Whenever you think that the orchestra is the culmination of the world's greatest performers and high society artists, just remember that behind the scenes one of the greatest violinists in the world is also the world's biggest DORK
@@gimbapco1313 Ahh, I remember that too. Sorry, I don't watch those two. I just clicked because Ray Chen was on the thumbnail and title. (But I do know about those two, specially Lily. Just never watched her videos or streams.)
Thank you Ray for letting us have a glimpse of what it is to be a world class musician! All that in a humorous and not self indulgent way, keep being awesome mate.
I don't really comment on videos, and I can't believe that I would ever become one of those "I'm early!" commenters and I don't really want to become one of those people. I just want to say that I really enjoy these Backstage with Ray videos. You're really inspirational and also funny and human at the same time, showing the world how you deal with performance nervousness, which is always helpful. If you are really feeling sick, give yourself as much of a break as you can and practice, because I've been told that practicing makes you get better faster!
Watching this after a terribly demoralizing session at orchestra rehearsal. My third time going for orchestra practice and I feel like I'm the least experienced musician in the group and am feeling so stressed out.
6:12 Glow in the dark paint arrows pointing to the stage door because too many soloists could not find the door in the moment of panic in the dark before a performance.
I was at your concert!! Sooo cool to watch now what was going on while I was sitting up in the audience haha, the concert and your performance was inspiring and magical :D
Such a great post. As an orchestral player myself, it's nice to see someone show the combination of pre-show backstage jitters and prepping ("am I getting sick?"), but also the great feeling when it's gone well and you have moved people. AND..it's over! :) :)
I'm pretty sure Ray it's definitely introverted, he has a lot of traits that indicates that. But I loved the video, to know that Even a world class violinist like him gets so nervous before he gets in action, makes him even more like us
@@StarFireHarmony its quite amazing how accents can change over time, for example gillian anderson of x files has an interchangeable british and american accent
Am I the only one, that also feels that nervousness in the the last minute before his performance? I mean I am a musician too and I think every musician knows that specific feeling in your stomach. And that's exactly, what I felt watching this😂😂
I wonder if Aaron Rosand watches the silly antics of his former student. I’m old school, but I must admit to laughing at some of his clownish stuff. Chen has a monstrous talent. And I admire how he inspires so many with his ready smile and genuine friendliness. But I truly hope that he continues to push himself to reach his full potential so that he will be regarded as one of the great artists of his time and not just a talented entertainer.
Most people on internet don't realise how hard is to play as a soloist, but those who play and study violin really enjoy this kind of back stage preparation, actors and actresses do this all the time but classical musicians don't have this... I really enjoy seeing him as a normal person but we know that he is not just a pretty face 🙂🙂🙂
The fact that Ray Chen was laughing and all before going on the stage meanwhile me who has stage fright and has to control my breath + be quiet everytime 😭
I wonder if Ray got a chance to meet with cellist Dahae Kim from the LA Phil. I went to go see the LA Phil in concert recently and she caught my attention right away.
Hello, I have a question, I hope someone can answer this. Is the "meet and greet" part of the program organized by the organizer? Or is it something that the soloist decides to do if there's time? Or is it dependent on the size of audience? I love watching violin concertos, if there's a chance of meeting the soloist at the end of the concert, that would make the whole experience a thousand times better.

It's good to know that amazing people like Ray also do those kind of funny conversations with them selves to relieve the stress, 😂😂
