    Joel: "Leave me here. Get Tommy, he'll take you to the Fireflies."
    Ellie: "No."
    Ellie suffered loss and big ones, and she is for sure not ready to lose the most important person in her life right now.
    Another amazing episode with very little differences from the game itself which was mindblowing to watch.

      Did you notice the infected that peeled itself off the wall was wearing blue jeans? That's how you could tell the ones that would rip free of the wall and attack you, from the dead ones. Look for the blue jeans. ;)

    Yea I pretty much got the vibe when they zoomed in on them holding hands. Friends hold hands but the fact that they centered on it. And then the subtle things after that. The Carousel. And even one moment from Riley’s end. It was all so adorable. And then of course she dies. Ugh. Rip my heart out why don’t ya. Poor Ellie.

    Another great episode with a lot of character development for Ellie. Some obviously, some hidden. In any case, many questions are answered here directly and indirectly.
    Riley chose Mileena in Mortal Kombat II and Ellie played Baraka.
    Both were Lovers in the game.
    Baraka skewered Mileena with his blades as finisher. That was the metaphorical endgame. That's how Ellie killed Runner-Riley.
    I think it's clear she stabbed her.
    That's why Ellie asked Joel in episode 2 what it was like for him to kill an infected, knowing that they once were human. I think she needed a comparison to her own feelings because she couldn't classify them. That's why she tortured and stabbed the stalker in episode 3. She first wanted to see if he felt something and then the anger broke through in her because an infected bit her friend and killed him.
    Ellie kills Riley and because Riley didn't get in touch with Marlene the next day, she showed up at the mall and took Ellie with her.
    At least that's what I think. There are hardly any other options.
    Mortal Kombat was supposed to be the game in the game, but Naughty Dog didn't get permission. So they invented a game. Now HBO has rights to both games and that's how it became possible.
    The escalator can also be seen metaphorically. No matter how much Ellie runs against it (sometimes everything stays the same, sometimes there are highs), it still goes further and further downhill for her.
    Here it is shown no matter Fedra or Fireflys, for both you are just a number. They tell you what you want to hear and what benefits them, to achieve the respective goals. And there are always only 2 options to choose from. And both are manipulated into thinking there are not more. There is only one clearly good or one clearly bad choice. The officer at the beginning is not nice, he is manipulative. This can be seen in Riley who is allowed to supervise the sewage work. The Fireflys are no different. Everyone comes in quickly, they made you feel you belong to a family and you are important to them. In fact, Riley is parked alone in the mall with bombs. Lives that are stuck. Eat or die.
    The series in general is all about the number 2.
    Bill and Frank, Ellie and Joel, Ellie and Riley, Sam and Henry, Joel and Tommy, Kathleen and Daniel, two choices, Mortal Kombat 2, joke book volume 2, red or green.
    I actually thought Ashley Johnson (OG Ellie) would have her cameo here. Obviously, this was not the case, but it comes later in another memory. Most likely in the season finale.
    Next episode Troy Baker (OG Joel) will get his cameo.

    6:09 Having found a couple of corpses I can tell you it is not like in the movies/tv shows. You almost never have to check for a pulse. Your body [alive] gives off a lot of minute signs of life, even when asleep your eye lids flutter, its fast but your brain can understand it when looking at another person. You breathe and it is recognized by your brain. When you see a corpse that is not bloody dead like this guy, your brain instantly knows he is dead. He is pale, eyes open and no eye lid fluttering. I didn't have to get but 6 feet or so before I understood what I was looking at and called the proper authorities.

    I like round numbers so I wish it would go to 10 episodes for this season. since I didn't play the game I'll tell you that I enjoyed this one a lot but I like character development. Walking Dead got me used to multiple walkers so only one was a bit of a let down until I remembered they are both still young kids, and taking out more than one might be harder to do on screen realistically for Ellie since she's never done that.

    • @robtrinreact2825
      @robtrinreact2825  Год назад +1

      Yeah totally seeing how hard these are to take out it was indeed more realistic on tv to have just the one :)

    Another great episode, they did a good job of exploring Ellie's crush on Riley. Bella again did a sterling job at acting, even though she was wearing a mask, you knew exactly what she was thinking. I wasn't particularly convinced with Storm's portrayal of Riley though, maybe it's because there's such a contrast in acting styles. Troy Baker in the next episode, be cool to see him in the show.

      Ellie is tiny and even less trained atp and Riley has been a Fire Fly for about 3 weeks, they’re children who have let their guard down, are scared and don’t have unlimited ammo? It makes sense that they’d make mistakes in the heat of the moment

  • @gailseatonhumbert

    I am not a game player on this one. From that perspective the only criticism I have is we didn't get Ellie's being captured by Marlene which then turns into her ending up with Joel.
    It explains the elements to Ellie's background, motivations and actions that have been hidden until now.

    I usually love what they did with the show but I was let down by this episode. From the intense DLC chase from a hoard in Left Behind, all we got in the show was one infected? I'm sure they could've afforded 3 more actors to play the infected.

    • @Taewills
      @Taewills Год назад +2

      A hoard is unrealistic. If Joel and Tess, ( 2 fully grown adults), struggled with 2 Clickers and only one got out unscathed, then Ellie & Riley battling one is on par with the show. You’re not going to get a 1:1 fight scene with Ellie from game to the show- it only makes sense to add that level of difficulty in game play.
      Also, Fedra didn’t actually seal the mall off which indicates that they likely did a sweep to ensure no hoard existed in the QZ. It wouldn’t be a Quarantine Zone with a hoard inside it, would it?
      With Fireflies frequenting the place clearly there wouldn’t be as many as you’re suggesting either.

    • @mikecheeriot2650
      @mikecheeriot2650 Год назад +1

      @@Taewills my bad for using the incorrect terms... It was about 3 in the game. Riley is in the fireflies, they are trained to deal with infected and yet she couldn't even kill one. The game is also realistic and is even more intense. It's obvious they are on a budget and used most of the money on episode 5. They payoff for this episode was anti-clinatic and I'm usually the one to defend this show. The change for this episode wasn't as good. Only thing I like was Ellie's reaction to her bite marks. If they were going to take stuff out from the game then they could've easily shown Riley turning and Ellie having to end her in a heartbreaking way. That would have made the episode much better imo.

    • @Taewills
      @Taewills Год назад +2

      @@mikecheeriot2650 at this point Riley was a Firefly for 2-3 weeks. That’s not enough time to become the highly trained professional you’re expecting. Imagine if we trained police or military in that time and expected an efficiency what a mess that would be 😂
      Super unrealistic to expect a 16 year old kid with only a few weeks training to take on even one infected alone. If you think that’s enough time to make Riley a killing machine then your thought process isn’t rooted in realism to begin with.

    • @mikecheeriot2650
      @mikecheeriot2650 Год назад +1

      @@Taewills lmao at realism in a world full of infected lol get outta here. They were going to send her away and trust me, kids nowadays grow up fast. And btw she is 17, not 16. And don't underestimate human nature being put in that situation. I'm sure people would adapt at an early age growing up in that world. Again, they decided to put the budget in episode 5 and not this lame episode. There were many ways they could have made this episode better with one infected but they failed. They could have easily incorporated a chase scene with one infected but nah. Still, two infected would've been better than one.

    • @Taewills
      @Taewills Год назад +1

      @@mikecheeriot2650 yes….. cordyceps danger of infection is a real thing as well as climate change so this is def a future possibility- hate to break it to you. You also mentioned realism in one of your responses so…… are you recanting that now? You’re also talking about human nature and adaptation to this scenario which is also a contradiction- so which is it?
      Do you want it to be totally Fast n Furious unrealistic or closer to the realism they’re attempting to portray?

    I found this episode quite boring, actually. I didn't really empathize with the story at all. I really like the show, but 75% of this episode didn't inspire at all. Of course, it's good to see a character's backstory and we got to see Ellie's attack. And, a bit more info on FEDRA, which probably saved the world or kept it going and has tyrannical proclivities. But, did we have to extend the shopping mall, preoccupation with materialism, to say nothing of the love interest, to an hour?

  • @Martyntd5
    @Martyntd5 Год назад

    I was a bit indifferent to this episode for the exact reasons you mentioned Rob. It's a sweet story but it's tangential and we have only got 2 episodes left. They are going to have to compress and edit out a lot of stuff and I'm bummed about that. They really should have made 10 or 11 episodes in this season to make room for the side stories, rather than sacrifice main story for them.
    edited to add ...if we don't get the giraffes, I'm gonna riot! :)
