might be nostalgia bias as that was when i strarted playing but 2015-16 was just banger after banger. tahm kench, illaoi, jhin. aurelion sol, ekko. they are still all among my favorite champs

for me it's 2016-17, Ivern, Camille, Kled, Xayah and Rakan. might just be the nostalgia but it feels like the best releases for me and I'm playing since Ekko's release

@@eduardo9a1 Kled and ivern are well designed champions whos dialogue & themes fit their gameplay perfectly. The murder Hamster is quite possibly the most perfect theme & gameplay match in the game.

2014 to 2018 was peak league design.
some of the most innovative champions came out during this era, in terms of visual design, kit uniqueness and jerkoff potential.
If i had to highlight one year tho, definitely 2016, we had Jhin (aka one of the only fun ADCs besides Kalista, Ezreal, Samira and Draven), Asol (the single most unique battle mage), Taliah (one of the most unique control mages), Kled (peak), Ivern (peak) and Camille (peak).
This was also the time before league became consumercel slop material and was an actual functioning game.

Dude lissandra had a really cool kit for a solid half decade just post 2019 when the game really accelerated shes become a bit outdated. Liss is from a time where saving a bit of mana was an acceptable passive. Her E and ult were some of the more complex abilities in the game at the time, her q is a pretty unique skillshot and her w is a cool spell for a mage, she has some nice synergy in her kit between her all in teamfight potential and her great waveclear and poke just been powercrept by time. I remember her being a star in many Protatomonster highlights at the time also her login screen cinematic was baller

I'd say 2015 to 2018 were the best years for champs.
2019 brought on champs like Yuumi and Aphelios and things just sorta went down hill from there
Aph is cool though, there were a bunch of balancing nightmares but i think we're talking concept wise right?
Infinitely attaching AS, cycling weapons, hell, even K'sante swapping playstyles was conceptually really cool right? Balancing might've been horrible but they're still cool imo at least

Aphelios is alot like Gnar. Huge potencial but really had to make it work in a game with no communication. Gnar can solo win team fights with ult but you need to know how to use your rage bar and your team needs to pay attention to that to.
Aphelios can have some insane combos but you need to manage your bullets and you can't really communicate that to your team.
Both champs are really cool and EXTREMLY hard to pull off
2016-2018 before the fncking Aklia rework was the golden age! Even the shitty patch are nothing compared to today’s league.

My favorite has been ASol recently since ive been back. Ive played a bit under thirty games and am at 85 percent wins so far. But honestly I'm not sure how many of the people I'm playing are actually people. I love ASol though, its pretty rare I get the most kills but if the game goes past 20 minutes you generally win. The q is just amazing cc with Rylias
I started just before Warwick and Galio got reworked. So I think 2017? Yeah, getting Xayah and Rakan was cool. And Kayn, despite being annoying, is a really cool character
2015-2017 imo was the peak of champ design. Pyke marked the downfall.
Edit: Animosity has blinded me and I have learned that Pyke is 2019. Therefore, 2018 is free from ridicule.

2018 started with zoe and that champ made me quit for 7 months....
I know it's cause i'm past my prime in enjoyment of league, but i really do miss getting excited about champs. I literally haven't played a single game of the last 4 releases and vex in a norm, and it's not cause i don't own them, it just doesn't feel like they feel good for league, they feel like too much, or they feel weird and out of place for me. And ofc this is my opinion, and it's not right, or a truth, just how i feel, and i just wanna see a new champ, and think, damn, i wanna play that champ :/
And for reference, i've played every year, from 2010 all the way to now 2025

Yeah I wasn’t there back when zoe was menace but considering her kit she had to be over-tuned to be an issue.

Game went downhill hard after 2020
I’ve agreed with many of August’s takes, I’ve disagreed with some, but this one has to be the worst IMO. Just to name a few, Kai’sa, Seraphine, Senna, Samira, and Yone are some of the most overloaded champion kits and all coming out of 2018-2020. I don’t care how strong or weak they are currently tuned or how popular they are, their kits are overloaded. They make the formerly most hated champs look tame. And Yummi is an abomination and bad game design.
IMO if you removed every champ Kayn and on or Zoe and on in 2017, the game would be better. I’d miss some, but 2/3 of the champions and reworks since then have been gross

My face when kaisa is overloaded because she has w poke. That’s literally the only part of her that’s “unfair” unless her e is somehow overloaded in which case lmao. Old champions have bullshit too, you just like pretending like ye olde times were amazing and perfect.

She has a click to dmg ability with no aim, she has hybrid dmg, she has execution dmg on her passive, she has long range poke, she has invisibility, she has movement speed steroid, she has att speed steroid, she has a crazy long dash on her ult, she has a giant shield on her ult. All that on an adc making her have great burst and some of the best sustained dps. Few champions have that many different mechanics going for them. Many just have a few different mechanics like a dash, a shield, and cc or something similar. And some others in the past few years are also similarly overloaded. For adc’s especially, they usually have way less agency than Kai’sa as a trade-off for their crazy sustained dps to champs and objectives.
Not pretending “ye olde times” were perfect, there will always be good and bad. But Kai’sa is definitely one of the most overloaded champions in the game. She gets a pass because she’s “flashy and popular”

Yone is one of the most fun champs to play. Hes popular for a reason. And, he's balanced most of the time.

-Rell had to get completely reworked
-Seraphine switched roles to be primarily a Support
-Yone is one of the most hated champions in the game
Sett and Lilia are relatively inoffensive, and Samira was mostly fine after she got knocked down a couple dozen pegs (though she also still is considered extremely frustrating), but the other half of the characters that year have had their issues.
It definitely isn't a bad year, but compared to some others it's definitely not a GREAT year. There's a lot of years with better, just to name a few:
2023 | Milio, Naafiri, Briar, Hwei
2016 | Jhin, Aurelion Sol, Taliyah, Kled, Ivern, Camille
2015 | Bard, Ekko, Tahm Kench, Kindred, Illaoi
I mean, later on we had viego, belveth, gwen, smolder, ambessa and fucking K'SANTE. So yeah, in comparison these were great.

First off, he's a Twink, not a Femboy, I'd argue we don't even have a Femboy in league so far, unless you count canonical Eve, who can show up as anyone her prey desires
Second, do you also not play female champs? Why let something like that stand in the way of potential fun? I've found out that I personally find Hwei extremely enjoyable because after some ten to twenty games you feel as if you peaked through the matrix, not even thinking, but KNOWING this is the right spell combination for this specific situation, and the more you play him the deeper that understanding gets, and I find that one of the best feelings in league
durability patch was when the game went downhill
Literally nobody was happy about Lilia yone sylas or kaisa. This was not a great time for champs at all. Sett and Naafiri are the only amazing champs in that frame.
