normal. The older fronds didn't as much

@@ward1compost I think it's variation as well. Even amongst windmill palms, some are just tougher than others.

@Palmguy24 Very true. Some have stiffer fronds than others. From how they acclimated to the area they were grown in

Glad not really much damage. The ones that have some damage should be ok ❤😊 palms 🌴 did a great job taking the cold

    Great topic for sure.
2 questions: Will rain hurt the palms as they recover and will you add H2O2 when things turn warmer and dryer ? The palms did look better after a few days. Thanks Palmguy24

@@RobOlgatree For those palms already showing signs of damage, specifically the spears, rain won't help. I will use hydrogen peroxide on those that have spear damage or spear pull later in the year when temps warm and it becomes obvious that I have a problem. Don't do like I did last year and prematurely trunk cut a palm only to see it was pushing out new spears. That should be a last resort to save the palm. They are surprisingly tough, even after spear pulls, etc... Thanks for watching.

I planted a small trachycarpus fortunei about 22-23 years ago and it has survived some sudden cold snaps and prolonged low temps over the years and is now overtopping the house, so, so far so good. I used to mulch it heavily in winter when it was small, but it is too big now (and I'm 22 or more years older!) to do that anymore. The worst time for it was about 10 years back we had below-freezing temps for over a week, and it almost completely defoliated. Every frond died except for a part of one. However, the spear remained healthy, and it grew well that growing season. I think most of your palms will survive if we get more normal temps from here on out. Best of luck with your palms, I think they are looking good!

@@ronaldmoose6876 Wow, that is some serious cold you had 10 years ago. They are extremely tough palms for sure. Mine are looking pretty good now that we've had a nice warmup. I think (and am hoping) that the worst of the cold is behind us. What has concerned me going into this winter was that the previous two winters practically defoliated my windmills and to have a 3rd straight may have really set them back or possibly killed them. Thanks for watching and giving me a boost of confidence.

@@Palmguy24 these type of palms are much more resilient than we make them out to be. Buuuuuut trust me, nothing sucks more than seeing a palm die because we didn’t take enough precautions.
