    “Sounding the Halligan”

    When we are forcing entry in zero visibility, we want to be 100% sure that we know where the bar-man has the halligan.
    :
    One thing we can do is to sound the Halligan. Sounding the Halliganbis just a simple tap with the axe, just to ensure that we know where the adz is before we deliver a solid blow to the bar. In simple terms it’s just a “assurance” tap.
    :
    Members should always work together to understand the cadence so that as the entry team they always know what’s coming next. After each hit, the bar-man is adjusting the Halligan, and after each hit the axe-man is moving to find the Halligan. Sounding for it just assures that everyone knows where the tool is.
