Just wondering what good 80# line is with a reel that has max drag of I think 25-30 pounds?

So the line doesn’t snap if you have to grab the reel, they can break 80 no problem

80 also hold up better once it gets abrasions from grinding on rocks. We use 80 as well.

You seldom stop a 10 pound grouper from rocking you up using 20# tackle.

In a 100-pound range you with a 20-pound range can get a 100-pound one if you know how to work it and you have enough line to run and work until it gets tired, and that's when you go into action, I have taken out huge carp with just 6 lb lines, and with strong streams of water, and I assure you that it is more exciting
