    I’ve also wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse since high school, maybe even earlier than that since nursing was always my dream job. I’ve just always been super fascinated by all things birth so it seemed like the best option for me. I start nursing school in the fall but I’m hoping to get my CNM/WHNP after I get my BSN to become a midwife.
    I’m sure everyone would love to hear about how your new grad residency is going in a video. I haven’t seen many people really talk about that they’re like or what it was like transitioning to working as a staff nurse on your own.

      Side note: I just gave birth last year for the first time during quarantine and what really stood out to me were my L&D nurses more than any other staff. They truly made such a scary experience bearable. It only solidified my desire to do what I’ve always wanted to do!

    i just had my OB and Pediatric clinical rotations this past semester, and i would loooooove to be a L&D nurse! i would love if you did another video targeted to nursing students who already know that OB is what we want to do because like you said everyone loves to pressure us into med surg and I HATE MED SURG. I was so pressured to go into medsurg too and I absolutely don’t regret not doing that at all. medsurg is rough and it takes a special kind of person to really enjoy that. Don’t lose your love of nursing because other people are pressuring you into a specialty you don’t like. I’ll definitely try to think of a video that has tips for an OB minded nursing student 🥰 getting a job as a tech on an OB unit is my biggest piece of advice to get familiar with what goes on and the day to day of labor and delivery.

    Im 22 with a 1 year old. I was thinking of starting nursing school to become an L&D nurse in a year or 2. Im so nervous having been out of highschool for a few years but have found that i want more for my life than entry level low pay jobs. I started working in a hospital cafeteria a couple years ago and i love the hospital but would like to move on from the cafeteria. When i gave birth to my son the whole process of my appointments and birth and all of it was so cool. I love babies and i think it would be so cool to deliver and be a part of that experience. However im afraid of the time it’ll take away from my family particularly my son. And how to deal with my toddler and school and a job if we needed me to work. I do have a fiance but times are tough. Im debating on waiting until hes like 6-10 but that could mean i dont start school until im 30 and that seems like a lot of time wasted. There are online programs but i dont learn well in that environment i need physical lessons. Any advice would be appreciated ❤

    How long did it take you to get acclimated to L&D? I have worked for about a year on a surgical floor within a large hospital and have recently switched jobs to a rural L&D unit. I have always wanted to be in L&D and I've had a small interest in the OR so I'm super excited to be able to experience a ton of different OB things. My interviewers told me to expect to feel lost for the first 6 months as I reroute my brain from GI to OB. Hi Amy Being a L& D nurse or pediatric nurse has always been my dream because I love babies and kids so much. And I think I know what I want now L&D . So I have two questions for you. 1. Do you recommend I start with Lpn first just to give me an overview of what nursing is all about cos I have zero experience in science. 2. Do you think I can get a good job with an ASN instead of BSN or should I just go for the longer sure path? Thanks

    • @AmyBales

    • @AmyBales
      @AmyBales  3 года назад +1

      The RNC-OB is a certification you would get after you work in OB for a few years. You need to do a two or four year nursing degree and pass your NCLEX to become a registered nurse, and then as soon as you pass your NCLEX after you graduate, you can start working on a labor and delivery unit. I hope this helps! I don’t know many RNC-OB nurses if that makes sense. Maybe 2 total on our unit.
