Thanks Derek for showing us your instruments. He reminded me of my teacher in the late fifties James Joseph who had a Grafton saxophone. The last time I saw one was in the window of Toot Sweet a saxophone repair shop in Nottingham UK about 20 years ago however that doesn't exist. Anymore. I think Ornette Coleman played one. I like the way you had loyalty to a particular mouthpiece. I think there is too much swapping around these days. Find your mouthpiece and stick to it. - God bless - Bill - UK
If you haven't started already, start on alto. It's the easiest to learn, and a great stepping off point for Bari (which I play) because it's in the same key. And also Tenor and Soprano because they are of comparable size.
excellent collection, especially the way you play, I want a baritone but I have no money to buy it, if you know who I sponsor a thank you very much. God bless you.
Brilliant vid. Love that Buescher soprano and the Conn alto. My sadly departed tutor Bill Fanning played a Conn. Looked like it had be carved out of solid brass.
I been playing saxophone since I was in 6th grade to now as a freshman in high school. I started off playing the drums when I was in 4th grade if you are wondering why I didn’t start saxophone in my 4th grade band. I play the alto saxophone in marching band, and I play both the alto and tenor saxophone in concert band. I would love to get that bright jazzy sound on my saxophone because it sounds really cool! I hope that I will have a giant saxophone collection like this guy has. I only have three saxophones at my house. I tried playing the baritone saxophone in middle school, but it wasn’t fun because it was too heavy. The worst part was that my pinkie fingers couldn’t reach the pinkie keys. The alto saxophone is my favorite because it’s the easiest for me. It is easy for me to carry for marching band and it is not too heavy for me. I have these saxophones: Gold alto (professional) Teal alto (student) Gold tenor (intermediate)
true story...my dad (bass) knew a guy called max who played a grafton, and when he played he used to shake a lot...and their drummer called him 'spastic max with the plastic sax'!!

I really love his bari sound.
Nice collection its so beautiful I love it! Good job man.
This man gets a wonderful tone on his bari
Wow sir, thanks for making my decision difficult, now I'm conflicted on which sax to start with... all sound soo good!!! :(

I saw Derek playing last night, and wonderful he was too. I was particularly taken with his old curved soprano, but the others were all lovely too.
5 stars right when you picked up the Grafton and played on it.
=]
Saw you at Piza on the park,- narrowly missed Dance on the park. Thank you for curing my fear of the Sax! (long story!) You were fab x

The grafton sax is made for display purposes.
Like the Airfix plastic aeroplane kits?
the grafton sounds like its a bit hard to blow
I'm diggin the acrylic alto... lol
what would you guys recommend for a hard rock experimental jam band? i want to incorporate sax into my band
You are brilliant on all of them Derek, but really like the baritone sound, has to be my favourite.
look at him, he lifts his saxophones with just one hand
I know right?! I need both my hands to lift one
Not only those, you also need a manzello and a stritch for that authentic Rahsaan Roland Kirk vibe
And play them all at the same time!
he should invest in a couple sax stands haha the grafton should be in a diplay case anyway sound great!

sba is KING
The SBA is a Selmer made from 1946 to 1954
I love seeing you play the curved soprano. I call it the baby sax 🎷 😊
