Hell Yeah Bro. I was a F-15 Crew Chief!! Love that girl. Tamiya Good Starter Kit. Looks better with Aftermarket Cans and a Resin Pit. And keeps the Cost down versus the GWH and the Others. Same with the Hasegawa.
Hey Hank - well done, I have the same kit in the stack but I just build 1/72 scale of the F14 first- different method of building , thanks for sharing cheers Liam
One hell of a plane to be your first, I love the f-15! Looking pretty amazing! I also have a question however, is there any website that you'd know of that has libraries/albums of photos of tanks and whatnot from WWII? sort of like those books you can buy that show tanks in detail, just digital lol.
I'm right now building my first modern jet and it's Su-25 in 1/48 and my thoughts are: 1) I never realized how big jets really are (especially that this is relatively small one) 2) fitting is much more important then in tanks and it's much harder to hide than in tanks/trucks models 3) It was also my first time using 3D printed decals parts and they looks great and they are totally worth it
My general kits builds are a bit more eclectic than yours normally are. I spent 22 years on active duty with the Air Force and so I have a connection to these modern jets. I do, however, have a pretty extensive collection of WW II aircraft and armor. These kits in 1/48 do tend to be a bit large. For this reason I have tended to go 1/72 for a lot of the modern aircraft. I am currently working on a collection of models of all the aircraft that I worked on while on active duty. Due to space constraints and the large number of aircraft types (16 in total) 1/72 seemed most practical. I have hit a roadblock on a couple (T-37 & T-38) in era appropriate configuration (try to find a T-37 of any type!) and I am saving the B-52G for last due to it's size. Keep up the great videos.
Glad you mentioned the size. A lot of us (like yourself) are used to a 1/48 fighter's general dimensions. It's easy to forget just how much larger a modern jet fighter is, which obviously the kit corresponds to. As you said, almost the size of a WWII bomber. Even a 1/72 F-15 is about as big as a 1/48 P-51. I also have limited space so it is something to consider before purchasing.
Very cool looking. Great job. Just getting back into models after some 50 year layoff. Gonna stay with ww2 but this is a fantastic looking piece of work. Enjoy your channel and videos. Is there a converson chart out there for tamiya vs vallejo paints?
As you mentioned, Tamiya's F-15C kit had top and bottom fuselage fitting problem, but other than that, the model process went flawlessly. Tamiya's kits are the best, and even its older models are still pretty good. I like Tamiya because its non-complexity yet detailed , ( not cluttered parts as other models from so many manufacturers) almost every parts fit like Lego blocks, easy to follow instructions, you don't need to guess from Tamiya's models.
Great job, I am also considering building my first modern jet model.....for some reason the fact that the painting will be all greys makes me nervous compared to the WW2 stuff I'm more uses to.
I wondered why the ANG markings...I worked with both the 102d and 104th (A-10 years) over the years...good call. Meanwhile, given your being impressed with the size....consider doing an F-4 in the same scale. I worked (briefly) on the F-4. It was the first jet that struck me as a no kidding war bird. Working under that bird with the engines running was an experience.
I've been considering trying my hand at one of the Takom attack helicopter kits. Like you I work with WW1 and WW2 subjects but would like to try my hand at modern stuff.
Hi Mate. I just bought myself 2 Cold War Jets, the first modern jets since my childhood. I got the Italeri F4 Phantom II Aces Kit and a Airfix MiG 17 Fresco Kit. I'll build them in Flight and try to figure out a wall mount... Thanks for your vids, cheers if you have a sip while reading this!
I'm working on that very kit right now! It's also my first modern jet aircraft model! I'm not a very experienced modeler, and it's been... intimidating. But overall a pretty solid kit. You did a great job with yours! Nice work, and thanks for sharing with us!
Good morning Hank, that was a great build, I believe that skme of the earlier Tamiya kits, are still well worth purchasing and and building, I would rather build this kit than the modern F-35, thanks for this video, bedt regards from Australia, Les
Very nice build Hank. I usually build jet aircraft in 1/72 scale due to their size, and WWII aircraft in 1/48. It's interesting as jet aircraft even in the smaller can be almost or as big as my larger scale aircraft. Thanks for the video. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
Hey Hank, great job on this eagle build! The real aircraft you showed looks like an MSIP II version of the F-15C which would be painted in slightly different colours and the nozzles would not have the turkey feathers (which looks very cool if you haven’t seen it before). Here’s hoping you make more of these modern fighters, the Tamiya f-14 is calling your name!
If you think an F-15 is big in 1/48th scale, try building an F-111 Ardvark. My collection consists of both old and modern armour and warplanes, and a few ships for good measure (USS Massachusetts coming up pretty soon). I find I can display them pretty well on a glass shelf, even though I can only fit about 4 planes on a 80 cm (31 inches in freedom units) shelf. Still, I stack the shelves and watch the dust settle on the models 😢
For your FIRST aircraft (a-c) model build...... Well DONE!!! This is a Nice kind of a-c as it is big, American, and it is ....... THE F-15 'Eagle', Good Choice. Yeah, the 'Tamiya' kit is a bit old, but it does go together nicely (for the most part). GREAT Choice on decals and EXCEPTIONAL History of 104 TFW!! NOW.... just get another 1/48, but this time..... THE F-16 'Falcon/Viper', to complement the 'Eagle'.
Got this kit for christmas last year. I will agree for being a 90's kit it holds up well. I had to sand down the top of my control panel though for the fuselage halves to fit in the front.
Very interesting video Hank! I myself have not really explored these modern subjects, with the most modern thing I've built probably being an Su-25. I do have some others though, like an F-4 and F-5, so it will be interesting to see how those come out. It is also great to see people venture out of their comfort zone, and try something different. The beauty of scale modelling I guess ;)
HANK, you’re a great model builder…. I think you could build just about anything !!!!!! We all have our Comfort Zones, in our model building I’ve never been interested in WW2 Russian aircraft, have 3 of them ( different types ) getting all my ducks in a row AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS arriving soon …. Glad you’re having FUN, and spreading your wings ( pardon the pun ) ……… F-15 ON ……. CHRIS 🇺🇸
Hank what's your technique for attaching external stores, fuel tanks and weapons on an aircraft - once the components are painted? What glue/adhesive is best for joining painted surfaces? Thank you!
I’m just finishing off my first jet kit as well an older Testor Top Gun F-14 in 1:72. I was wondering if it would be to small but it’s actually just right maybe not as detailed as a 1:48 but still not bad. It’s almost unbelievable when I place it beside the 1:72 B-17G how big these craft were. Definitely not my last jet kit looking forward to doing the F-15 and 18 in the same 1:72 scale. Yours look great, nice job. Cheers
Fine Molds' new 1/72 F-15 blows Tamiya's 1/48 out of the water in accuracy, detail and fit. Plus, it won't break the bank and most importantly, won't suck up all your shelf space. Don't let size get in the way of dipping a toe into more great modern subjects, especially now that you have a whole box full of gray paints waiting to get used.
This reminds me of when I was a young boy in the 80s-lonely Ohio farm boy most of the time. The only thing I can suggest in building a model is to be careful with skiving blades-I still have the slice and loss of feeling in my thumb to this day, 47 years later. My parents were not home, and I was alone in my room with blood all over the floor. I think they were more upset with the carpet being stained than my cut, as I remember.
Awesome! Thanks for the tips for next time - and thank you for your service 🍻
50 years of service and still unmatched

Great video
Nice work with this one Hank! Looks really good, totally different beast than a warbird but it would be a nice change.
I was army ADA 20mm Vulcan. First duty station was Bitburg AFB Germany. We had the F15c there.
I'm right now building my first modern jet and it's Su-25 in 1/48 and my thoughts are:

Living close to Westfield Mass it was cool to see this kit I am actually waiting on the F35 decals to come
These older tamiya are good value.
Picked up the Japanese version recently.
Very cool looking. Great job. Just getting back into models after some 50 year layoff. Gonna stay with ww2 but this is a fantastic looking piece of work.
Enjoy your channel and videos. Is there a converson chart out there for tamiya vs vallejo paints?
Nice result. A good example to anyone to step out of your comfort zone now and again
Turned out VERY nice!! Loved working on them in the USAF and depot level as civil service at Robins AFB. That's my Birdy!!!
As you mentioned, Tamiya's F-15C kit had top and bottom fuselage fitting problem, but other than that, the model process went flawlessly. More modern jets please. 1/72 is a nice jet scale.
Great job, I am also considering building my first modern jet model.....for some reason the fact that the painting will be all greys makes me nervous compared to the WW2 stuff I'm more uses to.
Looks good and honestly the Revell kit is really good also.
Great build

You should do next Tamiya F-14 tomcat 1 48 and and also do the A-10 warthog Tamiya
I've been considering trying my hand at one of the Takom attack helicopter kits. Like you I work with WW1 and WW2 subjects but would like to try my hand at modern stuff.
Nice kit and great build. Vietnam War aircraft are my favorite subject. The classic SEA camouflage is challenging but worth it. Thanks.
Nice! Maybe a Viper later? Tamiya have the 1/48 CJ that is tempting me 😅
Well done 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
P.s built that kit great job!
Good job on the F-15 I have one hanging from my ceiling like all my models
I built the Revell 1:48 C version came out excellent I liked it better than the Tamiya kit.
Nice job.
Nice job! Love the decals too!
Great job on a great fighter. F-15 is a beast.

Nice job, I'd like to get my hands on the new Tamiya F-35 in 1/48 but the price tag is a bit much for me at the moment.
Cool ✈

An 104FW bird as God intended. Ya ever go to KBAF?
Really nice build.I'm not a big jet fan but I really like that 1.Keep up the good work always enjoy watching your videos
Thats a great kit. Good work
The f15 is a very cool jet. Btw still waiting for you to Continue the Sherman identification series

Ahh interesting! Maybe that had to to with why I had so much trouble. Thanks for the tip!
@SpruesNBrews your bird turned out great though, thanks for sharing your experience!

We've gotta push ourselves a bit, right? Thanks for watching!!
Very nice! I currently have the Tamiya 1/48 F-15J kit sitting on my shelf, and this is some good inspiration to finally dust it off and get building!
Ah great! Give it a go!
HANK, you’re a great model builder….

Really nice build Hank!

In the video he mentions he used super glue.

Where can I find a rotating base that your model jet is on, and where can I find it online.
I’m a total beginner interested in building a PBY Catalina. Please could you recommend a kit?
Looks great. Thirty year old Tamiya kits are still better than many more modern offerings.
It looks great. But the F-15 was designed to counter the Mig 25 not the Mig 17 and 21
Fine Molds' new 1/72 F-15 blows Tamiya's 1/48 out of the water in accuracy, detail and fit. Plus, it won't break the bank and most importantly, won't suck up all your shelf space. Hey Hank, I was wondering what the microphone you used in the video is. If you know please let me know. Thank you!

i bult it in 1982
Would love to see your take on a WW1 biplane next. 👍
Have you build modern tanks?
Why would you choose the Tamiya kit.... The Hasagawa F15 would have been a much better choice
Just a comment for the algorithm
Cool Sir!
Thank you!!
wings do not fit
