    I have the L3 Elettrica which has a top speed of 43mph and similar 43 mile range , I use it for a 20 mile commute across Manchester where the highest road speed is 40mph , got to say I wouldn’t like to do the commute on the L1 . I’ve owned a 125 GTS and my last scooter was a PX 200 out of the three scooters I’ve owned the Elettrica is by far the best commuter scooter , it’s so cheap to run and very green especially if you use an electricity supplier with green tariffs , and remember in a number of years the only new scooters/bikes being sold will have batteries or fuel cells for propulsion !

    • @BikeMatters
      @BikeMatters  4 года назад +1

      Great to hear how you are getting on with the L3, yeah the L1 would soon be out of place on roads faster than 30.

    I’ve been renting electric scooters. They’ve really grown on me. Never thought I’d like them. I’ll wait for Vespa to make a GTS version.

    Thank you for the review. I am in the US, as such, there are very few street-legal electric scooters here.
    I had an electric scooter in China for a couple of years and liked it, other than some issues that do not seem to be as much as an issue with this Vespa. To confirm this is the 45 Km/h low-speed Elettrica, not the newer 70 Km/h version being sold in the US, it that correct?
    For me, right now, I am mentally debating between this and the Sonders Metacycle, which isn't out for reviews yet. For the Sonders, better performance (at least projected, seeing as no one actually has one yet). For the Vespa, scooter convenience and the likelihood of longer support.
    . . . of course, in ten or so years, the Vespa will still be stylish. The Sonders, who knows?
    . . . and as someone has mentioned, your streets look great.

      Metacycle is almost just 1/2 the price of a Vespa :D

      The 70kph one has 3.6Kw continuous output, also peaking at 4000, do difference is relatively marginal. I imagine tweaking the speed limiters allows you to reach those speeds easily.
      Brutally expensive, albeit it's pretty much the best model available for skirting the legal limits of scooters till you require a motorcycle license in my country from what I gather as the legal power limit is 4000w here for electric mopeds and max speed is 45kph.
      Of course, it doesn't mean the top speed of the vehicle needs to be 45kph, only that you aren't allowed to LEGALLY drive faster than that.

    I have an electric scooter of another brand and mine also has reverse mode, and I need it every time, actually. I couldn't do without it, I think.
    Also, reverse mode is such an easy thing to implement in an electric scooter, so there's no reason not to, really. You don't even need an extra button for it.

    How is the elettrica on hills.
    I have an electric scooter for going back and forward to work (8 miles each way) with a hill at both ends. At the steepest points it struggles to get above 23mph (2KW motor).

    • @BikeMatters
      @BikeMatters  4 года назад +1

      I was only on the L1 so can't comment for the L3. I think you'd have similar struggles on this and be around 25mph in all honesty on the L1.

    One thing that I feel is a little strange is that Vespa says the range is only 80 km at 45 km/h. Mine (an electric scooter of another brand) has a 1.68 kWh battery and its range is about 55 km/h (more in summer, less in winter). According to Vespa, the Elettrica has a 4.2 kWh battery. That should be enough for a range of about 135 km. Does it really consume so much more energy than mine (and many others)? I have found that most electric mopeds (45 km/h) has a range of about 30-35 km/kWh. 80/4.2≈19 km/kWh. That really bad.
    Mine still can go more than 55 km (almost 33 km/kWh) with one battery (I have two so I can use one while charging the other one at the same time) after about 5 years and more than 40000 km. Worst result so far has been 40 km in really bad weather, and that's still almost 24 km/kWh. I know the Vespa is heavier, but even with a passenger, the difference is hardly even noticeable, maybe 1 km or 2, so the weight difference alone can't be it.

  • @PerryMatt
    @PerryMatt 3 года назад +2

    How long does the battery last? How.many KM??

    • @JakeM218
      @JakeM218 3 года назад +2

      Elettrica 45 = 100km range in Eco, or 80km range at 45kmh.
      Elettrica 70 = 100km range at 45kmh, or 70km at 70kmh.
      The 70 has 4kw peak power for 30 seconds, dropping down to 3.6kw continuous.
      The 45 has 4kw peak for 30 seconds, dropping down to 3.5kw continuous.
      The 70 has a red front suspension spring, and also has combined braking. The 45 has completely individual brakes.

    It’s 15kg heavier than a 125cc primavera - but the weights are given as dry.
    Once you add oil and fuel into a 125cc, you’re pretty much at the same weight of the elettrica.

    Nice review mate. It s said, as for the charging the battery, it comes only with a 220v socket. Is there is a problem, if i use an adapter for type 2 standard to charge the scooter at an public charging point?

    • @JakeM218
      @JakeM218 3 года назад +2

      The Renault Twizy uses a 3 pin plug, and EVBitz have created a type 2 adaptor for that. I assume the same one will work with the Vespa

    The problem is that you need a garage. So it kills its market. Vespas are for city driving and who the hell has a garage in a UK city. Plus if you had this in London you'd get stabbed and have it taken from you. Maybe the UK ones come with a stab vest. This would be perfect for Italy. Warm weather, cafe society, everyone lives in city centres. Anyway, we can dream.

      @@BikeMatters I have had two GTS's over recent years. The one I have now is two years old. I have been at the game a long whole and out of all the scooters I have hired, tried or owned the GTS suits me best. Not just comfort and acceptable performance in standard trim but the feel and looks. I like the fit and finish of the Electric but apart form a short run to the local shops it would be pretty useless regarding my needs and I would think many others.

      But that’s up to 10 minutes of actively doing something - filling it up, queuing up, paying etc.
      With the elettrica, you spend 20 seconds plugging it in, and 20 seconds unplugging it - you don’t have to be physically waiting for those hours. You just leave it while shopping, or overnight.
      Also, it has no servicing requirements for the motor, so that saves a few hours per year!

    What a total disappointment the electric vehicles are. Compared to a 50cc petrol this thing is way worse. 50miles range is what you get with probably 1-2 littre of petrol, with a 7l gas tank you can get over 200miles range. How much dirtier could it be? Also with the 50cc you have a lighter bike and its performance will remain unchanged for years to come. Then a cheap engine rebuild and another years of careless driving. Leave you electric scooter out in the winter and boom you battery is dead again... It is just sad how petrol is being pushed away by marketing and eco bullshit. If you want to be ecological start from the corporations first, not by the cheapest form of personal transport... Batteries has still long way to go before electric vehicles will actually make sense.
