Hi Carly, happy new year! Let the good times roll, let’s go. My favourite phrase is Let’s cross that bridge when we come to it. Believe it or not but it’s a music title too from a band named The Ward Brothers. Minor hit in the UK from 1986. I wonder do you remember that song? Nice song. Thanks for your great lessons!

    • @LearnEnglishwithCarly
      @LearnEnglishwithCarly  2 дня назад +1

@d.p.jvandeelen5390, I'm not familiar with that song, but I checked it out. Whenever I think of songs with the word 'bridge', I automatically think of Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water - I think you'll definitely be familiar with this one!
'Let the good times roll' is a great phrase using 'let', as well as 'let's go'. I thought lots of people would know the latter, so I didn't include it this time, but I already built up another list of phrases that use 'let' or 'let's' that I can use in future. We use 'let' so much in English! Carly

    Hi Carly,
Thank you for this fantastic lesson, it’s a great way to start the year! I’ve completed my homework and included seven sentences using the expressions with LET and LET’S, I had hear some of them but I wasn’t understanding them correctly:
    1. There’s been some tension in my family about holiday plans, but I’ve chosen to let sleeping dogs lie and avoid reopening the discussion.
    2. After the argument, we both decided to let bygones be bygones and move forward. In Spanish, we have a similar saying: “Borrón y cuenta nueva,” which means to start fresh and leave the past behind.
    3. I just started work again today after the holidays, so I’ve promised myself to let my hair down this weekend by spending time with friends. It’s always good to relax after a busy week.
    4. Sometimes, when I’m overwhelmed with tasks, I remind myself to let it be and take things one step at a time. It helps to stay calm and trust that everything will work out.
    5. Let me know when your next video comes out! I loved the idea you mentioned about focusing on communication instead of perfection, it’s something I always try to remind myself of when speaking English.
    6. Let’s not jump to conclusions about my English progress just yet, I’m working hard to improve, and your videos help so much!
    7. I’m glad to hear you’re doing better after breaking your foot. Let’s cross that bridge when we come to it regarding any future injuries, hopefully, you’ll stay safe and healthy from now on!
My favorite phrase from your lesson is let sleeping dogs lie. It’s so visual and makes perfect sense when you hear it! In Spanish, we have an equivalent expression: “No hay que remover el avispero, (o la mierda)” which means “Don’t stir the hornet’s nest.”
Also I like the expression let’s cut to the chase. It’s so direct and useful, I would like to tell my boss when he keeps repeating the same things.
Thank you for such engaging lessons, Carly! I hope your foot continues to heal well. I’ll be sharing your channel with my friends to help you reach your subscriber goal.
I have only used seven phrases from this lesson, It’s been a long day, let’s call it a night.
Take care and have a great week!, Manolo

    • @LearnEnglishwithCarly
      @LearnEnglishwithCarly  2 дня назад +1

Manolo, FANTASTIC work as always! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Perfect sentences with correct usage of these phrases with LET and LET'S.
In English, we can also say 'to shit stir' (⚠️Swearing!) and a person who shit stirs is a 'shit stirrer'! "John didn't need to tell the boss that. He's just a shit stirrer" I like the hornet's nest equivalent in Spanish too. We can also say 'to stir up trouble / to cause trouble' in English if we don't want to swear, and the person doing this is a 'troublemaker'.
I think it's a great idea to call it a night (so nicely added in to your sentence!), so I hope you sleep well - buenas noches. Carly

Good job Carly, always look on the bright side of life, let me know if you are right threre. It is a brilliant January day, isn't it?. Good. My favourite one , Please let's cut the chase and coming to work again, and let cut him some slack,he has a lot on his plate. Happy new Year. it seems there is a bit turmoil in Canada' s politician. yesterday morning Justin gotaway from it all.

Hi Manuel, and I hope that you're well? Yes, it was quite warm when I did this video a few days ago. Today is much foggier and cooler, and being early January, we still have most of winter to come 🥶
I LOVE that you combined 'let's cut him some slack' with 'he has a lot on his plate' - I remember doing a short video on this!
And you're correct, the PM, Justin Trudeau, resigned as party leader yesterday and Parliament is prorogued (cool word) until late March. It's a bit of a crazy situation, but likely the right decision. Canada needs a change in the leader, I think. Carly

A Happy New Year, Ms. Carly!(^-^)/
    1. I finish the work saying, 'Let's call it a day', and often let my hair down on Friday night.
    2. Let's see what the weather of the area is like when we think about the destination in summer vacation.
    3. He often let the cat out of the bag, so I can't believe him.
I wonder if the above sentences are correct. 😶
It is currently about 4℃ in Osaka. Is it colder in Vancouver?

Hi Manabu, and Happy New Year to you too! It's the same temperature here in Vancouver today as it was in Osaka. It's very foggy today and as we live near the coast, we can hear the fog horns alerting those who sail boats, but especially the tugboats and the shipping containers as Vancouver is a working port.
Great use of the 'let' sentences, Manabu! Well done! (In sentence 3, just add an -s to 'lets' as the next part of the sentence is in the present tense, so the first bit should be too as it is a habitual action. I hope that's ok and that it helps.)
      Have a great Wednesday! Carly

Hi Carly. First of all, thanks so much for making this amazing video. How's it going? I'm so happy you're doing well, Carly. Here's my example sentences. We don't need to worry about the deadlines right now. Let's cross that bridge when we come to it. It's better to let sleeping dogs lie not stir up old documents. He apologized, and I think it's time to let bygones be bygones. She told me to let it be and stop stressing over the little things. Hope you're staying happy, healthy, and safe, Carly. Hello, dear teacher. Didn't expect to see the first this year's video released so early, thank you😊 How are you doing now? How is your recovery process getting on?
Before watching I had known 8/15. But for now it's 15/15 thanks to you😊
Alright, let's try to come up with something:
    1) The audience was baffled with a lot of information, so he was asked to let cut to the chase.
    2) She felt her face turning as red as a beetroot as though she let the cat out of the bag.
    3) Sometimes letting cross that bridge when you come to it may turn into a missing deadlines so that some carefulness is required.
    4) Neither he nor she let agree to disagree, so the argue hadn't been resolved. Maybe after some time they'll let bygones be bygones (In my L1 'let bygones be bygones' can be literally translated to English like 'what has happened that has gone'. Something like that).
Waiting for the magnificent genie's remarks.
Thank you for your time, Carly. With best wishes and kindest regards ❤❤❤

Hello, Max, and I hope you are well? I'm doing so much better, thank you. I'm still on antibiotics but I can walk again - not too far, but so much better. I've started physio too, so that's definitely helping speed up the healing.
Great sentences! I liked your opening sentence 'let's try to...'! ⭐
If I may make a few corrections:
      1. We don't need to use 'let' in this sentence as we already have a verb 'asked' > 'he was asked to cut to the chase'. When we use this sentence by itself, then we can use 'let's' > let's cut to the chase. I hope that makes sense, but you don't have to use 'let's' with this sentence if you have another verb.
      2. '...as though she had let the cat out of the bag'. Just the word 'had' missing'.
      3. Again, you actually don't need to use 'let' here. I think I have confused you a bit, so I'll try to explain: think about the actual meaning of 'let' in English. 'Let' is used as a polite way of making or responding to a suggestion, giving an instruction, or introducing a remark. But, we can use most of these sentences without 'let' or 'let's': 'Sometimes, crossing a bridge when you come to it may mean missing deadlines, so carefulness is required.'
      4. 'Neither he or she had said 'let's agree to disagree'. (The rest of the sentence is great!)
Now I'm thinking that I should have made it clearer in the video that some of these phrases can be used as standalone, not always with 'let' or 'let's'. Apologies for any confusion.
      Carly 🧞‍♀️
